I am really worried for both Jews and Muslims in other parts of the world as human beings can be very stupid, lack the ability to analyse situations and direct frustration towards the right quarters.
While I can feel the pain of the Israeli society, surely they have to know that this was coming at some point with the continued neglect of their neighbours. It is beyond negligent for Israel to think it can achieve peace without addressing the Palestinian plight. The use of Military force will not achieve long lasting peace except if the plan is to eradicate all Palestinians from that land.
I understand pain and I have lived it, the first reaction is always the wrong one. They are fighting people who have nothing to loose due to decades of injustice and dehumanization. I just hope they have a diplomatic solution to this issue.

Where did you get the idea that peaceful protests are not allowed? German is an extremely liberal country. Berlin is one of the most liberal cities in Europe. Hell of a claim to make that they have suddenly banned peaceful protest?

Didn’t check France but quick google does reveal that in Germany they banned pro-Hamas protests (apparently due to some celebratory gatherings in Neukolln immediately after the attack on Israel) but not pro-Palestine protests. Which seems fair enough?

I'd imagine these protests are getting cracked down because despite the "peaceful protestors" line, many of the protestors aren't peaceful and some are openly anti-semtic, which would come into conflict with German hate crime regulations.

Pro-Palestinian protests have been banned/clamped down on. 1 was specifically banned, not because they were chanting for Hamas, but because it was "too close" to a Pro-Israeli protest.
Plus, are there people out there peacefully protesting on behalf of the actively violent terrorist group Hamas? Are they new members of the local Hamas cell?
Conflating Palestinian support with Hamas support is a slimy move from politicians and the media. Didn't the BBC retract some statements to that effect recently?
Ok, I guess that makes sense. Germany is excruciatingly sensitive about antisemitism, for obvious reasons. But I know for a fact that pro Palestine protests are not uncommon in Berlin. I’ve walked past one.

Germany being sensitive about wrongly killing 6 million Jews shouldn't translate to being overprotective against pro-Palestinian protests which are overwhelmingly not pro-Hamas. Especially if Germany is a democracy.
Good post, those articles are well worth reading. God only knows how these kids will turn out when they become adults (if they arent murdered before then). Its too much trauma for those so young.
I guess that depends on your definition of “overprotective”. I can see why they don’t want any active and obvious support of Hamas, specifically, on their streets right now. As I already said, they generally don’t have any problem with people taking to the streets in support of Palestine.
I also think the cultural and emotional scars of the six million dead Jews run a little deeper than you seem to be willing to give credit for.

These protests have a tendency to produce antisemitism and violence, so they sometimes get rejected even in quiet times. With tensions running especially high and people celebrating the attack of Hamas in the streets the police are probably even more careful.
The optics of Germans or people in Germany shouting "gas the jews" as they did in Australia doesn't really bear thinking about surely you see that

Whats going on? This is a genuine question from someone not educated in Middle East politics. From my uneducated perspective, Israel, are bombing a neighbouring region containing hamas militants, and killing innocent people in the process?

The last couple of days are a microcosm of why this is so toxic and tragic. Feels like there are few people who are actually genuinely concerned about the humanitarian aspects and more concerned about point scoring, selective sympathy or projecting the worst possible perception on the other side.
I haven't heard much outrage about the prospect that Islamic Jihad killed hundreds of Palestinian civilians in the process of trying to kill Israeli civilians, as if somehow if the IDF killed them it makes it more of a tragedy and injustice. And very weird attempts to draw moral high grounds in areas of beheading or not beheading babies, when thousands of people have died brutally.
It should be possible to criticise the Israeli govt/Hamas for what they are actually doing and why they are objectively doing it, than essentially projecting your own disdain for them as a strawman.
