Interim manager discussion: Who replaces the interim interim manger (Carrick)?

Happy with this. Carrick isn’t the manager, he’s a coach and is no less guilty for Ole being shit as Phelan was responsible for SAF’s success. He likely has a very different idea of how to play than OGS.

Looking to appoint an interim asap is the right thing so Carrick hopefully will be a manager for one game or so, and hopes now are that Blanc or Rangnick will be followed by someone like Ten Hag.

Carrick, Phelan and McKenna are all part of the problem and should be sacked as well.

Why close the thread made after this was made official when this was made to speculate? I thought mega threads were a no-no?

As the coaching team is staying wouldn't it have made more sense for McKenna to be manager as he has had managerial experience with the U18's

I'd be alright with it if it was temporary charge for the Villarreal game but as it is for multiple games shows how stupid our board are and haven't actually been planning for this despite delaying it for weeks and weeks,

agreed. People should hold off, I think we’ll name Blanc or Rangnick this week, but I think we’ve no chance of having an interim signed, sealed and training with the team in 2 days.

Is Carrick the manager for next week only or he is there till the end of the season?

Hasn’t phelan gone too. I mean he was Oles assistant manager so wouldn’t he be next in line. Carrick was just a first team coach

What do we make of this then? Have they earmarked someone currently in the job, so have to wait?

Could we get ten hag after all then? Cracking start for Arnold's reign that would be.

What are folks views on having an interim? We've seen it work to some extent elsewhere, like Hiddink at Chelsea.

It definitely signals a new approach to appointing our manager. Which is good news.

When Mourinho left and Ole came in there was a weight lifted. The players obviously felt it too. It doesn’t feel like that this morning. Ole has deservedly been sacked but we’re still in the thick of it.

This is to be expected, you’ll never find an interim appointment within a week. Does point towards a long term target.

It will go Carrick, interim manager (Blanc, Rangnick?) and then the long term appointment in the summer. I feel going from Rangnick to Ten Hag would be the smoothest option.

Carrick and McKenna did most of the coaching so this doesn't bode well.

Even once we get an interim, do we also get new coaches or do we have to keep most of our current coaching staff? Surely we can't hire a whole new coaching staff for an interim manager?

This is seriously depressing.

I'm fine with this approach.

I would rather wait for Ten Hag in the summer than bring in Zidane now.

But if we're waiting for Rodgers in the summer  :nervous:

As a non Utd fan looking from the outside it'll be Carrick for X amount of games and if he does reasonably well, he will get it until the summer

Wonder if they'll do anything different to Ole, regards formation and personnel?
We're stuck with Maguire, AWB and the McFred boys. Even if you want to play a certain way - you can't. Those 4 alone will drag you down.

Ole's built a team for Sam Allardyce or Tony Pulis.

Board giving up already this season based on that decision looking for interim till end of season.

Should be breaking bank to get the right manager in.

Nothing is going to change. Ole didnt do the coaching. He sad it a few times. So we are still going to play bad and not win anything

after what Kean has said on tv about some of the players no way they would play for him. His tactics of flying kicking the whiteboard at sunderland in the dressing room was regarded as a complete joke to the players. they thought he was an arsehole and downed tools

That's bollocks, that whiteboard stunt was overblown and he kicked it on several occasions. What killed Keane off at Sunderland was his recruitment. He brought in too many soft players who weren't mentally capable of handling his abrupt style of management. That was all his fault.

He then tried to bring in a few players that were tougher to add an aggressive streak to the team, he felt they were too nice. Players like El Hadji Diouf. He also brought in Chimbonda and Ferdindand for similar reasons. That created an even bigger mess, Diouf pulled a knife on one of the other players, players weren't happy because there was fights in training all the time. It was all down to him recruiting the wrong players who clashed with his and the other players personalties.

I don't think so, I just don't think there is anybody they want available until the season ends.

That was my thought. Ten Hag is in the bag for next season. But maybe that’s what they want us to think.

If we hire an interim, will they be able to bring in their own coaches?

I'm thinking that we won't be able to hire a whole new coaching staff just for an interim manager.

This thought is seriously depressing.

We'd basically be writing the season off.

Better an interim now and the appoint the right guy permanently in the summer than appoint the wrong guy permanently now.

Let's just hope they do appoint the right guy in the summer.

In the meanwhile, we've seen plenty of examples of interim managers having success, so we can at least hope for some sort of life this season. Better than sticking with Ole in that regard.

Best case scenario is Poch gets sacked harshly from PSG. Ten Hag will be a pipe dream still.

Could signal getting Zidane only for this season so he has a free run for the French team after the WC. Doubt it but I can live in hope !

I can't say I agree. A managers job is to get the best out of these players. Are the players you mentioned the best in the world? No, but neither is Milner, Firmino, Henderson, Matip, Kieta, etc but Klopp gets the best out of them.

I really cannot believe they didn’t put out feelers to interim managers during the international break. It honestly beggars belief.
