I'm not sure whether the Bruce suggestions are serious or not.
The man has been the most outdated coach in the league for years.
All reports about Poch and Ten Hag suggest they are both gettable, but more expensive now than they will be in the summer. Surely we aren't waiting just to save a few million quid?
Are we? Please say we aren't writing off the season in November because we aren't willing to pay what is necessary to get a preferred target right away.

It’s not just about what a club wants. It’s also whether or not a manager prefers to join mid-season when the ship is wobbling, or wait till the summer, by which time the boat has probably steadied and they’ve had time to prepare properly.
I sure hope not because I feel the squad has a lot of untapped potential and could make the champions league semis if the bracket breaks right.

At least the board are resisting a knee jerk reaction and not being hasty appointing a permanent manager. Still raging we missed out on Conte. I have no faith in the current temporary set up but happy to be proved wrong. Tomorrow night against Villarreal will be interesting......
I think we will persuade Rangnick to take over until the summer.
Not sure why people are worried about Carrick, he's there for the next game or 2 max because we don't have an interim manager ready. We had plenty of time during the international break, but it seems woody and co really thought Ole could turn it around and still have zero plans.
I think going for someone who's managing a national team is a good shout. Opens the door for several decent options.

It's because it's quite feasible Carrick could be around for longer given the idiocy of ed etc
None of the top international managers would consider doing a dual job or leaving their role before the wc
The coaching staff should have been sacked with Ole. Typically, our board make a mess of it. It's so depressing.
Steve Bruce has put his name into the hat now
Frustrating as our inexperienced coaches have been part of the problem (all of the problem?). It's obvious that Ole has loyally stuck together with them & not sold them out. He's now taken the hit for it. I do (still) wonder how Ole would have done with a more experienced coaching team. You just don't get the time to learn on the job at United - a run of bad results and you're gone. I definitely think that if it wasn't for the loyalty he's shown, bringing in more experience on the coaching side might have helped, and I do think one of Ole's plusses was probably that he could motivate players and man-manage. However, as the lack of plan, tactics and coaching has come home to roost, clearly the morale and cohesion of the team has collapsed.
It's precisely at times like that, that professionals fall back on the tried and tested basics of the tactics and team set-up that is coached into them at the club. There's always time for the blood & thunder team talks to motivate them, but at United we've been running on fumes for ages now. How many games were clawed back into after conceding early? Plenty of last minute spirit, when needed, but never actually bossing games we should be bossing. Rarely ruthlessly finishing teams off.

He should see it as his audition for the premier league rather than a temp job with United. If nothing else, the focus of the world is going to be on him and his work for the rest of the season, so even if he doesn't have a future here, a club like Leicester City or Arsenal would be in for him if it goes south with Brendan or Arteta as is the trend right now.
I could definitely see Steve Bruce getting the job.
I mean, they are not going to change the coaching set up, and were so reluctant to release Solskjaer, they probably see the "United DNA" project being able to continue under Bruce.
What about Mark Hughes? He has the united DNA too.
Steve Bruce was born to manage Ronaldo and could take his game to new unseen new levels.
Even this board isn't dumb enough to not foresee the shit storm that would come with hiring the manager sacked at the bottom club in the premier league.
There is just no way that the board are dumb enough to hire Bruce who is just recently sacked by Newcastle United for not winning a single match. Either pay the money or hire attacking coach for interim because both Poch and Ten Hag are attacking coach. Why trying to inject a defensive coach to the player in preparation to hire attacking coach in the future?

Before you can even attempt to resolve a problem, you first have to clearly identify the cause.
And most United fans are of the opinion that the coaching staff are, at least, part of that problem.
So unless there is a fundamental review of the coaching system, they have, yet again not done the most basic of things.

Well Rangnick only makes sense if we give him charge of all things related football, so Murtoughs job really, which means it won't happen.

In playing terms it could be said that Carrick's former role is the root of many of our problems. From Fergie and down through the list of managers since, until present day no one ever really replaced the job Carrick did in the midfield as DM (and a converted one at that when he had been brought in as AM, from Spurs). Matic made some impact, until his legs started to go, but even he did not always read the game like Carrick did.
How much difference might we see if Carrick has the final say? Will he, as a 'stand in' (not been given even interim manager status), be able to solve the DM conundrum, maybe not, but at least he will be/should be one manager with a unique view of what is required.
Lets hope so, although as things stand he will be in no doubt there is much he has accomplish in this respect... hope springs eternal though!

I would totally believe that IF his name was in the frame from the likes of Mitten, Whitwell, Stone or Ducker
please get bruce in by the 27th of next month, we're absolutely desperate for points.

If we actually went with Steve Bruce until the end of the season. Can you imagine?
It's as if those bumbling dolts don't realise that top four isn't a shoe-in for us! If we take Bruce until end of season and we don't make CL qual. we'll probably end up not getting our actual manager of choice.

That is a very interesting point about the playing and potential interim manager role.
But it surely did not need to wait for Ole to be sacked for him to take the required action.
My biggest concern with Carrick relates to his mental toughness. We know that he struggled to impose himself as an England international because he was not forceful in the dressing room. And preferred to stand back or say that he was not fit.
Maybe he will find it easier at OT. But we do have a number of strong egos that he is going to have to 'win over'. And their first instinct is going to be. - so what has changed.

What went wrong then?
I would say they are a very big part of the problem.
Just watch the players reaction to situations occurring in-game, its a real eye-opener. The coaching/ management from the touchline is either missing, or is just a series of dumfounded looks on everyone's face. Patterns of play are limited to the ones LvG introduced, in a vain attempt to hold on to the ball, on the basis "they can't score whilst we have the ball", trouble is we're not skilled in these matters, move too slowly and its only put into action many times out of a sense of panic and /or ' we don't know what to do syndrome'.
Admittedly lots of things happen in a match that can present a surprise situation, but there are lots of repeat patterns occurring that our players don't seem to understand or respond to, set pieces are a joke, corner taking laughable, playing out from the back unbelievably bad, applying a high press .... er whats that boss! This is all basic training/coaching that either is not being undertaken, or players are ignoring or don't understand.
Football is a simple game, or should be!
Confidence is low, as low as I can remember seeing, yes the manager takes the ultimate blame, but what happens to the coaches? SAF use to regularly freshen up his backroom boys, from his no 2 position (e.g. Brian Kidd through to Mike Phelan et al).
Some times watching the antics of our players, you begin to wonder if they all train on the same pitch?
