Has Ozil been the leagues best player...

Ozil has been outstanding this season, lets hope he keeps on going and breaks the assist record. A fair few (gooners included) had been getting on his back but class always shows in the end. I think that injury last season did him a world of good. Being out for a few months to work on his physical conditioning and fitness has done wonders for him.

People criticise Wenger for refusing to pay over the odds for players but when he does splash the cash he comes up with arguably the 2 best buys recently in Ozil and Sanchez.

And Cech for £10m too?

Not bad, eh?

A lot of our recent signings have been very good. The problem of course is there haven't been enough of them!

I believe his recent form is the best form he is having in his career. And at Real Madrid, he was absolutely a brilliant player. I can not pinpoint what has increased his performance beside an improvement on team chemistry(Wenger not making too much changes to his team this season) and perhaps players belief that they can actually challenge for the title which improves team confidence. The days when we use to walk over Arsenal appear to be long gone.

Ozil is playing really well for Arsenal at the moment. He looks back to his Madrid form. City are getting rocked

I don't understand the ******* over Ozil's performance in the first half just there. They were two pretty simple passes?

Agree with this. Statistically excellent and of course an excellent player but he's hardly been running the show tonight.

He makes it look easy. For the second assist he received the ball on the turn and immediately played in Giroud with a perfectly weighted pass. It's not the greatest pass ever or anything, but still a quality move. He does that sort of thing consistently well this season.

Agree with the first one as that was basically all Walcott but disagree with the second one, it looks simple but the perfect weight and momentum of the ball is what makes it a good assist, those kind of short but well timed passes are quite underrated.

Yep look how many times we got into great positions against leicester only to make the wrong decision constantly. A player like Ozil makes the right pass 90% of the time.

hey but 15 assists in 17 games its wonderful record, wonder if anybody had more in the first half of the season..

First pass was bog standard and one I'd hardly call an assist but 2nd was a very good pass. The weight on the ball was perfect, enough on it to get Giroud clear of the defender for a clean shot and he doesn't need to break his stride.

I thought he played well today but not great. It wasn't a standout performance by any means. Having said that fair play to the lad he's having a terrific season and he's taken a lot of stick over the past few seasons.

Ozil has been outstanding, and despite Sanchez's heroics when he plays I think Ozil is the better player.

As for PotY - if the vote was done now it would be given to Mahrez, who is balling out if his mind ATM for a relegation candidate. They're top of the table at Christmas. Not a single person in the entire world would have picked this. Ozil is a close second, but Mahrez's form has significantly helped take a bottom 5 side to the top of the table.

Moyes said before the game the jury's still out on Özil. Pretty clueless comment, I really fear for the next club that employs that dinosaur.

It's not exactly an outrageous comment. Half a season of good form isn't enough to make a permanent judgement...especially not when it comes after a couple of years of being quite poor.

If he keeps it up though then yeah. The key difference is that he does make the difference in games atm, instead of just being a luxury player in games Arsenal would be winning anyway.

You're right. Half a good season isn't enough. Jury still out. So poor all those years.:wenger:

He was very good for most of his time in England, not just this season, but most people here didn't rate him because he has a lethargic style and he's not the typical fast and strong donkey most seem to like.

Started the game today with more assists this season than our entire team. Chelsea's too. Then added two more. Not too shabby is it?

His got good numbers, but to me, he's playing just like he's been playing since his arrival at Arsenal. Whether that's good or bad, I don't know.

I thought the exact same! Any time I've watched him he doesn't look any better than when he arrived at first, he's just getting a shit load of assists. Not to take away from his great stats this season but the ball he gave both Walcott and Giroud wasn't exactly a certain scoring opportunity, it was the excellent finishing that earned him the assists not the pass.

Yes. Just like bad finishing has cost him tons of assists too. Hope I didn't just blow your mind.
