It's not coming Rome.

Episodes all went our side at the Euro last year, episodes all went against us in this qualifying round… and we’re out again. Mind, it’s well deserved, and the Euro medal has been a miracle, really. Now, I’m going to write something unpopular but, you know, I’m neither looking for full understanding nor pity.

The Italian football is still paying the self-inflicted damage of the 2006 farcical Calciopoli scandal, which was only aimed at destroying Juventus, the only Italian club with the means and the will to operate at international level, in that making the best Italian youngsters grow while playing elite games.

Once the peasants dethroned their reviled dominus, the entire chain went down and crashed, so here we are. Screwing Juve is the best way for a parochial system to stay at parochial level, with Serie A now worth nothing and no Italian players used to compete at the highest level anymore: Verratti is our best player, and a semi-retired one in Paris if you consider his real level.

Add to this, the economical convenience of importing average and past-their-peak footballers from abroad (who pay very favorable tax income compared to residents), thanks to a loophole in a law designed to attract scientists and engineers… and no young Italian player is seeing real football anymore.

What will happen, now? Nothing. You are just seeing again just another smear campaign against Juve, in order to entertain and distract the plebs, while the usual parochial components of the system are safe on their seats. Shame on you, really… you are just really getting what you do deserve.

They should just they lost on purpose as a political protest to Qatar.

26 years came out in 96. I cringe when they sing it now. Makes us the laughing stock.
Jeez. Thought maybe 20.
It’s fun though. Just people having a laugh. I realise some England fans are nobs but #notallenglandfans

Honestly it's class, I've never seen a song rile up so many countries so easily  If Russia vs Ukraine doesn't start WW3 then "It's coming home" in Qatar will.

Yeah its only a song if you dont win.
 well yeah it is actually factual, but it’s also a pisstake. So odd how people are wound up about it, but interesting it’s only happened recently, at a time when everyone wants to shit on everything.

But yeah it’s still only a song and still only people having a laugh at football, like it should be.

Juve monopolizing Seria A is damaging the league, not some conspiracy theories about how everyone wants to punish the Old Lady. Plus some other exogenous factors (financial crisis). But Juve fans should start questioning the attitude of their chairman who considers Atalanta unworthy and is ready to create a European Super League, before blaming everything on a witch hunt.

Imagine being annoyed at football fans in Sicily celebrating an Italian euros win.

Ahhh England fans. Never change.

Call me if you need to chat, pal.

Cheers buckaroo :). I'll let you know. For now I am just delighted that England fans have gone back to their usual bravado.

Always makes the inevitable collapse all the more sweet :D

Wow, that's an original take! Nobody in the thread has said that. Nice one!
OMG they celebrated in Sicily after winning a European Championship?

Pricks. I can absolutely see why there is a need here for English fans to forego their famed gentelmanly behaviour and give it large here. After all, it's not like England fans have been singing about football "coming home" (incorrectly) for the past half century     .

Bring back the euros forum pleeeeaase.
Ah wait, sorry, you said it before. It was probably more effective the first time but you can probably use the same gag a few more times before anyone else notices if you want!

I fancied Portugal to smash Italy anyway tbh. When you can't even beat Northern Ireland to guarantee automatic qualification then you don't really deserve to be there.

Portugal's team is actually incredible on paper at least and IMO a dark horse for the whole thing in the winter. Ronaldo is past it but can still be a match winner at any given moment and guys like Cancelo, Jota, Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias and Bruno Fernandes are all world class players playing the best stuff of their careers so far then you add in the Moutinho's, Leao, Mendes, Carvalho's et al and you've got a really strong team there.

Italy need to go away and do a proper rebuild from the bottom up a la Germany, Netherlands, Spain and even England. It's been decades now since Italy had a proper top striker to call upon. Add that to playing two uncreative midfielders like Jorginho and Verratti together and it's a recipe for disaster.

The Euro's was a bit of a perfect storm. They had an easy group with all home games and then fluked their way past Austria, faced the biggest underachievers in international football in the QF's then won a penalty shoot out v Spain and England.

England actually have a decent team. They may or may not win world cup (and let's face it, they probably won't) but the hyperbole and derision thrown towards England fans rather that the England squad is a telling sign of progress!

That just makes you the international version of Arsenal. Their fans immediately become unbearable when they're even halfway decent as well.

You can say the same for utd fans. The moment we become slightly relevant again, expect most to come out of their caves.

I think it's most telling that in a thread that's supposed to make fun of Italians (and was created by an English poster?!) we had zero complaints from the Italians, but countless English fans close to tears. Some can take the banter, some just don't. It's sad.

Wait a minute, hold the phone.....

You're telling me that on a thread made on a forum about an English team, inhabited by a huge number of fans from England and very few from Italy.....that there are more comments from the English than the Italians?

I know right, imagine defending the team you support. I know it's an alien concept on this forum, but just imagine.

There's barely any Italians on here, it's not people "defending their team". It's just the usual "ABE"s jumping on the hate bandwagon.

I swear nowadays a lot of people don't actually support any team, they just hate a number of teams.

And the one that did had a meltdown

Also, if there's one way to get a bunch of football fans to keep singing something, it's to tell them you don't like hearing it.

So that's why Chelsea only have one song?

"Tell me you've never been to a game without telling me you've never been to a game".

Sure I have. I'd also be allowed to go again if I fancied it without anybody having to amend any government licenses. :wenger:

I think you need to read my post again.

I think you need to read my post again.

I've read your post.

Its gotten zero complaints from the Italians (which is not true anyway) because there are literally about 3 Italians on here. If there were hundreds of Italians posting on the forum, I'm sure there would be more 'complaints'.

Similarly, if there were 3 English fans, I'm sure there would be little to no 'crying' from England fans because there the numbers aren't there to cry in the first place.

That's just your personal assumption, isn't it? And if we're seeing this kind of reaction in a thread that's aimed against the Italians, who knows what kind of scenes we would see in a thread that's actually about England.

Still smarting from the Euros exit huh? It's OK, the WC will give you another bite at the cherry.

Is this going to be like that time England beat Germany in a friendly some 20 years ago that you guys still go on about? If it doesn't amount to anything why would anyone care? So small time. So sad.

Its my assumption that there are very few Italians on here? And that there are more English fans than there are Italians on here? Or that the more there are of a nationality on here, the more they're likely to post and the wider range of views we're likely to see from said group?

Its also my assumption that there are more English than Gabonese on here, don't think its the wildest assumption either.

We've seen literally that exact same thread. It was called the entire Euros thread and then a thread specifically aimed at laughing at England after the final loss. Its also, from a very quick search now, a thread thats popped up repeatedly over the years.

Small time is being a German, Dortmund fan that spends his time on a Manchester United forum antagonizing English fans. Now THAT'S small time!

That question was rhetorical, I still remember the last iteration of that thread and that it had to be closed because a lot of English members completely lost it.

And I questioned your assumption that there are "about 3" Italians on here. Because we don't know where users come from or who they support, unless they choose to tell us.

I'm just having a chat about the Italy game in the general football section. I don't understand why you are so determined to "come at me" as a person.

So you're not being deliberately antagonistic?

Step one: England fans being obnoxious, plastering everything with "It's coming home"
Step two: "It's just banter you idiot, it's part of the game"
Step three: someone makes fun of England
Step four: "oh my god did you see what they said against England? Some of them even celebrated their victory, despite it being a heart break for England! Totally out of line. I hate them now."

I think the real hero of this story is Jogi Löw, for sacrificing himself and donating three points to the North Macedonians, getting them through to the playoffs and giving them the confidence to beat Italy.
You just don't understand the self-deprecatortory irony, because you're an anti-England fan.
Well to be fair it wasn't just Italy celebrating, more like the entirety of Europe, so it's not entirely fair to hold that against the Italians.
Just 'having a chat'?! Hmm. As for me 'coming at you' as a person, you're the one that called me small time! I just responded.
