Internationals June (Euro Qualifiers + Nations League Finals)

Us selling DDG and replacing him with Cillessen is the stuff of nightmares

He's absolutely fecking shit, and no one can convince me otherwise

Thanks :D

Any young forwards ready to break through for you guys? You desperately need it.

Dutch CBs in 2006: Ooijer and Mathijsen
Dutch CBs in 2019: Van Dijk and De Ligt

Dutch forwards in 2006: Sneijder, Van Persie, Kuyt, Robben
Dutch forwards in 2019: Dumfries, Depay, Babel

You just need to get it right all at once and then you'll beat us
Not really to be honest. Calvin Stengs isn't bad, but still inconsistent. I personally dont rate Justin Kluivert and Bergwijn could become quite good, but not quite Robben.A Apparentlyt a young kid at Bayern who shows some promise.

Bigger problem is the lack of creativity in midfield if you ask me.

It’s a strange format. Wales for example could have benefited in losing their group, going down a pool and then winning next year for automatic qualification to a tournament, if I’ve got that right
It's not automatic qualification, though. It's a spot in the playoffs for the championship.

There is also Boadu at AZ but, he will have to recover from a long injury like Stengs did.

Dumfries is the rb though... but you are right. Add Robben, van Persie and Sneijder and they would be almost unstopable.

Well.. a decent goalkeeper would help too. Cillessen is shit.

My bad, meant Bergwijn.

Portugal were the better team and deserved the win. I expected more from the Dutch but they were off from. Their RB looks a real weak link and even their defenders were in panic mode at times.

Bernardo Silva was the best player on the pitch.

Great moment for Guedes to get the winner after his previous international tournament experience where he kept fluffing chances all the time. He only sprang to life in the last few months of the season for Valencia, and now that goal so hopefully he'll be back in form now

I agree, on his day he is brilliant, the problem is that he usually don't want to be
It’s a myth he doesn’t work. Just check the running stats. Not being a sprinter doesn’t mean lack of work. Having said that I like to see him more playing alongside Danilo than Neves. And agree if he was more consistent he would be on another level. But decision making wise he is simply better than the others. Reason why he always play.

He had a pubalgia problem reason why he needed a surgery during the season. He isn’t a striker, more a Diogo Jota type of player but with more quality at their best. Mentally he needs to improve when he doesn’t get things right.

Getting rid of the confederations cup is a mistake. It was a traditional tournament. What on earth does the nation's league means ?

Yeah I liked the Confederations Cup they probably had to kill it because the disaster of giving a World Cup to Qatar. They should bring it back in 2025.

Only saw parts of the England game and tonight's but what do people think of Dumfries?

Reminds me a bit of Valencia (at right back) in a good way.

Doesn't look silky but effective?

I disagree. The level of competition in the Nations League is much better. The 2017 ConFed cup had teams ranked 1,3,9, 16, 42, 43, 65 & 122. It's not really a competitive tournament.

The Nations League had teams ranked 1,2,4,5,7,8,9,10,13,16,17,20,39,40. It's a hugely competitive tournament in terms of team quality, more so than any other. You can't win it or advance in it with favourable draws or just a lack of competition. It also ranks all the European sides.

Dutch thoughts from both games:

-De Roon played well, the forwards not so much
-Dumfries was shocking and seemed like he'd get 2 yellows in both games at times. Looked comfortably their worst starter.
-Seemed like Koeman should be picking Luke De Jong up top, he really does seem to have become a proper target man and can impact a game and that's something they could use after playing good stuff in midfield then having play come to nothing. They don't have to mirror Ajax in every way and their front 3 didn't look up to much when the midfielders were combining.
-Bergwijn couldn't get on the ball in either game
-Wijnaldum brimming with confidence, has improved like most Liverpool players seem to have, annoyingly

Swiss thoughts from both games:
-Mbabu looked quite committed and had good chance of direction defensively, 8M looks a good price for Wolfsburg even if he's not special on the ball, as he seemed comfortable keeping it simple but also used his pace well at times
-Schar can really pick a pass, he should move this summer to some team playing 3 at the back and wanting offence, like Inter presumably under Conte or Wolves. Newcastle need to sell too.
-What happened to Drmic? Injuries? Did not look good.
-I like how boringly functional they are, in terms of potential to make a deep run in 2020 or 2022. Goals will be hard to come by, but they'll be in games and their first XI will all be 23 to 28 years old at Euro 2020, seems perfect for a team that will need energy to defend a lot but will have played a fair bit together by then.

Ahh right, when England lost in the semis I read a lot about it being a meaningless glorified friendly no one here gives a shit about anyway

I don't know who told you there were meaningless glorified friendlies and I have no idea why you would choose to believe that either...

Zirkzee? If so, hes a good talent but don't envisage him being world class. Could end up being your first choice in a few years though, guess it will depend how he kicks on. He's always been huge for his age.

Yeah Zirkzee. Though I havent really followed him.
