Group D (Argentina, Croatia, Iceland, Nigeria)

Yeah, it’s a far cry from what you produced against Argentina. That Nigeria could easily come 2nd in the group.

Yeah we are kind of shite but I've watched Croatia too and was not impressed so we should still stand a chance

Unless the players have some magic that they aren't showing, can't see us winning any game.

What's annoying is that none of our opponents are really that good, if we go out it'll because we're the worst of a bad bunch

Can't even say Rohr has them organised. Looking bleak, I'll be happy if we don't finish last.

Yea, i saw Mamihno got guilty verdict but didnt open article, dunno how much, hope its not some crap joke of a number.

Wait why sad face
No mate wrong smiley, I'm happy, thanks. :) Bastard escape to Bosnia of course but at least hes not here the cnut. There are 2 more indictments waiting for him which are even worse than this one. He got 6 years which is all right. It's a beginning. I would throw him in a solitary for 50 years but that's just me. It's just a first step though and his lawyers will appeal. Modric and Lovren have indictments for perjury too. The cnuts.

Hope they get sentenced too. Fu.k them. Of course there are lot of people here who think they did nothing wrong or are on like - lets stick together,it's a world cup tralala.

Fu.k them too.

Ugh. I'm pissed off right now, I'm going on a run to relax.

Do it .

Dunno about them but its weird when it comes to Mamic, there so some myth about a guy outside Croatia, i remember (before all this came on surface) Partizan/Red Star fans tho he is a wizard when they saw amounts Dinamo got for their players but thats probably because their owners managed to some truly magical stuff. Like club is in 1 mil euros in debt (for example), 1h later they sell Zigic for some bullshit low price like 5 and 15 min after transfer, club`s debt is raised to 6 mil. and nobody raised a single question

Watching our(Nigeria) last two friendlies have really dampened my enthusiasm. We look shite
Friendlies don't mean much. The more worrying thing is that you've played 5 in a row without a win.

What's annoying is that none of our opponents are really that good, if we go out it'll because we're the worst of a bad bunch
Well that's just absolute rubbish.

Unlike the other Nigerian fans here I have hope and I think that we will get it right for the World Cup.

We had a bad string of friendlies before the 94 and 98 World Cup and won both groups.

I fear that within 3-4 years - this Icelandic team will fall apart again. Their entire core is 28-34 - and other teams will start to figure them out - like Norway did yesterday.

Halfredsson is 33, Sævarsson is 33, Arnarson is 35, Haldorsson is 34, Sigurdsson is 28, Gislason is 30, R.Sigurdsson is 31, Bjarnarsson is 30, Skulasson is 35, Finnbogason is 29, Gunnarsson is 29, Gudmundson is 27, Fjoluson is 29 and Sigthorsson is 28

They have a golden generation - but their results in the last few games must be a concern, 9 goals against in their last 3 games against opposition which certainly isn't harder than they will meet in the world cup- doesn't sound too promising.

So Iceland will struggle - because this time noone will take them lightly.
You mean the man that set up the team figured them out? There's not much to figure out really. The tactics are fairly simple, idiot proof really. Norway plays the same way now.

Iceland doesn't really have a golden generation. Three of the best players are about the same age (Ary Freyr Skúlason is born in '88 so 30 and not 35)but the rest aren't much better players than we've seen before. The players that replace them will not we worse but it's a question of how long it takes to replace Jóhann Berg and Gylfi.

Qualifying for the Euros in the future isn't far out but the WC again might not happen for a long while.

I know everyone from the experts to pundits to fans and even caftards here have called this group as the Group of Death. Initially, I thought so. However, after analyzing the other groups, I think that Group F, Germany's group is the toughest and the real "Group of Death" but it's probably overlooked since Germany is the defending champion and overwhelming favourites to win the World Cup so its basically who will finish in second behind them. Mexico is a continental powerhouse who always make it to the round of 16, Sweden a decent European team who knocked out Italy in the playoffs and South Korea a top Asian team who can always give a good competitive game.

Back to this group, Argentina's poor form and over-reliance on Messi is a concern that have many believe that they might not even make it out of the group with the insanely talented Croatia, the plucky underdog Iceland and Nigeria who always give them a competitive game and even beat them recently in a friendly. However come tournament time, I feel that it will follow the script and its a matter of who finish first between Argentina and Croatia which all boils down to their game. I really don't rate Iceland at all, sorry to all our Icelanders here and Iceland fans, there is no quality in that team at all and they are just thriving on self-belief and that strength of unity which is what brought them so far in Euro 2016 and well done to them for carrying their form to the World Cup qualification, no one expected them to win their group ahead of Croatia and they did it but asking them to do it a third time would be too much. Opponents would have "figured" them out by now. Nigeria never seem to make it to the next round and for all their hype as an African "powerhouse", they are not as good as how people made them out to be. Think that Argentina and Croatia would make out of the group comfortably. Of course I could be wrong but I just don't rate Iceland and Nigeria at all.

Whether who will top the group, I'd give the edge to Argentina since they always finish as group winner in World Cup tournaments. International matches are also usually quite predictable and there are rarely upsets. Argentina would beat Iceland comfortably in the first game, beat or draw Croatia and beat Nigeria in the last game and qualify as group winner. Croatia would also beat Iceland and Nigeria but lose to Argentina. Argentina to finish first and Croatia second.
Mexico are a lot better than Sweden and S-Korea.

If you think that the group will follow a script then you shouldn't expect too much of Croatia who usually underwhelm them. There's also nothing really to figure out about Iceland. They play a very simple game. It's not a team that's good at coming back from behind, it's hard to score against them and they are good at attacking and defending set pieces. Good at defending+goot at scoring from set pieces can get you better but the biggest strength of the team is the team cohesion and that every player in the squad knows their role well. You often see teams fail mentally at the big stage and if Iceland fail to qualify, which is likely, it will because the other teams will be able to match their mentality on the day.

I'm not really expecting much from Nigeria. Croatia can top the group, though, if Argentine remain as shite.

I really hope no one expects anything from us because that's when we play our best. They make mistakes and we hit them where it hurts!

Well I don't think Croatia are anything special based on what I've seen but at least they have some very good players, same with Argentina but they got Messi who lifts them. Iceland I know absolutely nothing about except their awesome nordic celebrations, wont be surprised if they shock us all. You know what, I think Croatia and somebody will win the group

If Nigeria team and coach share your feelings of other teams in this group than you'll certainly be out.

It is a very good group, certainly one of toughest in the tournament. Friendlies don't mean absolutely anything as the teams often try different formations or tactics, players watch themselves from injuries and best players don't play full 90 minutes. No wonder that in many friendlies teams that aren't in the WC beat the ones who are there.

Expect all games to be tight, with every team having a decent chance to go through. Argentina as favourites, though.

Yeah you have some folks who are proud for the fact how many players and for which price DInamo sold. As it's why the club exists and that's a success..
Best thing is even tho Dinamo sold all these players it's in a big financial trouble and right now they're trying to privatize the club although it's a right mess financially and structurally. But they want to make their money laundering legal, the cnuts.
If you in Serbia want him you can have him. :D :D

Our coach and team don't think that the teams aren't that good. They know the talent in the group and know that they have a task on their hands, and they will be there to step up when the time comes.

It's just that some fans don't have confidence in this team even though there are signs of promise.

First Romero, now Lanzini. Then you got the Israel match cancelled. Argentina had a nightmare preparation. They can just stay at home if their luck continues

Fecking hell, what’s with all these training injuries?

Argentina still should have enough quality to get out of this group. Romero is the bigger loss.

Was looking foward to seeing Lanzini in this, sort of player with a good tournament would have potential to step up to bigger club. Very bad luck for him.

I assume Argentina can call a replacement up, who's on their standby list?

Lamela, Centurion

Id call paredes, ascacibar, keanevitter or enzo perez to get a better midfield

I think Argentina should still be able to see themselves through, but potentially a very tricky group...have an inkling there could end up being a surprise. These injuries etc certainly don't bode well for them.

Just wish Iceland don't do shit with their stone age hipster clapping stuff and the boring football. Argentina and Croatia have the best squad here by some margin, hope they see it through for some interesting knock-outs.

Is not Centuryon injured? I bet Sampaoli will line up a double-DM; Messi behind the 9; Di Maria in the right and Acuna in the left.

Is it just me who find their whole clapping hands with the fans the most cringey shit? And then you have other countries imitating Iceland which is even worse and just so embarrassing and pathetic. Its like in rugby where other countries imitate All Blacks and do the haka.

Don't mind it, the sound they generate sounds amazing.

Far more tolerable than the awful Vuvuzelas.

Argentina have the worst luck ever.

I was predicting Lanzini to have a great tournament and move to a bigger club as well.

Can anyone confirm - what happens if a player gets injured? Do they still call up people from the standby list or are they down to 22 players from 23?

I like it.

Pretty sure you can replace injured players in squad up to 24 hours before your first game as Belgium have got Ciman as standby for Kompany.

Once tournament starts and you get players injured then you're down to 22-21.
