Has there been any kind of street protests against the assault on Gaza in Israel so far? I’d imagine there’s a huge risk of escalation if that happened?
 
Whoever did it, I think that it's an accident.
 
Bombing a hospital and killing hundreds.

Not really covered under the banner of “We have the right to defend ourselves”

Collateral civilian deaths while going after terrorists is nothing new for the global community. While always criticized its also ultimately accepted, par for the course. Intentionally blowing up a packed hospital... that's a much bigger deal. If this was Israel, Hamas has won.

For what it's worth, this doesn't look like an airstrike to me. You don't get large fireball explosions like the one in the video from the high explosives that are used in aerial bombs.
Large fireball exlopsions like the one in the video are usually from some kind of propellant explosion. It also seems like a surface explosion with very little dirt thrown up in the air, that would also suggest this wasn't an air strike since bombs dropped from the air usually penetrates the ground before detonating and throws a lot of debris into the air.
 
Israel trying to blame this on a failed Hamas launch and some theories about this floating about on Twitter as well.



Seems fairly biased a view to me, unless there's someone with more knowledge on air strikes who can debunk this.
 
I'm surprised IDF went straight to Hamas did this, which can be disproven, rather than the simplistic excuse they have for everything, which is Hamas was hiding there.
 
The images from this are brutal, horrifying, bodies literally being stacked up like it's a slaughterhouse.

I believe the angle is that they might have tried shooting the missile from inside the hospital.

I'd like to write "wait and see" but it's so difficult to believe anything you see/hear nowadays,
with all them tech-savvy people who apparently can fake pretty much anything. into anything.

And even if, in the end, it was proven that Hamas indeed did that and not the IDF,
I'm not sure it's going to matter much. There will have been enough people & governments denouncing Israel and the damage will have been done.

The fact that the IDF takes a long long time to seriously response tells me that somebody bombed a hospital by mistake and that they're now trying to see how they can minimize damage in the PR front.

There surely has to be a halt now.

As someone who follows the war in Ukraine on a daily basis and has seen Ukrainian PR, I'd say Israeli PR has been remarkably bad.

all those who went public with saying that the other side's civil loss of life is a tragedy has been hounded, and the posts were deleted.

Maybe something like bombing a hospital will make some room for that. I'd like to hope.

That's my interpretation. The initial answers don't exclude IDF which is strange in itself. I think someone messed up because if it was deliberate, a lie or excuse would have been ready.
 
People saying that this will change the viewpoint around Israel are missing the fact that Israel has done this before time and time again. It will change nothing.

Surely there has to be? This is pretty much a war crime with no justification, provocation or extendiating circumstances for anyone to hang onto.

Edit: IDF claiming it was an Hamas rocket now. Satellite would probably be able to confirm - expecting the Americans to come with something on it .
 
The BBC’s live feed is reporting that the hospital was previously hit by an air strike on Saturday, which injured 4 people and caused 5000 people to leave, who were sheltering in the courtyard. Make of that what you will.

Oh I most certainly was not trying to absolve them of any guilt. If it's a mistake, it's still bombing a hospital with precision weapons. If it isn't, it's... unimaginably worse.

It's the same with that bombing of the "free route" for Gazans to flee the northern part to the southern parts.
there have been plenty of people who claim it didn't look like an airstrike (I can't pretend to know even the slightest about these things).

I really don't know what to think.

I don't think the IDF cares for Palestinian lives at this point (or hardly ever), but to bomb a hospital, from a strategic point of view...
It is very very very stupid, and I believe that if it was indeed an Israeli act, it must have been a mistake.

This has the potential to change the outcome of this entire war, I believe.

Already there are claims that this cannot be an Israeli rocket (despite Hamas having nowhere near the capacity to commit damage like this), not necessarily because people may be blindly defending Israel but also perhaps because it's such an unimaginably heinous act, and because it appears so strategically self-harmful. But this attack can't be looked at in isolation, literally hours ago Israel bombed a UN school, it targeted truckloads of people travelling on the road it instructed people to take, it killed one of the most high profile journalists in the Arab world deliberately and muddied the waters of the investigation for *months*, their government and the IDF have not previously demonstrated good faith, they've repeatedly shown us their playbook, and on first impression the bombing of a hospital does not break from their playbook.

When a government and army's previous crimes are allowed to pass and it can weather every storm of criticism due to impenetrable and unconditional support of all variations of US governments, and when they're given an effective carte blanche to do whatever it takes to eliminate Hamas, this sort of thing can happen and in the eyes of those making the decision it can be calculated as rational.

Another thing that I would like to point out is that having a better public perception in the West will do sweet feck all to help the Palestinians. These people do not live a sheltered Western existence, they are fighting for their lives.

The only thing that matters is if anyone will stop Israel and no one will.
