Interim manager discussion: Who replaces the interim interim manger (Carrick)?

What about Guus Hiddink as interim? He's recently retired after stinking up the place at China u21 and then Curacao. But perhaps he'd do better with better players?

Edit: I'm out of posts for the day, but to respond to your comment, @JPRouve, I'd be inclined to take those "friendships" with a grain of salt. The "friendship" story just allows them to shift the narrative from "Big-time manager takes small-time opportunity". In this case, it's neither a small-time opportunity since everyone knows the interim might be appointed long-term, and secondly the Guus isn't exactly spoiled for choice anymore.

Why? Gerrard went to Villa in like 48 hours
They had a home game whereas we need to fly out to Villarreal tomorrow. Someone coming in wouldnt even be able to see the team in training before jetting out for a game with them, and if they're not based in the UK like Gerrard was they have to move countries. It's not feasible.

No it would be seen as good planning because that's what nearly every top club. I'm not sure why you'd think people would complain when most have been asking for this to happen for weeks.

People would 100% complain, we already had people complaining about the club leaving Ole in the dark when the emergency meeting was rumoured. And it wouldn't be good planning but out of the ordinary planning, even the clubs that are praised non stop don't do that.

Conte didn't have to be the choice. The whole club run so badly, from top to bottom.

I'm just really annoyed at them appointing the same coaching team who were clearly a massive part of the problem, even if it is only for a couple of games.

Who else is available and not bad or willing to be an interim manager?

What a feckin joke. You get rid of ONE person in the management team and think that addresses this?

We're literally going to just change the manager but keep the rest of the shit bastard coaches in place?

I can only think Ten Hag has agreed to join in the summer and the club wanted Ole to last until then.

Now we're going to have another poor cnut in that the players might not take seriously enough because they already know he's off after a few months anyway.

I hope even an interim manager fecks off the current coaching staff and atleast relegates them to manage in the academy if not sack them.
The club can't get rid of all the coaching staff until a new manager is appointed and he either brings his own guys or decides to keep the old ones (latter being unlikely). The team needs to have some coaches in place!

At this rate we are going to be in a relegation battle. How can a serious business person sack a manager and then expect that the staff that were left behind were capable of fixing the problem. They are the problem. Utter incompetence throughout. That's not even beginning to ask why a football club of the size of Man Utd is incapable of finding a suitable manager to take over as interim boss in the 4 weeks since being beaten 5-0 by Liverpool and sacking Ole. We will be lucky to finish in the top 10.

The problem with people like Hiddink and Heynckes is that the reason they took interim jobs at Chelsea or Bayern is because they are friends with executives. They wouldn't do it for other clubs.

Sure they do. But on this page alone it's gone from 'we've only started looking this morning' to 'we started looking after Liverpool game'.

To me the fact they've announced plans for an interim through to end of season indicates they know exactly who they want but know he isnt available until them and also they know who they'll get as interim but understandably doesnt want the first game of his tenure to be losing a crucial game in CL because he's not even had time to learn everyones name yet.

There's no time to get anything else in place in 2 days. Carrick until them. Then we announced interim then we announce permanent when we're contractually able to.

I might be wrong and too optimistic but I think 'we dont know therefore we assume it's bad' goes a little too far
You have some points. But you do understand the last few years have burned us fans too badly regarding the notion that we as a club got any "plans" at all.

Yes of course. I've thought the decision to appoint Ole in first place as nonsense and he should have gone long before now. I'm not without criticism of the club

Ralf Rangnick until the end of the season.

Seen this elsewhere. It makes sense. He's currently not employed as a manager so doesnt have a 'ready made' staff he could be dropped in with. Even if we sounded him out after Liverpool game it'll take a while for him to assemble his team. Would make sense, and fit with the narrative of needing Carrick for a few games in the immediate future. Also someone we could move up stairs (as per his current experience) ready for new guy in summer

We have too much to play for and the squad has too much quality for the board to throw this season. We need a good interim ASAP.

Haven’t seen this mentioned or maybe I’m reading in to it wrongly, On Evras post on Instagram he says.

“Players I’m coming for you now, see you against Arsenal”

Is he meaning he is going to join the coaching staff or that in his Tv duties he’s not going to pull any punches.

It means he's Evra

If they are seriously proposing Blanc fans need to make as much of a stink as the Spurs fans did about Gattuso.

Announcing that your next manager will be an interim manager is a surefire way to get a top class coach in

We seem to have the same set of coaches who are struggling to get a tune out of this squad minus Ole. I know it’s temporary but we seem to be firing shit against the wall in the hope that it sticks.

I don’t really see a place for the likes of Carrick and Phelan in the months to come.

Yeah Carrick could well be in charge until around xmas as we have two games a week until Brighton

I was thinking the same.

Apparently he can only manage for 6 weeks. Due to not completing his baggages. So hopefully they won’t be messing around regardless of games.

Yeah have said it multiple times since Fab broke the news last night, Carrick just can't be in charge too long with so little experience.

Having the coaching staff take over is just laughable, but given how this club is run its really not a surprise.

2 more defeats coming up no doubt.

Just catching-up with the discussion so he might’ve already been ruled-out, but I liked the link earlier to Luis Enrique for the interim job, if he would be interested and if Spain would be willing to give their blessing.

There’s only one international break left this season I think which he could still take charge of, and Spain are already qualified anyway, plus there would be no confusion about if him he’ll be appointed full-time since he obviously has the World Cup coming-up late next year, allowing the club to get on with the full-time appointment without that added pressure.

He’s obviously a great coach, and very different from what we have been working with in recent years - could be a great opportunity to save the season.

I’d certainly prefer that to many of the names mentioned.

What's aime jacquet up to these days? world cup winner, get him in!!

On a more serious note, would Joachim Lowe be considered for interim?

They backed themselves into a corner when they rejected Conte. To have the ill qualified Coaching staff steady the ship is inevitable now that the sacking has taken place.

Gallardo from River Plate would be interesting. But will never happen

The way some of you speculate sometimes doesn't take into account we're talking about people with lives here - you can't just "pick" someone and they show up. They got families and lives to uproot. They got commitments. Any proposed backroom help have the same.
