How does LVG solve the Rooney problem?

That is the thing with Rooney, if someone else hits a spell of bad form they will get some leeway. However I am in the same boat as you that his past behaviour over contracts has left a bad taste in my mouth.
Mostly if his troubles now are a result of lifestyle choices he consciously made like smoking, drinking and stuff.

Start leaving him out of the team every now and again so we can spread the rumour of discontent and flog him in the summer.

Playing him and letting him stink up the place isn't going to do his value any good anyway.

Ideally we get a big signing in so it becomes natural for him to be replaced rather than being dropped.

I'm different. I was on his side in 2010 when the first contract stand off happened. I thought our transfer window after losing two world class attackers was a joke. The second in 2013, I though we should let him go as he wasn't worth the hassle. In that time he's gotten considerably worse. Rooney of 2013 is light years ahead of the present one and Rooney of 2013 wasn't even that good. There has been a steady decline. My frustration comes from the fact that I think we are stuck with him and decisions are being made not on football reasons.

Sadly this is very true, he has been getting worse and worse and on a steady decline ever since 2011. Right now he doesn't even deserve to play in the Premier League, let alone a club of our stature

Steady on buddy.
Rooney is definitely EPL standard. But I don't think he is MUFC quality.
Unfortunately far too many Rooney fans keep mentioning his ability, 5 years ago. Yes, nobody is arguing that he wasn't great 5 years back. But this is 2015 and in 2015, he isn't very good.

In saying that, in our last game, he wasn't the worst player on the pitch.

With the Euros coming, I can only see one way out of this: bench him now and indefinitely, then Rooney will eventually terminate his contract by his own iniative just as Keane and Van Bommel did, and get the hell out of Manchester in order to get those playing minutes while United gets rid of a huge financial burden off the wage list.
