Got better as the game went on. Horrible first half though 
I’m no big fan of Maguire but people are being incredibly harsh here, think he had a pretty decent performance everything taken into account, and in the 2nd half particularly he brought the ball out of the defence very well, as opposed to the usual dallying he often showcased.
What a touch he had in the first half though, Maradona-esque pulling that out of the sky. Then 5 minutes later he tried a 10 yard pass to Shaw and curled it out for a corner.

How can anyone watch that and defend him? He was horrendous. He allowed two headers in dangerous positions. Passed the ball out for a corner under no pressure. Slowed down our buil-up. Gave up several big chances in the last 15 minutes because he turns like an oil tanker.
While he got better i would say much of it is more a reflection of Bournemouth if anything, any kind of pressure he was under still showed us hes weak, slow and for a "ball playing defender" sloppy and lacking any intent with his passing.
People see difference in quality when it's Maguire-Lindelof as pairing at the back now and even when they play decent you can see their limitations.
In summer when he most probably leaves United, he can look back with pride as he was captain of the club for 3 and a half years and actually had 2 solid seasons (with some rocky periods, but overall solid seasons). He's too good to be on the bench, capable of playing for solid Premier League side and also shows his qualities regularly for England.

He isn't that bad, I mean he is clearly low on confidence and it makes him play below his level. That said, I do not think he has a future here and would be glad to see him go.
Harry's done here unfortunately. His confidence is shot. Looks like a lost soul out there. The quicker we can get some money for him, the better for everyone. There's a good enough player there to still have a decent time with a lesser team.

At a certain point you lot need to stop calling it a lack of confidence and just accept he’s not a good player. He heads crosses well in front of his own net. That’s it.

You could say he is the opposite off all rounded. He is good at heading and fighting out duels with a non mobile player. Other defender things he isnt good at. He is a specialist to play against someone like Chris Wood or an English centre forward from 20/30 years ago.

Apart from the errant five-yard pass aimed at Lindelöf that went straight out for a corner, then er, that was about it..
It will always be Woodwards ‘Roy of the Rovers’ signing. He was besotted with Maguire to the point that even Ole queried the price tag when there were more technically proficient players out there, Kalidou Koulibaly being Ole’s preference at the time.
An extra £20m alone would account for him being home grown and after a shakey start, it was decided that he should be awarded the captaincy by default in order to boost his confidence, and here we are 5 years later.

He's just an out and out liability for a team wanting to keep the ball, pass out from the back and play a high line which is why he has to go. Good out and out defender but too limited for the style we want to play.
Does anything he do every look composed? Even when he's doing good defending it's under the guise that it all might turn to shit at any point
That shanked pass that went for a corner was funny. He did clear the ensuing corner though.

Worlds most expensive 5th choice centre back.
Harry is a old school Centerback. In the right system he can be good. That's not a Ten Hag system though.
Hope he does well enough to convince a PL team to offer ~£40m on him in the summer.

Are people still analysing his game, I had concluded after that Own goal last season at OT against Tottenham that he was shit and was more or less the 12th man for the opposition, The sooner he's sold the better.
Thought he did well enough yesterday. Not great, not terrible. But he just doesn't provide that feeling of security in the back, especially when paired with his partner in crime - Lindelof. Maguire is capable of these weird lapses of concentration at random times. Those, along with his lack of speed at pretty much everything he does, has cost us in the past and will continue to cost us in the future. I get some anxiety every time the ball is in his zone.
It's clear he just doesn't fit Ten Hag system, as many people predicted way before Ten Hag even arrived. I'd look for a way out if I was him, preferably to another league, like Seria A.

A better team would punish us with those easy chances.
Back to his normal. Far too slow and lethargic.
Thought his defending was good but he was awful in the build up. Everyone seemed to be screaming at him to go wider to the right in the first half but he just refused for some weird reason and started pointing to the left instead.
Why does he still continue to charge out of the defensive line to try and win the ball high up, inevitably get turned, and then be completely out of position?? Surely by now he’s realised that it never works and just leaves him completely exposed as he has absolutely no recovery pace & it just leaves a huge gap in the defence because he’s effectively taken himself out of the game. How has no manager told him to stop doing it? It’s absolutely infuriating how thick he is.
Put him on the edge of his own 6 yard box and ask him to head everything away and he’ll do grand. Ask him to play any sort of high line, progressive football, and he’s an absolute disaster waiting to happen.

Even his hardcore backers have now stopped trying to tell us how great he is. Was awful last and has been well below the expected standard for the majority of his United career.

I think the clean sheet hides a lot of what happened.

-The other players can sense it. The crowd have gone beyond annoyance at his performances - it is comedy to a large contingent now. That's unrecoverable

I won't defend his wider performance because I didn't watch the full match, but just looking at some of the highlights there are a few occasions of "comical defending" being pointed out which are really just Maguire not being able to mark two players at once. With Jaidon Anthony's shot, for example, Maguire didn't do a huge amount wrong; Billing's* backheel pass was firstly very well executed and secondly Wan-Bissaka was caught out of position due to it being a quick transition. Equally, for Billing's first header, Maguire has both Billing and Solanke in the area and is the only player positioned to challenge either of them. (He should've done better on Solanke's subsequent header though)
I don't think he merits a place in the side, to be clear, but some people are ludicrously harsh on Maguire at times.

These people genuinely don't understand football, and defending in particular, at a level beyond youtube highlights.
Maguire is where he belongs in the pecking order in this team as a comfortable 3rd/4th choice CB. Yes, we overpaid and yes he has glaring weaknesses but some of the things he gets blamed for is bonkers. People think as a defender you can never have anyone go past you or be dispossessed and if they do well its obviously the defender to blame.
You can't just look at the last player that got beat for a goal and blame it all on him. Sometimes when there's a turnover the defense is in a very poor position and at a terrible disadvantage. Maguire is a better defender than AWB but AWB gets more praise on here because of his manner of defending, last ditch tackles.
Understanding and rating defenders just isn't a common thing online. It's why you see people rating Vidic above Ferdinand when the latter was clearly a supreme defender.
His heads gone for us. Regardless on your take on his periods of form/past performances there's no real future for him at Utd now. Need to shift him for his benefit and ours.
It's hard to disagree with this at times. Sometimes you'll ask people what they think the defender they're criticizing should've done in a given scenario and they'll come out with some ridiculous nonsense that Van Dijk in his prime probably couldn't pull off.
I do somewhat understand why Maguire receives such scrutiny though. The club made two moronic decisions which have led to it. The first was paying such a ludicrous fee for him, and the second was making him captain within about four months of joining. Had neither of these things happened, I think Maguire would more than likely be regarded as a decent but flawed defender who had a shite season in a shite team last season. As it is, blame will often go his way for goals or shots he feasibly couldn't do much about, and any mistake will be disproportionately scrutinized.
