Harry Maguire

Haven’t even heard of him this season, how’s he doing?

I haven’t actually seen him play more than a handful of times and those were him representing Serbia (looked ordinary).

However, I refuse to judge anyone with the conviction some do without having watched any player on a regular basis.

Not sure actually. Haven't watched him at all this season.

Statistically one of the best CBs in the league this season. I saw the 2nd half of the match today and he was fine, hit the bar with a header too.

I see why there are negative posts about him today due to the goal, but its actually Ndidi's man on the set piece. He starts off touch tight with Balbuena, then thinks he can win the header so jumps for it and misses. In doing so Balbuena, his man, runs off him. Balbuena runs in behind Maguire and the ball goes over Maguire's head to Balbuena for the goal. While it wasnt his man, he could have been a bit more aware of Ndidi losing his man and getting closer to him as he wasnt doing much else on the set piece.

You can talk about statistics all you like, he’s just not that good. He’s not terrible either, he’s just not very good.

£75m or whatever was touted for a CB whose calibre isn’t comprehensively better than the best we have was absolutely bonkers. I’d even argue he wouldn’t even be our second best CB. God bless whoever it was who made the decision to veto this signing.

Indeed. He was pretty good tonight and has been for most of the season. I have gone of him a bit though, especially in a two, because his defensive lapses are quite bad.

I'd have Joe gomez over him any day of the week

Half my family support Leicester and I'd say I'm even more inclined towards them than I am United, point being I've watched almost all of their games as long as I can remember and Maguire is the best centre back Leicester have had in my memory.

He does look like he's lacking a little mental sharpness at the moment, nowhere near as bad as people on here are exclaiming but like he needs a month or so's rest. Could easily be outstanding for Manchester United if you put a fast centre back next to him and some midfield protection, but I can't see any transfer happening for a year or so due to the aforementioned inhibiting fatigue, with no break in sight.

I was thinking that watching England recently but Maguire does offer a lot more playing out of defence and passing than the vast majority of centre backs about. That's why I think he's better in a 3 because his flat-footedness is better covered.

Looks back to his best today. Uses the ball better than any defender I've seen under pressure.

I know some on here think he isnt that good, but i rate him. With the ridiculous prices some clubs want for their CBs, mainly Napoli and Koulibaly, he would be behind De Ligt my second choice. He would be a much better investment than Alderweireld.

Turning circle of a cruise ship.

He's good, but nothing special.

I don't rate him but primarily because he reminds me too much of a Phil Jones type defender. And I fecking don't want anymore of them.

Is this bump a wind up? His shit pass created Everton's best chance and he's only completed 13 passes from 18.

He’s hardly had anything to do? Everton have offered nothing in the final 3rd which is obviously going to make him look good.

Overall game has been absolutely garbage.

What? He almost caused a goal by playing it casually to an Everton player close to their own box.
In truth I only started watching from 15 minutes on .

Obviously he's going to miss some passes considering the range he's often attempting?

You might be right. I like a few things about him.

1) Dominant in the air
2) Usually use the ball very well. Can pass with both feets.
3) Appears to be quite vocal

We do not have a defender with these qualities. I also think its nice that he is English (even if I’m not) and at a nice age, still a year younger than van Dijk was when he arrived at Liverpool.

But yeah, pace and turning point could be a issue. Cant quite shake if of that people in here had the same attitude towards Mane and VvD a bit more than a year ago.

13 from 18 is above the teams average, I would guess? Looks to be a structural problem in the team.

So glad we didn't get him this year, would've been the biggest rip off of the century.

Good not great, but would be a solid English pickup for the right price. Strong in the air which would be the main thing to replace if we replace Jones as he's our 2nd best behind Smalling in the air.

But we cant sign half the Leicester team and I'd prefer Maddison

Agree 100%

His aerial ability does not compensate for his immobility IMO.

Brilliant in the air.

His «win rate» is 75 % in the PL. This is actually better than both Smalling (66%) and van Dijk (73 %). Both Smalling and van Dijk enter more duels though at 6,4 and 5,6 per 90 min versus Maguires 5,2.

That being said, he is less agile than both of them. If he is an option one should consider if he could be the vocal leader we sorely miss and if his (lack of) agility would be a big issue for us.

Chillwell is the player we should buy from Leicester. Maguire is better than what we have, but I don't think he's so much better that we should spend £75m on him.

Most of the caf laughed at Liverpool when they paid that for Dick Van Dyke. He’s been quality for them. Is he that much better than Maguire?
Yes he is. He has far more about him than Maguire it's not even close.

he really isn't as slow or immobile as you lot seem to think he is

Nah I don't think his pace would be a problem tbh, it's when he's on the turn that he struggles.

I think he'd be a good signing insofar as him being better than anything we have (though I'm in a minority that likes Lindelof), but for us to make the improvements we need we need to be aiming at higher quality than Maguire.

you could have done worse than to re-sign Evans, we got him for £3m and he is still quality
