It, like all the criticism Lingard faces, is completely valid. He's rubbish and, yet again, his rubbishness messed up a very good attacking chance.
He hasn't had an assist in a year, that's a run worth extending.
He is so average he makes average look like Messi...
When the team is in as dire straights as it is, you can't fault people for focusing on the most obvious weak links.
And so far this season the weakest link has been Lingard. The second and third weakest links being Rashford as a striker, and Lindelof.

Term to use for Lingard is mediocre? if he was at least average he would be useful every so often.
I don't think blaming a loss on lingard is 'valid' when he came on late as a sub. I think it's wild bias
We didn't lose because of him, no, and I don't think anyone claimed as such unless I'm mistaken. However, as usual, he didn't really help in any way shape or form either, which is the majority of people's problem with him.

I’ve never understood the Lingard hate; why can’t people accept him for what he is? A decent squad player. Like a Park or O’Shea. Not every player has to be a world beater and you need a few that will sit on the bench without kicking up a fuss.
I’ll freely admit that if we’ve got serious aspirations to win titles then we need better first choice players, but he’s homegrown, popular in the dressing room, versatile, hard working and tactically disciplined. That’s a player I’d keep around the squad.

Because he's not at the level of a decent United squad player. He's not on the same level as someone like Park, not even close. He offers nothing as a starter or off the bench. He does nothing but run around and lose the ball.
As for bold, those players are ten a penny.
Park and O'Shea were much better players than Lingard, Park especially so.
Lingard gets so much hate because people think he's the epitome of our problems since SAF coupled with the fact he's living it large and acting like he's hot shit rubs people the wrong way.
I don’t understand how people think he “epitomises our problems”. No DoF epitomises our problems. Sanchez’ contract epitomises our problems. Marcos Rojo earning £100kpw epitomises our problems. An average, local squad player who gets carried away on social media? Not so much.
Rojo shouldnt be getting 100k a week but neither should Lingard. If Rojo getting 100k a week epitomises our problems than so does Lingard getting 100k a week.

If Lingard played in one of Sir Alex great sides then he would leach on other people's talent and success just as the likes of Phil Nev or Nicky Butt did. Its so easy to win trophies when you run around like a headless chicken while the likes of Scholes, Keane, Giggs, Ronaldo and co, do the heavy lifting. Unfortunately Lingard came in a different era and the fact that he's larger then life doesn't help.At least the likes of OShea and Phil stayed low to avoid being noticed.

Nicky Butt and Phil Neville were important players, no need to disrespect them, especially Butt, he'd be great at CDM or no.8 for us atm, he'd walk straight in!

He was pretty good during that purple patch. Scored almost every week. It's a bit of a shame that he can't even get a scrappy goal or two to boost his confidence.
Im sorry but he is not average, even an average squad player in an attacking role would register at least a single goal or assist in a calendar year, this drippy little gobshite is being paid a fortune for a job he cant do.
That's incredibly harsh on Nicky Butt in particular. Lingard's more of a Cleverley/Gibson. Fergie would have made use of him for a few seasons and then moved him on to a solid mid-table PL club. He's stuck around for so long because, well, because we're shit now.

No It's not, never mind this CO92 bollox, Nicky Butt was pretty shit, I used to hate him playing as it usually meant Roy Keane wasn't.
Not shit but an alright backup for Keane which was grand for a more defensive minded player and role. The problem with Lingard is you cant be at that same relative level when you are in the offensive fulcrum position.
I still don’t understand the venom. I can understand not rating him that highly, and he’s not playing well at the moment, but it’s not like we’re starting Obertan every week. If we sold Lingard we’d get good money and plenty would want him. Iwobi, who I used to call Arsenal’s Lingard, went for £35m; I imagine it would be similar to a similar level of club. Would people be this angry if he didn’t do all the social media crap? Is it all the beans that riles people up? It shouldn’t, there’s definitely better things to get sand in your v*gina about that average united squad players.
He's about as much use as obertan

You think Sir Alex Ferguson would’ve wanted an attacking player who doesn’t score or assist in his squad? That was never going to happen.
Park was unlike Lingard, an actually good defensive player.
P.Neville played really well for us in midfield and went on to have a good career for Everton.
Butt played in some really important matches and held his own.
O’shea was a defender who could’ve played anywhere across the back 4 and give you a solid performance more often than not.
Lingard is just a really poor and ineffective attacking player who would’ve probably ended up in Bradford if he came up through our ranks back at the time.
He certainly isn't helping himself by keeping to promote his clothing brand during international duty on instagram.

No, that’s the definition of hyperbole. You can not rate him as a player, but don’t compare him to Obertan, that’s just silly. Obertan is playing second tier football in Turkey.
Nicky Butt's role in our history is getting underrated the further away we get from his playing days.
He was the starting centre midfielder ahead of Scholes back in the day.
No goals or assists in almost a calendar year as a regular starter for utd. Lingard would be at home in the Turkish second division.
Very often our best player in periods where we struggled. When the team was on song, however, he couldn't always keep up.
If he was in a SAF team, he'd have been a better player by virtue of the fact that Ferguson would be his manager.
He would be my 3rd choice as a no.10 in my local swedish team, he is that bad.
If you are bang average, its usually best to stay humble. He is a prime example of our accepted status over success mediocrity
