He will get plenty of stick for the yellow but I think he did well to control himself afterwards, particularly in the second half. He put himself about more than anyone and didn’t bite on their attempts to wind him up. Didn’t create much but this system is so dysfunctional, can’t help but think there’s a half decent player in him.

Thats what he has improved on since his loan. He didn't spiral out like even more experienced hands.

He's 20. So he will have his good days (like in his previous match a month ago) --- and some bad or really average days like last night's match. But what is consistent is that he is willing to fight for the club. You can accuse many of that last night.

Well done for not getting sent off but the yellow made him much less effective. His pressing and aggression seem to be his only way to affect the game at this point. On a yellow he’s borderline useless.

Similar for Casemiro. Those dumb yellows made our midfield impotent in defense. Was evident in their first goal (although Mount and Garnacho’s aristocratic attitude didn’t help either).

Casemiro does that for Brazil too, and it's because the other midfielder which I think is Bruno G doesn't got forward as he's supposed to so Casemiro takes it upon himself to go forward and defend. It seems like he does the same for us. He gets frustrated by other midfielders not going into attacking spaces so he tries to do too much despite his limitations.

Really? is he 30 year old now? he's young, he's passionate, he's raw. it will take time for him to get composure. Showed more grit than all our other midfielders combined

When I say years I mean 2-3. People wanted him in the first team squad for that long (over hyping our young as usual). For me he’s never learnt that restraint yet

That is the million dollar question. With the pressure that’s on ETH now I’d be surprised if he’s in the team for for next game

I just don’t understand why we look so far behind so many teams when it comes to basics. Every young player coming through seems to have the same issues like poor touches and lack of awareness. Must be the new United way, or pretty much since the class of 92. Just not good enough.

To be honest, this is not a place for young players to do well at all. The atmosphere, the football, the tactical setup. I don't see any young player getting better.

At the moment I’d agree with you. The u23 team is not great, the first team is unstable. Not a great place to cut your teeth

He was terrific at 16. A really great talent. Unfortunately, he spent far too long messing about with the 23's. After that, the loan at Birmingham was underwhelming. He's now become one of those tireless try hards, when all along that was just a really welcomed added extra to go with his great technique, passing, dribbling and vision. Just a general stagnation and that is as much on the club as it is on him.

You've nailed it by saying he's extremely raw. I think us fans are just so desperate for something good that we overrate almost every young player from the academy. With Hannibal it's extenuated by the fact that he was bought for £10m and was generally highly thought of in French football.

I like his enthusiasm but he has a very bad tendency to pick up needless bookings and possibly it's because he's trying so hard to make an impact as he knows the manager is difficult to impress. I don't know tbh, i think he deserved more game time before last night but at the same time, I don't think he's outstanding in any single thing so I doubt he'll be here in a few years either way.

No. Fans are demanding for a manager to be sacked the moment the team starts losing. The media puts huge pressure on the manager. A manager isnt going to play and allow a youngster to make those mistakes. A manager just cant afford to do that.

It also why i think the posts saying that our scouts are the worst are so dumb. Manchester United cant develop young players in a way other clubs can do. Make a mistake as a Dortmund or Brighton player and by next game everyone forgot about it. Make a mistake as a Manchester United player and you become a meme

I understand what you are saying, but I was of the same opinion about Hannibal also when he received a lot of praise after the Palace game in the last round. I see a player struggling with his first touch and taking too long to control the ball, and I saw the same when he was playing for Birmingham last season. I think there is quite a gap between him and Mainoo when it comes to composure on the ball, and also quite gap between him and Amad when it comes to close technics and vision. It's hard for a young player to break through at the top level, and those are the talents he'll be compared too. The impact Amad had at Sunderland was just at a different level.

I like that he's up for a good scrap anytime I've seen him he just needs to tailor it in the right manner because we're bad enough with 11 on the pitch nevermind 10 for needless fouls.

There is a terrific young player in there. He just needs to be picked to play on a more regular basis. As others have noted, he shows the recklessness of youth but these rough edges aren’t going to be smoothed off without regular game time. I would rather see him given a chance to develop at least than watch certain others. How are we as a club going to be able to judge whether he’s good enough and how is he ever going to calm down if he is only in the team sporadically, frantically trying to do too much to impress…?
