Israel - Palestine Discussion | Post Respectfully | Discuss more, tweet less

While I’m not going to deny that the BBC has issues with fair balancing of the parties involved, I also think to take a single news show as proof for this, doesn’t really work and doesn’t make much sense.
of course in this instance you have a fair point. But in reality if you have followed media coverage for a while, not in the uk but Canada and US, it is pretty obvious the Israel angle takes precedence. You would only understand this pre bombings but after?

They've killed another journalist team in South Lebanon. Of course, nothing will happen to them.

I know. I’m not disputing this. I just believe if someone wants to make this very valid point, they should do so in a manner that’s much better researched. Because arguing like this, at least in my opinion, results in nothing but ammunition for the other side, who have now been given a base for valid criticism that makes it more difficult to argue the same point.
The truth suffers if it gets represented in a bad way. Even if it’s the truth.

Some unconfirmed numbers beginning to leak out apparently.

First tweet sounds like a Romano special, just need a 'here we go'.

But in all seriousness glad to see we're moving swiftly towards a sizeable hostage exchange.

Do they not know about Muslims??? The slur our hindutva guys aim at muslims references exactly that!

This is first-hand testimony from Refaat Alareer, a Palestinian writer. He was sheltered at Rantisi hospital for a bit.

I went with one of my in-laws to speak with the chef, preparing food in the Rantisi hospital basement. Hundreds of people were sheltering in that part of the hospital. Hundreds of others were sheltering on the first floor. And the second floor. And the third. The basement was open. There was not even a remote possibility that any captive could be kept there, not even for a matter of minutes. The basement can be seen from the first floor on the northern side of the building. It has windows, so what happened inside was not a secret. If cooking rice is a Hamas activity, then that was all that was going on in the basement.
[...]
That Israel allowed everyone to leave is evidence that claims of “Hamas terrorist activities” at Rantisi hospital were lies. Not one of us was detained or even questioned.

Israel's claims of "terrorist activities" in a children's hospital were all lies.

you realise that it wasn't always a "prison"?
Israel unilaterally dismantled its own settlements in Gaza and gave the land to the Palestinians.

instead of using the opportunity to coexist peacefully and in prosperity with Israel, they voted in Hamas and started blowing themselves up on buses in Israeli cities.

Ask yourself what a "Free Palestine" means. What happens if Israel decided to just let them into Israeli cities. What would happen? Would be a horror show
This post is wrong on so many levels.

Which makes the IDF claims even more ridiculous. Not that anyone is really buying it now.

Establishing a major command center and holding hostages in a bunker Israel built and knew everything about... Yeah, sounds about right.

Watched this earlier today.

I don’t know him or his political bent (if he has one) but comes across as calm, clearly knows subject matter in detail, goes through his overall view step by logical step and doesn’t ignore the 7/10/23 Hamas murders.

Assuming he knows his stuff, hard to know how some individuals/groups wouldn’t be charged with serious crimes when all this is done….

…. but I‘d still bet nothing (serious) is actually done. Maybe compensation and “promise it won’t happen again”.

This world sucks.

I'm a fan of Owen Jones. He does know his stuff and after fact checking a bunch of things he's said, he's usually pretty bang on with the facts he uses.

He is an ignorant, right wing extremist, idiot. I know it's hard to believe such stupidity exists in a government, but it does.

we have some equally awful MPs (one is charged with a bombing) - but they would all know about muslim circumcision. i think it might be because for hindus, it is a point of difference, whereas there, it is a similarity?

Don‘t know him (may well be knowledgeable / balanced) … I was referring to the professor guy chatting.

Even if he’s wrong and it’s not classed as genocide, can’t see how actions to date are NOT war crimes. Same for Hamas.

Ben Gvir and Smotrich have voted against the hostage deal and Smotrich is threatening to withdraw his party from the government.

What’s their reasoning? Are they just enjoying the chaos, death and destruction?

Would there be a snap election if he withdrew his party from government?

I doubt it since Gantz joined the government for the war, but not entirely sure of the dynamics.

Should stick them in a closed room with the families of the Israeli hostages and let him explain… 30 children, 8 mothers, 12 women.

Yeah it’s not going well for them in that respect - Ben Gvir publishes photo embracing Gaza hostage’s relative, who responds: ‘I told you not to hug me’

What’s their reasoning? Are they just enjoying the chaos, death and destruction?

I think so, yeah. They’re looking to take full advantage of this conflict to pursue their long-term goal of expelling the Palestinians. Fomenting conflict has always been their plan.

This would seem to make it virtually impossible for the cease fire to happen since the hostages are almost certainly scattered all over Gaza.

This was always going to happen when they brought it to the whole cabinet. Netanyahu should trade those two for hostages.

No censorship, wink wink.

It's even worse in Hollywood, people are getting fired and dropped from their agencies for being pro-Palestine. On the other hand, you have cnuts like Amy Schumer and others being blatantly racist and pro-genocide and it's completely fine. All this may seem unimportant and the hypocrisy isn't surprising but others may not be aware of how far it goes.
