Italian Serie A - 2021-2022

Dzeko is 35 and still scoring for fun, what a great career he's had. So underrated.

Italian league is very entertaining.

That’s the new accepted wisdom for bad defending, though, which is counterintuitive in Italy and stems from not having really good defenders around the league any more? Some coaches have even renounced defending… if people want a circus, just give them the circus (Mourinho, anyone?).

It is also counterintuitive that Juve, fielding the regular fullbacks from Brazil (Danilo, Alex Sandro), the two ageing but still good enough centre backs from Italy (Bonucci, Chiellini), and one of the most promising centre back around (De Ligt, who seems Chelsea bound already for a €100m+ fee, courtesy of Raiola), is so sh*t at keeping clean sheets, but it really is on the midfielders, their carelessness and the general lack of consistency.

It will be an interesting week in Turin before the international break, with two cagey but not impossible games for Serie A (Sampdoria and Torino) plus a truly difficult CL match against Chelsea on Wednesday. Chelsea are the current benchmark in the game as reigning champions and we are clearly a couple of notches below them right now, one for the midfield (they have Kante-Jorginho-Saul, we have Bentancur-Locatelli-Rabiot… sigh!), one for the team cohesiveness and organisation (Tuchel really did wonders just coalescing what Lampard left disjointed, while Allegri still needs a couple of months and possibly more from the transfer market in January).

Anyway, I would happily take two horrendous wins in the Serie A and a midweek drubbing from Chelsea in the CL.

Rome Derby starting now.

Mourinho picked a pretty attacking team and Lazio are always good to watch so can see it being high scoring.

SMS time.

One of mysteries of last 5 years why no elite team has taken him off Lazio. Man. United crying out for midfielder with his style. Guess Lazio want about 200 billion for him but contract is slowly running down.....

Been a pretty easy start for Mourinho really, getting exposed big time today.

Don't think Roma make the top 4.

Of course Roma aren't making top 4. Actually even Lazio are going to struggle for a top 4 finish.

Inter, AC Milan, Napoli and Atalanta are all pretty good, and you still have Juve whom no doubt will recover. Roma look much weaker in comparison.

I don't think the club counts on CL football next season that much. They know they have a long road ahead before thinking of a cemented top 4 finish.

That chance for Roma could have made the game more exciting. Don't get how they missed.

Yeah that's fair. Juventus will certainly finish above Roma despite their slow start.

It's just all these tedious "OMG MOURINHO IS BACK" posts when Roma beat Salernitania or whoever. Wait until they beat someone really good and they're miles off that today.

Doh, why shouldn't Roma be fighting for a CL spot?
Squad wise they are no worse than Milan and not that far from the others.

The Derby della Capitale is its own league, what you see there from both teams, stays there.

Very good first half, intense and entertaining..

Mourinho must fix Roma defense as soon as possible though if he wants to compete for the a CL spot. Immobile should have put the derby to bed in the first half and already against Sassuolo, Verona and Fiorentina their back 4 looked shaky

Lazio have been shit ever since the second goal. Kinda lost control of the game. Roma have played well for the last 15 minutes.

Second half should be good.

Looked terrible decision for penalty.

Zaniolo is incredible at times. What a save by Reina.

Roma actually attack pretty well. Their defense though, absolute shit.

That was a fun watch. I actually enjoyed most Serie A games I watched this season.
