In Defence of Jesse Lingard

Made me chuckle, rashford is a young striker and shouldn't be judged on performances in a different position, let's not forget it's his first full season in the 1st team.

I've seen a ton of goals scored by average players that could win goal of the season it's does not mean they have a good shot, and even if it did what does a good shot even mean ha am I missing something? Does he have a shit load of goals this year? No

Just running around doesn't equal good movement, the same was said about cleverly all those two do is run but often it's not into a space that is any good. I've lost count of how many times he runs down blind alleys asking for the ball only to be ignored.

He's an average footballer who is filling in for our lack of options, that does not make him a good footballer.
You say Rashford shouldn't be judged due to his age and the fact that he's played out of position, yet you also ignore the fact that Lingard too has often been played out of position; the lad is not a winger, but best in the middle.

Regarding Lingard's shot, of course an average player can score the odd wonder-goal and as you say, that does not correlate to him having a great shot. However, that isn't the case with Lingard, who's consistently shown when he shoots that he can both place the ball well or strike it with power, again pretty well.

Lingard may not be good enough to start for a team challenging for the CL year in year out. However; squad depth is crucial for a strong team, and Lingard is a very solid option to come off the bench and do a good job, much like your Parks, Browns, O'Sheas, all of whom we needed during our most successful periods (2007-08 season comes espcially to mind). A squad chock full of world class players including on the bench just doesn't work because as you said, this isn't football manager matey.

I agree, it's surprising people won't let squad players be squad players, the fact Is, he knows this too, he's dedicated to the club and he scores for fun at Wembley, that's all without mentioning his fantastic runs in behind and general positioning in games, he really is a great squad player, he shouldn't be a starter I agree but man is he underappreciated by some.

Brown o shea and park are all much better players than lingard, they could step in without a real drop in quality, where as there is a big drop in quality of lingard plays
