Injury Prone Central Defenders

I think it was last season when Jose challenged our defenders (specifically Smalling and Jones), for declaring themselves injured, when they weren't actually injured and could play (with some discomfort).
Smalling raised his game and I do remember him playing through a match, while injured (LCFC, I think it was).
Jose would've loved that.
Unfortunately Smalling also tried to play while injured against Chelsea. Ended up having the worst game of his career, and people on here still bring up that match as to why we should sell him.:wenger:

When you see the stats laid out like above it's pretty incredible that we've stuck with Jones for so long. Got to feel that any other club, big or small, would have sacked him off a couple of years ago.

On the positive side.....shows they are a good bunch of defenders. Our defence is usually good. Yes we have a good keeper but besides that maintaining any kind of form coming back from injury all the time and finding you have a new partner every week can't be easy.

It is just odd as Bailly and Rojo were hardly injury prone before joining us.

Btw, can someone do stats on Jonny Evans before leaving us and after leaving us? His injury record seems to have improved fair bit after he left us.

It is our Full backs who cause most problems. It is time we got some proper full backs.

Transfermarkt have him down as 284 days and 56 games missed in seven seasons with us and 85 days and 14 games missed in three years at WBA, so a definite improvement. Thought his record with us would have been worse than that really.

Thing is though that none of them were injury prone before joining us.

Any cb that joins us and plays bit regularly gets crocker. Look at bally and Rojo.

So does it matter who we buy even? It's bizarre.

Not always the case, Blind and Lindelof have done ok injury wise. Jones is a special case though given the sheer amount of injuries he's had and yet none of them have been serious injuries. He's just injury prone. Rojo had a very serious injury and Baillys had one bad injury which has warped his record given he's only had 2 seasons with us.

Considering the amount of seasons Jones has been with us and yet he misses on average 15 games a season is incredible. Lad is cursed.
