I'm torn between my old self and the shit that's posted on here.
I used to love United come rain or shine and it was one of the reasons I signed up here almost twenty years ago.
I don't like posting on the untied or football forums anymore.

I honestly feel posters on here have soured me to my team.

Not so much the team, but some of the hysterical shite I read on here has soured me towards these so-called United fans.

I had this moment last week.

Honestly don't know why I'm sitting by the computer, arguing with people who have zero experience in any management capacity about the best way to run a football club and who's to blame for our current plight.

Think I'll give this place up until after the summer. At the end of the day I'm not gaining anything by trying to convince absolute strangers that we should back the manager...

Not at all. Still go to a lot of games (saving for a wedding at the moment, so not as many as I would like), still love watching United with my old man (after the Everton game we ate a lovely meal my mum had prepared in absolute silence ) and still love the history and emotions of this club.

What it has made me don-is realise how many people just don’t get football. There are people nowadays who literally don’t get it. For example I saw a twitter thread the other day of a “Mourinho fan”. That’s what some people are. Fans of players or names.

They also can’t wait. If they don’t get their own way they strop and kick off. If a young player struggles they are shit and should be got rid of. It is impossible for them to accept a homegrown legend like Ole could do well as he isn’t a name.

I’ve seen fans insult and demean Ferguson and Charlton. I’ve seen fans worship random signings like Kagawa, Ibrahimovic and Di Maria because they were big names. I’ve seen fans criticising lads like Young even though he’s given everything he could and is just no longer good enough.

I remember threads criticising “zombie football” and our midfield during Ferguson’s tenure. I was called a “top red” for saying that we were class and that people should be happy. I’ve been criticised for saying getting rid of Welbeck and signing Falcao was a worrying sign of what was valued at the football club. I’ve seen posters calling Carrick “Carsick” and then later pining for him when he was retired.

Basically there’s a lot of idiotic fans here. Look at those now crying that Ole got the job. But I’m happy that i get it and they don’t. Must suck for them.

If you signed up 20 years ago and feel like this now, i'd suggest a downturn in uniteds success has done it. Not the forum.

Excellent post. You have to wonder how many of them have been to live football matches. I'm not talking about the odd game, but rather many games of football.

I'm an out of town United fan and probably been to around 60 United matches in 35 years, but every time I've been to Manchester or the odd away game, I've learned so much about fan culture.

As a teen age kid I used to be a regular at my local non league side. For away games we often shared a coach with the players as there were so few of us. Again, I learned a lot about football from this. I also spoke to players and realised they are just people like me, just better at football than I am.

I've also played the game at local Saturday and Sunday level. I'm not a good player really, but this makes me appreciate how hard it is. Even so, I've had games where i scored 4 goals then not scored for 5 games missing loads of chances. Hard to explain even to myself.

Football is expensive and also easier now to watch every game at home than it was when I was a kid or young man. I'm not blaming them for this, but I wonder if being so distant from the match going culture of football is the problem.

Nothing online can sour me, I'll just that certain events in life (death of a relative for instance) puts everything into perspective and makes you realize how trivial football really is.

Might also be Liverpool and City doing well at the same time that's making people more crazy.

Fans at the ground aren't the best either. Ryan Giggs Legend used to get tons of stick and people wanted him shipped out and replaced with Harry Kewell.

No. It’s soured me against the generation of fans who started supporting during the fergie years and expect constant waves of success. And those fans who play too much football manager or fifa and expect our clubs transfer policy to match.

Through sickness and in health. Yeah I may loathe he majority of our players but my love for the club doesn't diminish.

Yeah this place can be pretty depressing. /r/reddevils isn’t perfect but people seem to be a lot more positive and upbeat about the team than on here.

Need to stop reading this place for a bit I think.

I just avoid United related threads lately. When we win a couple in a row they go too far the other way.

One thing the city game made me realise is how unemotional some fans attachment to the club is. I thought I'd be able to want City to win to stop Pool getting the title, the second that kick off went I wanted nothing more than to beat the bastards. Whilst others were rejoicing in the fact we'd played a part in pool not winning it.

No, its just an online forum with loads of idiots like the rest of the world. It helps my self esteem as its a reminder of just how superior I am to the average human being. lolzy

Yes. Normally, regardless of our form, I used to be upbeat. But our form plus some of the absolute tripe being discussed over here on this forum has genuinely made me put off the idea of even visiting this site (Although I still do), let alone post here. People are quick to over-react, blindly think they are superior to others without facts or figures, cannot engage in a reasonable debate without the need to insult or bully. Then of course, on the other spectrum, posters are held on a pedestal for everything they say, even if some of it is largely questionable.

I just limit myself to reading the odd posts here and there and generally spend more time on the general.

Nah not sour at all. Instead it makes me and probably other fans more involved in a way we all get angry, sad and sometimes happy but we are all offering our own views for success . There are opinions, views and arguments all around basically happenings of a family which brings us more close . Add to that opposition team fans coming along on with their own point of view on the whole scenario . Anyways nothing sours when it comes to the identity of the club . Players and management come and go but the club will stand tall and also redcafe will probably be always around.

The forum hasn't, and it's not just the club but I've soured on football in general. It's no longer a sport for the everyman, it's yet another big business designed to sperate people from every bit of cash it can.
If you are on really hard times you can no longer go to see your team or even watch them in TV apart from a few minutes on match of the day. Sky and bt want to make money out of you, the chairmen agents and players don't care about anything as much as they care about lining their pockets, the champions League allows clubs who haven't won the league in three decades in, never mind currently being the best team in their respective leagues in the name of more money, you have players like Jesse lingard "earning" £100000 a week for nothing and still being greedy enough to start a fashion line because they need even more rather than thanking their lucky stars no one has noticed he's shit and asked how he gets that much.

Finishing top four has somehow become an achievement greater than winning the league cup or fa cup, actual trophies you to win.

Football is fecked and will remain so, yet somehow I still can't walk away from this club..............

I can understand someone posting a line or two in frustration after a defeat. But when there are people starting a new thread with detailed explanation about why OGS should go - it makes me quite frustrated yes.

Not the club, but Internet-based fans.

I don't find fans I meet in real life to be especially hysterical. We don't always agree, but none of us ever launch nasty tirades against individual players - you'd never find using vile language towards players who are at the end of their career.

I feel there's more realism with your average fan on the street.

We'll not get into too many specifics here and risk another hysterical thread, but the levels people have worked themselves up to over the last 9 games is pathetic. It's like watching a toddler have a meltdown in Toys R Us.

Instead of focusing on the huge bounce Ole got out of the team when he joined, it's all about the last few games and the record breaking away wins count for nothing. Fans actually think a team who were heading for a mid-table finish should be beating Barcelona and Manchester City.

There's no patience here and far too much hysterics.

The worst thing is, you say this and some pitiful twat quotes your post calling you 'A Top Red'.

Lots of truth there. I hope Lingard reads this.

No chance, the only thing that would is being sold to the Saudis.

I've been fortunate enough to have my season ticket 13, going on 14 years.

The Caf is a great place to find out about new players coming through at United or other clubs and players we're linked with. I've figured which threads to ignore but some opinions really grate me as some really overrate our current squad.

It is alike everywhere in society. The people that whine and complain are the ones coming through the noise. The toxic persons that only find faults and errors with everything they come around and not contributing to energy and solutions in any way but they only suck the life out of everything.

There should be a special forum where we could only be constructive, looking for solutions and just utter complaining and whining should be forbidden. That is where forumers tired of endless rants by limited supporters should go to thrive in synergy.

Jesse Lingard on 100k is fecking mint! These clubs make all this money and it goes to a local lad who has won trophies for us. feck it id rather it go to him than some faceless money men in the organisation.

Football is the great equaliser in terms of talent. There’s a guy I know who has a gold medal in rowing. A posh prick who had every opportunity in life. I could have towed better than him. I don’t know because me and every other lad I went primary school with didn’t have parents paying thousands for it.

In football a kid growing up in wythenshawe has every chance of making a mint, just as much as some Eton school wanker. I will never begrudge working class footballers making millions, think it is one of the best parts of the sport

I can see where you are coming from and I'd rather it went to him than the glazers, but not when it's at the cost of the real everyman. Back in the day it was no Biggie for a bloke who worked in a factory for feck all all week to take his lad to the match but now it's a special birthday treat for those at the bottom. People have been priced out if it for what? It's still essentially the same thing it always was, just so some talentless little gobshite can have a new rolls every year and retire at 30?
Keane was right when he said where is the motivation for these lads? Some 20 year old who has achieved nothing yet with all that money? Those sorts of perks and salaries should be for the elite, not every goon who can run around a bit, the sort of players who are actually missed when out injured or suspended not the ones who it wouldn't even be noticed.

I've not been on the forum long but I'm already weighing up wherever it's worth the effort.

There's far too many so called supporters that can't wait to put the boot in to the players and the manager and there's no talking to them.

There's no patience at all. The club is a basket case due to Ed Woodward and the boards complete lack of football knowledge and Ole has a huge job. He needs time and support from the fans and above.

As someone else said social media is particularly toxic which is why I ignore a lot it what goes on on Twitter.
I might give Reddit a look if that's more upbeat and if my feeling towards United start to sour I'll be off

Good post.

Not the team but the forum. I can’t really stand the football parts of this forum anymore. Shortsightedness and negativity all round.

Fans (well, people) tend to be far more level headed and optimistic when you meet them and talk to them in person than when they are online.

And I’m also pretty sure that a lot of these constant moaning types could actually be opposition fans who have come out to troll.

Also a lot of people these days base their experiences off FM or fifa and expect things to drastically change overnight. People saying we need to bring in 6+ players in a window while selling even more are living in a dreamland.

The constant media scrutiny on newspapers and social media doesn’t help either. Easy to get influenced by that.

I am by no means saying everything is rosy (it’s very far from that), but we need time and patience to sort it out. We probably need a change in the structure of the club as well, but that’s another discussion.

Nah, people are entitled to their opinion. The complaints on here only tend to mirror those of people I watch with in the pub.

I'd say what leaves a sour taste is the management. We are hopelessly lacking direction and can't really do jack shit about it, so I don't get too hung up on stupid posts, both the good and the bad are inconsequential.

I would say no, nothing could sour me. While I don’t like our direction in recent years, I love my club. We must realize that times change and elements of the United way will have to follow suit to keep up.
In that same regard the fans will change too. As a result we now have a group of fans who make snap judgements, and want instant gratification. It can be annoying, and ignorant; but in those times if I need too I stay away from here and focus on our club.
It’s unfortunate that some can’t see the bigger picture and want nothing but players in their perfect prime. They have no patience for developing talent, and want SAF from every manager. It takes perspective and understanding of generational talents, and team needs which some don’t have.
Overall, love our team, I would sour of redcafe before I would ever sour toward our boys.

Also. I think it would help if new thread creation was disabled during and after the game (for a couple of hours), so that people can cool down and think rationally.
