GB News; UK Right Leaning 24 Hour 'News' Channel

I'm confident this is going to go down like a lead balloon.

They're so behind the times, expected really due to their chosen presenters and journalists, I half expect them to do a segment on why Videogames/ violent films ruin society.

If their goal was to make a news channel that was lacking a lot of the 'woke' bullshit that's taken over other channels then they would have been onto something, but instead they've chosen to make their whole identity about being 'anti woke' which is very cringe and will only appeal to a small fraction of the audience of the former. I just can't get past Dan fcuking Wootton he is the canary in the coalmine. I can only imagine that Andrew Neil is so out of touch that he just assumes that Wootton is a guy with his finger on the pulse of pop culture, or he sees potential and value in transforming him from the Poundland Piers Morgan to the Asda Piers Morgan.

I hope this spectacularly backfires and rather than stoking the “culture war” instead makes people aware of how utterly absurd it all is. I very much doubt it though.
No, of course not. It'll continue to embed and perpetuate the concept.

Their job is to set the political agenda. Reach and talking points rather than viewership. They will absolutely succeed in this as they and their ilk have for the last 20 years and will have done so even if the channel folds once the wealthy interested parties funding it pull out.
It doesn't mater if it's absolute nonsense. This tactic works: see Brexit.

I watched about 5 minutes of Dan Wooton last night. He had Rod fecking Liddle on. What a car crash. Gets me angry they can espouse such nonsense which will be lapped up by so many.

I'm watching it now. Del Piero and Halligan (?) never heard of them. It doesn't seem especially controversial talking about the Covid situation. Thought the line would be British libertarians crapping the bed about 'freedom day' being cancelled but it's a bit more balanced than that.

So they are basically doing a series that is the TV equivalent of right wing arseholes on YouTube talking about blue haired feminists?

Their target audience will be those who despise what they put out, you can see it in this thread already. As I said before...

A few people watching a few minutes or hours of something in this thread is hardly even an indication that their target audience is "those who despise what they put out". Their target audience is people who buy into the culture war, woke PC gone mad narrative, and the vast majority of hours watched will be those.

It's the same as Fox News, OANN, Newsmax, etc.

I won't be surprised if there's a uk version of qanon in about a decades time. Those people already exist, they'll be properly groomed and fed a steady diet of lies.

This won't end well.
It won't take long. It is already happening. This will be another catalyst to our idiocracy.

the target audience isn’t people who despise it, it’s the 50+ Tory/Brexit lot

doesn’t hurt if they get a backlash from the left, of course

Most of the column inches and noise around the channel will be around those who are against it, rather than those for it. Like with most things, it's best set to ignore. Every time something is linked, given page views, or TV viewers it gives the metrics they want and continues their noise further.

I'm pretty sure they're targeting those who would be triggered most by the terminology they used. Those who are against it, are the ones who will be fueling the fire. It's like click bait in a way, the more reaction they get, the bigger they become by proxy.

Edit: Laurence Fox is a prime example of the above.

Don't object, don't present a counter view, watch the agenda be set.

fair reply.

Let’s see what happens. I wouldn’t expect it to last. Any news channel is going to struggle - I don’t think there’s any demand for it - and this is aimed at only a section of that market. I’m certain it will fail quickly. Be gone in 12 months.

Fortunately it’s only Muslim nonces from Rotherham that get these people frothing at the mouth. If they’re white and from one of the Home Counties, they’re right on.

Gloria De Piero was on GMTV as their political editor for years and was Labour MP for about 5 I think so her signing surprised me as can't remember whether she stood down under Corbyn or Starmer.

Always detested Dan Wooton, his fake tears over Caroline Flack's death and loads of other comments he's come out with other the years.

Haven't retuned my TV to pick this up yet and won't be in a hurry to do it.

My Dad will no doubt fill me in on how brilliant it apparently is as he's an avid Russia Today watcher. :wenger: :nono:

I do remember De Piero from when she was a Labour MP vaguely now you’ve said that. I’m not familiar with Wootton fortunately. I was surprised Kirsty Gallagher went on there but then I’d never really considered her political leanings.

Just threw it on for a minute or so.

Anyone else think it just looks shoddy? There's something about the graphics or the way its presented that just doesn't seem to have the typical 'official looking' gloss of the established news channels.

Also.. Woke Watch, jesus fecking christ.

The whole channel and its production values are just cringe.

So far a bit a mare at least technically. I am looking forward to my good friend Hugh Janus getting a callout as well

Day 1: Wasn't it lovely when Mrs Thatcher gave the Argies what for?
Day 2: Epstein did nothing wrong.

They're going along at a pretty good pace to be fair.

How did the channel manage to appear so quickly on Freeview, I thought there was a limited capacity as to how many channels could be aired on the multiplexes?

Well by definition, and to be pedantic, it isn't click bait as its broadcast media.

Oh alright then... but isn't it also available online, doesn't that count for click bait...? clearly I don't really understand the term, I thought anything set up to prompt a reaction was 'click bait'...but I bow to your great knowledge ;)
