Internationals March (Euro Qualifiers + Friendlies)

Starting XI: Pickford - Walker, Keane, Maguire, Chilwell - Henderson, Dier, Alli - Sterling, Kane, Sancho

Bench: Heaton, Butland, Trippier, Tarkowski, Rose, Rice, Ward-Prowse, Barkley, Hudson-Odoi & Wilson

I see Queiroz started his Colombia reign with one of his signature 1-0 victories away in Japan.

Somethings never change
Would probably have failed miserably on a club level, but im glad he's found his calling at the international stage. Will never forget his antics with Iran against Korea.

Will be watching this to see sancho.

Maguire and Keane as a CB pairing is pretty brutal. As is a Henderson - Dier midfield axis. Rest of the team looks very good. Severe lack of quality in those two areas though.

Most of the team is young so there's time for some new youngsters to break through in midfield. Alli, Rice, Foden, Gomes etc.

Very true. Rice and Foden, you imagine, will come into the XI over the next 12-18, and Harry Winks in there will make a lot of a difference too. Gibbs-White, Mount, Maddison, Longstaff etc may also be in and amongst over the next couple of years. Things really looking good for England tbh, quality coming through in every single position.

Do we know why Shaw withdrew? And is it serious with Rash?
I am not sure about Shaw, Rashford it is an ankle injury. Nobody has said how long he is out. Hopefully all our injuries will be back after the break. If not then the cupboard is bare again.

One wasn't picked because he had just come back from injury, two others were picked and withdrew because of injury.

I know. But I also remember the days we would be dominating the squad in terms of numbers. This just feels wrong, extenuating circumstances notwithstanding.

Did anyone see the players in the tunnel? Kane was focused, more or less looking forward. Pickford was just shifting around back and fourth. I thought that was an interesting contrasting approach to the start of the game.

Yeah I noticed that! If it was me I'd be more concerned I was being rude to the kid paired with me haha.

Why are they in UEFA indeed? All ex-Soviet states got an in?
I think all the former Soviet states in Central Asia were allowed to choose whether they wanted to compete in the UEFA or AFC set ups when the new republics formed after the USSR dissolved. I think Kazahkstan were the only ones to choose Europe.
The players from the USSR could also choose from any of the new states to play for if they wanted, Andrei Kanchelskis is Ukrainian but played for Russia, although there were plenty of rumours why.
I think it was the same across all the former Communist bloc nations, players from a country which broke up into smaller republics could play for any of the new nations created by their country being fragmented into new states, or looking at it another way, reverting to the way they were before being amalgamated into Soviet satellite states post WW2.

would like to have seen a dier, rice double pivot. It might not be the best but should allow alli/lingard to roam freely.

Pogba's through balls

How's this Bruno Fernandes not even in the Portugal squad?
