Hating Lingard

You can't criticise our players, you gotta support them whatever happens. What kind of a fan are you criticising your own players, FFS. You shouldn't even criticise the way he speaks. Stop the hate. HASHTAG SAYNOTOLINGARDISM

Sarcasm doesn’t really work on forums

Here’s one from this very thread. There are more in the stealing a living thread and other threads

That maybe a little OTT. He could be a starting 11 player for a championship team but in the PL, he is a squad player nothing more nothing less.

It's really just his end product. When it comes off he scores some great goals.

Most players will score a good goal or two if they have enough efforts. Fact is he doesn't score anywhere near enough, especially in the league.

Yeah because he needs to work on his end product. His approach play, work rate and movement are good.

Fact is he has roughly the same goals and assists to minutes ratio as Rashford and they are only behind Martial. He is also a backup player who barely plays in the league but actually has an even better record in the league this season with a goal or assist every 79 minutes. He is contributing more than enough this season.

He will play for a lot of PL teams, don't you worry. BTW, he also plays for England.

I like him, good squad player. For me it's not the lack of goals thats an issue mainly because he barely starts, it the performance against good opposition that worries me. He gets lost and his game is easily defended. He is a player who creates space and against lesser teams it works great. Id be happy to watch martial left rashford right lingard centre all behind lukaku against weaker teams. Top team play mata, he has the experience we need.

A lot of the praise he receives, prior to the Watford game, is quite vague.

"Good at running"

"Works hard"

"Team player"

Almost as if a teacher was writing a school report for a thick child but didn't want to come across as too critical, so instead they fall back on things like 'tries hard' and 'always enthusiastic'. The biggest problem for Lingard is that aside from very occasionally playing well, I'm not sure it's easy to define what he does or what he excels at that you quite honestly wouldn't expect from literally every other footballer at professional level.

TBF he's got the best movement in the squad, it's phenomenal. He also has a decent finish on him. He's a tidy player, will never be a world beater but could be a very good squad player for us for a while yet.

His numbers are pretty decent this season when compared to the amount of minutes he has played. The thing that gets me is that his numbers were atrocious last season and yet the same people who were hell bend on defending him then, are still defending him now, but this time it's ok to use his stats whereas last season, numbers didn't matter and it was all about the 'other things' that he done well. Weird.

Anyhow, as I said earlier in here: My only issue was when he was starting regularly despite some horror shows. Now that he's a squad player, I'm happy enough with that. He badly needs to add consistency to his game, but he's been a good enough option this season for the most part.

How has he got a decent finish? He scored one league all all last season and missed some absolute sitters.

Our whole squad missed absolute sitters last season. As I said before though, if I had to choose any player to bury a shot into the net, it’d be between Martial or Lingard. They’re the only two players in the squad I can really think of who hit the ball smoothly and look calm when finishing. Everyone else seemingly goes for power and rushes it.

People who keep saying he is not 'United quality' are so tiresome. If he is not United quality, he wouldn't have played for Managers like LVG and Mourinho. Simple. He has a role in the team, and he is fulfilling it. Criticize him when he doesn't play well. But why this personal hatred?

He will leave when the manager thinks he is not up to it. Till then, he is our player.

He was excellent on Tuesday but lets not re-write his career here. He has been poor for the majority of games he has played, I think a few people are a bit premature with the 'told you so's'.

I agree with the personal hatred though, It's strange. But then again was the same for Cleverley and Richardson before that so it's nothing new.

I can't really fathom all this 'hate' stuff. I mean, someone saying he's 'Championship standard' is hardly hate. It might be a silly opinion, but in no way does it equate to hate.

I have seen players like Rooney and Fellaini get genuine hate on here but Lingrad falls into the Welbeck and Cleverley category, in being a local lad that plenty deem not good enough, that's it really. If one or two posters, have expressed any 'hate' towards him, it hardly warrants a thread.

Yes, he will. May not be a starter, but he would be a decent squad player for all of them.

That is what I meant to say but didn't say it correctly. He would be a 3rd or 4th choice squad player not a starting 11 player, but in a championship team he would be in the starting 11.

He's not first choice here either so what's your point.

Strange Lingard would be my last choice out of any of our attacking players to be in on goal in an important match. I don't want to stick the boot into Lingard again because he does score good goals but i don't think he's necessarily a good finisher.

I can think of two recent one v ones vs Ajax and Spurs where he messed it up. He is a scorer of good goals as opposed to being a good goalscorer.

No hate at all towards Lingard, just wish he'd grow the fcuk up.
I'm sure that would help him as a player.

You need to write to Mourinho.
I can't believe he is so blind.
Do it now and you might just save our season.

Eh, he misses chances, but our whole team is notorious for it. He is a very cool finisher at times though, something we don't really have except for Martial. His finish the other day was just a very good finish, was calm, didn't smash it, picked his spot and buried it. Lukaku in that position (in his current form at least) would have most likely scuffed that shot.

My point is we shouldn't encourage mediocrity, he was first choice last season ahead of Martial and Mkhi and was getting selected in spite of bad performances while the other 2 were being benched after having one bad game, I don't want the same thing to happen this season. He misses many passes and goal scoring chances and shouldn't be selected when Mkhi or Mata are in form and Mkhi and Mata should be given the chance to get back in from. Why wasn't this thread created when he wasn't getting selected or at the beginning of the season when Mkhi and Mata were playing well?

Man I don't know what your point is, he's just a squad player.

Miki has been poor for most of the season and has had plenty of chances to rediscover his form.
Lingard deserves a run of a few games now to see can he push on an establish himself.

Tbh, he's professional on the pitch. the stuff on social media is just his personality.

I think he has a natural football intelligence eg positional sense that is quite rare. Lampard had it for example in the way he got into goal scoring positons.

Jesse is underrated.

At times yeah, but most other times not so much. As i said i don't want to criticise Lingard because as you say every player misses chances. But i think we just have different criteria for what makes a good finisher.

For me thats someone who more often than not if given a chance in the box will finish it. Lingard scores some cracking goals but i don't think that describes him at all.

Lingard looks all set to become one of the best squad players around. Once he finds a bit more consistency he'll become a major impact sub.

The thing is, is not that much help as a sub. He could be an alternative and more dynamic #10 for some easier games, providing he finds that consistency.

Exactly, what he does on social media shouldn't matter in general. He's a young man, enjoying his life. Who are we to criticize him for it anyway ? All we can and hope for is that he does his best when playing.

Yup, a young man earning a lot of money and living out his dream of playing for his boyhood club. He's absolutely entitled to have a-bit of fun.

I can understand people who want to criticise him for his football shortcomings but feck me, there's no need to bring anything else into it.

Yup. There is plenty to criticize when it comes to the football anyway if one has really set his mind to it.

The only thing I have against him is his mumbling in post-match interviews, I can't understand a thing he says! It's like he only talks when he's breathing in, the f… hipster!
