He's been like that for a while, he talks about his career as if he was fortunate to be there and doesn't give himself enough credit. Sure he wasn't a generational talent but he was a solid RB for many years in most aspects of the game, defensively and providing width going forward. It happens to a lesser extent but I think Roy Keane downplays himself quite a bit too, I've heard him talk down how he was as a player too.
It's not the legal threat he should be worried about. Marinakis is indeed a mobster, and he's heavily implicated in the Noor1 case.
It's his thing now to endear himself to the public. Guy was first choice United and England RB for years but acts like he was Alex Buttner.
Hard to say it's not worked though, people saying years ago he had political aspirations and he is everywhere now and gets access to all players for interviews - the one today with Gordon is decent FYI - and is broadening out from just football specific entertainment.

It's commentating on stuff in the football world. Same as if pundits call for boards to sack managers or fine players or whatever.
I think we expect objectivity. They have been pushing this agenda all season and Sky get to have referees on their show

Gary was better than Phil which was why he was an undisputed starter for one of the best teams ever. If he was as rubbish as he pretends he was, he'd have been out with Phil and neither of them would've got near an Everton.

When have you ever seen Gary or another pundit call for a manager to be sacked? It never happens.
But more than that - why is Gary telling Mark Clattenberg, who's employed by Nottingham Forest, to resign? Did he tell Liverpool staff to resign after they wrote to PGMOL after their Spurs game? Did he tell Arteta's lot to resign when they complained about their Newcastle loss and VAR? If Nottingham Forest are embarrassing themselves after their own VAR incident then let them. I don't understand why Gary needs to over-dramatise it, insert himself into the story by calling for resignations. He's quite insufferable.

He risks losing credibility amongst other referees by standing by the Forest statement and questioning the integrity of officials and insinuate cheating.

I used to think Neville was a decent pundit when he first started but ( like many ) he's turned into a right Sky shill these days.
I think he can still be good on things like the Overlap but I'm not sure why people expect anything but drama when it's a match event. That's the whole point of what Sky wants in the pre-match and post-match chats.
No that isn’t what he said. He said the manager should say it on Sky and pay the fine. The club shouldn’t go and say it on social media and take action, he also was referring to Arsenal and Pool.
Also with regards to insinuating cheating we already had this conversation before. Forest are within their rights to call out conflicts of interests especially ones they referred to PGMOL before the game. If people interpret that as insinuating cheating thats up to them. There are conflict of interest rules for a reason

Who knows what Clattenberg would, should or could do. The point is that Neville is giving his opinion on something in the world football which was my point in the first place.

There's a huge difference between a player is cheating to help their own side and a ref cheating to help a side.

By all means give an opinion. Calling them a mafia, saying someone should resign because the club is unhappy with officiating is just dumb (from Gary). Like I said, he has a habit of overdramatising pretty much everything these days, and it's why so many people find him insufferable.

Well they were criticising the official operating it and insinuating that they've cheated in their initial statement, not the system. In turn, I think the opinion Neville gave for him to resign and his reasonings for that is a fair opinion.

Mr. G. Neville has form. He once went on a rant about Boris Johnson saying it was 'OK to boo England players'. What he actually said was ' He (Boris) fully respects the right for people to peacefully protest and make their feelings known'. Neville also said Boris had supported players not taking the knee. Wrong again, the statement said 'He (Boris) was more focused on action than gestures'. Does anyone still take the knee? I am not a fan of either of these people especially Boris but Neville twisted the words to suit his own political agenga. His mouth will get him into trouble sooner rather than later. He should keep his Political opinions to himself or choose a different platform to spout them. SKY are happy with it, but they weren't happy with Le Tissier and his views on the Covid vaccine.
