It's not coming Rome.

As if people are still triggered by “it’s coming home” and still refuse to acknowledge it being a joke because we’re always shit and sing it despite knowing we’ll usually be out early in the knockouts

But both views of it are true. These days it usually starts off as a joke, gets more and more serious as the tournament progresses and then it all collapses. The new Scouse Boom-Bust Cycle if you will.

Moreover its a nothing world cup, even if England won this it would feel like a lesser victory.

Still, it's funny to see Italy falter like this
Its going to be such a hollow world cup all around. Taste of things to come I'm afraid with about 48 teams in the next one and so on.

Not really. I think England fans were as shocked as anyone to find themselves there. But at that point everyone is quite obviously in high spirits and fully taking advantage of the potentially more apt song they’ve been singing for 15(?) years taking the rip out of themselves. That so many people can’t accept it is weird.

Are England fans really too blind to see that Italy’s OTT celebrations at the Euros were in direct response to their cockiness and terrible behaviour at the time? :wenger:

I love that no matter how many times England fans keeps saying they sing this ironically it just never rings true.

We all know come the world cup you will be singing it again and you will actually believe you can win it

It only makes it sweeter when you don't

Of course we will be singing it again as we know what it means . It’s coming home is inserted into every sentence as a joke. The fact people still don’t understand this, is just bizarre.

Well the last couple of to tournaments have been a semi final and a final so yeah we thought we had a shot.

I keep watching the N. Macedonia goal over and over just for the all the different celebrations - it's some of the purest form of "I am so happy i have no fecking clue what to do with my body" that you're going to see.

Football is great. Laughed at England after the tournament. Laughed at Italy last night. It always goes and comes :D

A minute of silence for the lack of the beautiful Italian female fans on the stands at the World Cup. Oh, wait, it's Qatar: they would probably stoned to death by simple attending a match.

Thought this thread might turn into England bashing.

Mental people still don’t get the ‘it’s coming home’ song. You’ve had it explained to you enough times. Pretty obnoxious really, refusing to understand other cultures.

Yeah its only a song if you dont win. And thank goodness you dont win. Cant stand it if you guys actually win it. Its coming home at last and all.

Your media is one painful thing to read before the final, and it successfully made every neutral root for the italian.

Thats a feat bigger than actually winning the world cup.

I have yet seen a neutral that sided with england last Euro.

Cant stand their cockiness when they havent even won shit

And refusing to understand other's culture? Your FA banned cavani for having a banter in his own language which you dont even bother some common sense to learn. Talk about telling other to learn your culture

Bloody Southgate bottling it against these jabronis.

If we had played with the intent of dominating instead of cowering, we'd have won.

Bloody Southgate.

Not at all the same team.

The back 4 of Italy at the Euro was Spina-Bonucci-Chiello-Di Lorenzo. None of these 4 started the game last night..

One thing to remember. England fans hate the media more than any other fans. I wouldn’t take what they say too seriously.

26 years came out in 96. I cringe when they sing it now. Makes us the laughing stock.

Oh look the thread has turned into England bashing, what a shock.

The amount of hate England fans get is insane. Are we truly the only country in the world that gets sarcasm?

For all their success in big competitions there was always a sleazy way in achieving success for those c...
They beat the best Brazil side with 3 shoots on goal in 82, squeezed past Australia and provocated Zidane in 06 (France were the better team on the day) and even now Chiellini should have been sent off giving that he was the last man and nobody was stopping Saka on his way twoards the goal. It couldnt have happened to a worse bunch of pricks.
Germany is the golden standard for achieving success and they did 2014 in style.
As far as England goes I think 90% of fans would take a trophy and not going to Qatar. It is a dire place for a World Cup anyway.

The obsessive anti-English fans are mildly less annoying than the relentlessly defensive England fans.

I know right, imagine defending the team you support. I know it's an alien concept on this forum, but just imagine.

They're not even defending the team most of the time. They're defending themselves against the accusation that English fans are annoying. Which they do very in a very annoying fashion.

England fans still butt hurt it seems. Can’t blame them really when they got beat in a Euro’s final in their own backyard after screaming at anyone in their vicinity that “it’s coming home!”

All supporters are annoying in different ways. Generally speaking people seem to be particularly offended about the "it's coming home" stuff which genuinely is the most sarcastic statement but it seems to be astonishingly misunderstood across the world despite the English telling everyone it is sarcastic for the past 25 years.

Honestly it's class, I've never seen a song rile up so many countries so easily  If Russia vs Ukraine doesn't start WW3 then "It's coming home" in Qatar will.

Every point you make above generalises an entire nation based on the FA’s decision making and media narrative, both of which are disliked by most English people anyway. Pretty narrow minded and sounds like open and shut Xenophobia to me. Hopefully one day you can get past this irrational hatred of a nation of people, good luck!
