Giggs

He's quite simply a United legend. We should appreciate him more now while he's still around, I don't think enough United fans do. There won't be many more players like him in the modern game. He's right up there with the likes of Best, Charlton, Law, Robson, Cantona and Keane.

Edit to add Scholes to that list!

His pass to Ronaldo was sick. I was thinking, WTF, shoot, you have a chance, all of a sudden he passes to what looks like the WBA defence and then bang, a goal.

Legend.

Fantastic post.
One of the greatest United players ever and the club, let alone the team, will be changed forever when he retires (much like Fergie).

Brilliant tonight, and lately, and just in general.

I'm now going to go and eat my own feces for giving him stick over his poor performances last season.

Apologies Ryan.

Thing about Giggs this season is that he either is tremendous or just has a shocker. Lately it's been more of the former.

How lately?

Last season that was true, this season he's had very, very few and it's definitely the other way around so far.

The definitive United legend.

He's improving every game he plays in midfield.

most natural footballer player i've ever seen. at 17 giggs was a genius and he's been ever since. not surprising he dominates central midfield either and his added weapon of being able to run with the ball from midfield as well as being one of our three best precision tacklers of the ball make him a midfield weapon unlike any that we have. add to the fact that he's as natural of an athlete as they come, pretty much sums up his status as the god footballer. not to take anything away from scholes or any of our other lads but giggs is/was at a different level always. he was doing the biz in the old first division when all the other fledglings were cleaning boots. to me giggs personifies manchester united. the attitude, the class, the right mix of mercurial flair and intelligence, the showmanship, the desire, the success, the longevity, the ability to adapt to the requirements of the cause....when i think of all the characteristics that i love about united, giggs happens to embody all of them.

legend.

that

a dribbling central midfielder is very hard to handle.

got excellent close control and terrific vision.

especially in the premier league because the British players are not used to them. Any player with decent dribbling ability ends up on the wing.

SAF said he'll win it.

When'd he say this?

Me and you were one of Giggs' very few advocates on here in the summer Ripper, oh and sincher, glad he's proving us right in this case with typical class.

SAF said it would be great to see Giggs win the pfa award in a recent interview.

i'd love for that to happen. mind you i think giggs has always deserved at least a pfa player of the year, ballon d'or, fifa world player of the year, plus every other award under the sun.

i know teddy won the pfa player of the year when he was 31 in his last season with us but i just dn't think giggs wil play enough games for us in the league to do so. esp when europe starts up, fergie will def rest giggs from the prem for europe IMO.

I feel exactly as you do.

I said the same thing on one of the threads here. Giggs has done so much at United that I'm at the point that I don't really care whether Giggs scored 3 OG at Old Trafford in the last 3 minute, I still wont say a bad word about him.

Appreciate him while you can, because when his time is really up, you'll realise how good he's been.

We are not worthy!

i'll admit it - i was a massive critic of Giggs over the last few seasons, felt he had lost 'it' and was a constant source of frustration - all flicks to no one and poor passes. Even this season i was always a bit annoyed seeing his name on the team sheet (yes, he is a United legend) though i think i was biased against him this season as I actually think he had been doing ok.

When the team sheet came out for the chelsea game I went freaking spastic on it - fletcher AND Giggs in midfield, no Carrick - I thought Fergie had lost it and that we were about to hand the title to Liverpool/Chelsea.

He wound back the years that day and put in a masterfull performance, and he has been freaking awesome since. Great running in midfield, great position, great reading of the game and great passing. He has simply been brilliant and a massive reason we have been digging out the results.

Proven me wrong, massively.

This also is how i have felt, im sorry Mr giggs for the way i wrote you off.

He has grown and grown in this position, he has learnt how to play there and is excelling because of his experience, intelligence and ability.

Last season i thought he was really bad compared to seasons before, i thought it was coming to an end, turns out giggs was adjusting to a new position and centre midfield suits him to a T now

It's also his desire to keep improving as a player. I remember Fergie used to switch him onto the right a lot, especially at the start of his career. Then he improved his tackling. Then his crossing. He's the complete player now, just phenomenal. Just love Giggsy, and fear it's his last season.

That is a great interview. I love how there's no mention of all the stuff over the summer, as if it never happened.

United have handled that brilliantly - have never mentioned it, neither has the player, and it's almost been forgotten about. It's remarkable how little it's talked about on here even - another sign of how well they've handled it imo.

Amazing goal tonight.

Manchester United to offer Ryan Giggs new contract

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed midfielder Ryan Giggs will be offered a new contract.

The 38-year-old, who has scored in every Premier League season, has been on a rolling one-year deal at Old Trafford since the age of 30.

Ferguson said: "We know he can't go on forever, but he can play for another year."

Found this quote while looking at a Gary Speed thread recently and loved the irony:

I'd be willing to bet you that Giggsy won't be playing prem football at 37

That's from August 2007, and I'm sure most would have said the same at the time so no disrespect to Franco.

Still going strong at 38 - witness Fergie eulogising his performance in the 5-0 against Fulham - and about to sign on for another year... I wouldn't bet against him still being around at 40...

Still can go past men like they are not there despite his age. That run which involved him megging jones, was simply sublime - giggsy walzting through the gap between two players, megging jones effortlessly...took a fourth man to stop him!
