Thank you, but you've been quite clear that the reason it was announced now, wasn't to do with the general election but rather because they were waiting for the general election to be called.
It is amazing how the central party always does this, election after election, regardless of whether it was expected or not.
Irrespective of the election there has been a general policy from Labour to spin out all their disciplinary procedures knowing that the longer they went on the more people concerned, and their sympathisers, would be dumb enough to resign. For the membership as a whole it seems to have worked, a lot have resigned in the last three years. Dirty tricks of course, I'm surprised so many caved in so easily, I wouldn't have predicted it.
Its pretty horrific if you don't have some support around you. Some of the letters I have seen are very threatening, they often talk about legal action if you discuss it with others, for instance.
For those who have been members for years, it often takes away their main social interactions too, so a traumatising process. I can understand why so many just want it all to end and walk away.

I'm a bit confused to be honest. I think you can think what you want to about what Labour need to do to win without suddenly saying negative things that seem to contradict what I remember you saying About shaheen a few days ago (correct me if I'm wrong).
What exactly is Shaheen supposed to have done for the party? And what has tatler done in comparison?
Hasn't she been an actual living and campaigning member for the constituency since the last election? How does she feel entitled to an easy seat, it's literally the seat she's spent her entire life in?
I don't think her background precludes her being significantly pro Israel either. As far as I'm aware, she's Indian African. It's not like Hindus and Muslim South Asians tend to have a uniform view on this topic now.
Yeah, I get it now, I just didn't see it coming. An old employer used exactly that, spinning out disciplines forever in the hope people would give in and walk away, yet not batting an eyelid if they had to pay out in the end, the money was nothing to them. Absolutely destroying for the individuals concerned. Starmer's aware of it all of course, I reckon he's a lot tougher and smarter than people give him credit for, although whether one thinks that's a good or a bad thing depends where one is coming from I suppose.
Are we feck. So far the only things Starmer has committed to are the bread and butter Labour policies of take from the middle and give to the poor whilst leaving the rich to do whatever the feck they like.

I didn't know who Shaheen was until the day of the election when I signed up to Labour to see who I could canvas for locally for greatest effect. Her bio looked really good and when I met her on the Thursday she seemed like a decent candidate. But the more I've seen of her lately the less I think of her. Now that's not to say I wouldn't have worked hard for her had none of this happened because I'm quite able to consider the greater good over my own concerns. But now that she's out and Tatler is in I can't do anything else but support the Labour candidate. The main goal is to oust IDS, not a pity party for Shaheen and an ego-driven independent run for the seat to ultimately waste the effort to have an ineffective MP should she win.
This one had a 12 point lead for Labour last week so the trend seems pretty clear.

It would have to be quite an amazing performance from him. I don't think he's got it in him as a speaker to be honest. It's not like Starmer is Mr Charisma, but he doesn't need to be at this point. Farage standing and these polls have to be a huge personal blow for Sunak. What was he thinking with calling the GE now?
Either he will defect or he will take over whoever is the new right wing party if the Tories die out.
In terms of the GE, I can imagine it was some combination of:
- letters of no confidence going in
- being briefed that the Rwanda flights won't get off the ground for a while
- probably briefed that the small boat crossings will increase a lot in the Summer
- economic news meaning there would be no room for the floated tax cuts in the Autumn

There is no chance that enough people would ever vote a Farage led Tory party into government.
I can see that happening, but if it does the Tories will split and I can't see how they could ever get more than 20% of the vote. A Farage led Tory party would be UKIP sized.

Talk of the Tories dying out is just so far fetched. They’re not some whimsical idealist party. They’re an institution and they are pragmatic. They exist to make a select few, including themselves, very rich and they know how to win elections.
The next 5 years will be the Tory party reading the room, figuring out what angle to play for the next election and they will be back with a majority at the first time of asking.

I don't think so, the swing is going to be too big, absent some total catastrophe, the depth of Tory unpopularity through the demographics is just too big to turn that fast IMO.
Plus Labour are savvy enough to deny the Tories the political space they would need to rebuild - Blair showed how to do that. Labour gets to set the agenda now, not the Tories, and that will count.
Absent some disaster, labour ought to be planning for 2 terms.
They’re quite clueless at this point, grossly out of touch, and plagued by infighting. Not that the other parties are much better, but their hard right has pulled them under.
This is true 99% of the time in history, but there is that 1% where established political parties get replaced. Of course, if this is that 1% then that means Reform UK is going to take its place, so that wouldn't necessarily be... great.
Part of me would love to see it too, but another part of me worries about the normalisation of very extreme right politics that you would get without some kind of moderating one nation element pulling them back to the centre.
I can see farage Tories being more like trump republicans than Cameron conservatives, you can see the germs of it already. I think while it would keep the Tories permanently in opposition it would be poison.

On a different note, if Farage does not win somehow then it would be the final nail in the coffin for him I feel. It would be the best way to cap election night if it happens but the Cnut will end up winning.
