If we win the Europa league

Yeah. The same people who don't want anyone to be excited about the prospects of winning it now. At the end of the day, this tournament might well save our season, get us playing in CL next season, get us top quality players who are only winning to switch to CL sides and as a result get us back to the big boys league again after slumming it four years now.
Not sure where to start with this. Slumming it for 4 yrs now? We've played in the Champions League twice in the last 4 seasons.

And yes quite clearly winning the Europa League is simply a way to avoid playing in it again next season, hardly a cause for excitement.

From where we've been the last 3 seasons, I consider winning the Europa League progress.

You have to see it as the stepping stone it is.

Much like when people thought we were on route to dropping out of the top teams due to signing Michael Carrick on the back of a season winning just the League Cup.

But for me, get the likes of Bailly, Pogba, Mkhi, Rashford and Martial that taste for winning things, and winning a European trophy of any kind isn't easy. English sides have routinely done shit in the EL even when playing strong teams.

But the sense of entitlement and holier than thou attitude from some United fans, as well as these prats from opposition sides who aren't Chelsea or Spurs..it hurts my head.

By no stretch of the imagination, all things considered is this a majorly successful season but the hope is that it's the springboard for bigger and betters things. Mourinho is the biggest troll in the world, even with the two trophies he can finish the season with, he won't be happy.

I mentioned winning Europa League carries much more significance than merely avoiding playing it again. Did you read the entire post where I listed out how we may get to shop for better players and do bettet in CL as opposed to what we did when we went to CL twice in last four years?

What a pathetic thing to infer from what people hoping for a better 2017-18 season are posting on here! Even if the winner was forced to play in Europa League again, I would be excited for United to win a final. But you know, you are the elite fan. You only ever get excited when United are playing CL semis or winning PLs. Or maybe you're not a fan at all.

I can't argue with that because it was a monumental night, but, still, beating Ajax (if we get there) would be pretty good, right?
Not in terms of emotion. I mean that the CWC was tougher to win than the EL is now. At the very least, the UEFA Cup before the 1997-98 season was a lot tougher to win than the EL is now.

I don't think you need to be an 'elite' fan for this to be your expectation. Even back in the 80's when Ron Atkinson was boss we were a big enough club that our goal was to win the league title and winning a couple of FA cups was no more than a consolation and wasn't enough to keep him in a job.

I don't see why any fan would be tremendously excited about winning a tournament which the minimum expectation for any big club is not to ever be in it.

Well that and the fact we were 19th in the old First Division at the time he was dismissed. If he'd have kept winning the odd cup and mounted a decent challenge for the League he wouldn't have been fired.

It was still fairly early in the season. He'd won 2 FA cups in 4 seasons before he was sacked.

If we win the Europa League, it will finally give the competition organizers the credibility they've been craving. They'll sing songs about us and it could help with England-Ireland-Scotland-Wales' next World Cup bid. Expect major interest in the tournament in years to come.

We were 19th. He'd won 3 out of 13 games. There was going to be no decent challenge for the League that season.

EDIT: In addition, I'm not sure United ever truly forgave him for the embarrassment he caused them when he left his wife for a younger woman. Also, Martin Edwards felt he should have been in Manchester the previous Summer sorting out the coming season instead of gallivanting off to Mexico as a pundit. I think when they had the chance, they got rid.

So as I said winning the odd cup even back then wasn't enough to make up for underperformance in the league or buy a manager more time.

If we win... pass season, grade D-, remedy our bad EPL result.

If we don't, yup it's going to be official - we're not good enough, and the players should be ashamed.

Blessing either way  Jose should improve our squad this Summer and players should be a lot more serious next season.

People have to accept that post SAF is a clean slate.

If we were to win a European trophy of course it is progress as we have done nothing of note in European football since the great man retired.

What I have found positive from this campaign is our away form. The squad is learning how to travel and take points, something we were struggling to do and if we are successful will stand us in good stead for a CL campaign.

Everyone should get behind the team and hopefully we can end the season with another trophy.

you think winning this might get them to kick on to the next level?

Winning any trophy is important, winning 2 will give them a taste of the success, could be good for us.

Yeah, if they win it. Then they can look to compete for the title next season.

HOWEVER, them not winning it I don't think is that detrimental.

Pogba will still be there, so to Mourinho and they'll still have £300million to spend.

No consequences.
