In my opinion anyway.

I never used to rate him much. Thought he was no more than OK but he's come on quite dramatically in the last 8 months or so. He impressed me at for the U21's in the Summer, he's impressed me in the senior side and so far for Villa this season he's impressed me too.

He's really stepped up a notch since he left Newcastle. I think he is at the right club now - suits his talent.

I agree,he has come on loads since his permanent move to Villa.I would be happy to have him at Utd and I think he would do well.

I think he's better than Villa and will move on sooner rather than later.

I think he's roughly at the level he belongs. Of course that depends on if you'r talking about first XI or squad player. You could replace Park/Babel/Eboue/Malouda in the squads of the top 4 but then I think you could do that with a few prem players.

Agreed.

Of the big four though he'd probably have the best chance to break into your starting XI.

I have also been impressed with him - seems to have edged ahead of his team mate Ashley Young in the England pecking order as well

I'd much rather have Ashley Young to be honest, although I don't think either are a big enough improvement to warrant paying the money for them.

Ashley Young has the potential to start for any of the top four, Milner has the potential to be a very useful squad player.

I'd take Milner over Ashley Young any day to be honest.

Me too.

Young has been very poor today.

He's been poor so far this season really.

He is good enough for the top 4 if you are hoping to achieve anti-football.

Modric.

I'd take Milner over Young easily. Young doesnt seem to perform well under pressure or when the spotlight is on him whereas Milner thrives on it.

Nah i disagree. Milner is already technically the better player imo and is a year younger too. If Young had Milner's pace he'd still be in teh Championship.

He's not United quality

And I'd still rather have Beckham play right side for England than Milner

He just doesn't have the pace for me to be a real top winger. And the rest of his game isn't good enough to make up for that. He's a good player but no more

Technically better? In what sense?

Young's a better dribbler and crosser and has a better first touch, neither of them are particularly good passers and I don't really see a lot more to technique.

Milner's probably the more intelligent player, but even then he can act like a headless chicken a lot of the time.

Villa fans see it differently, I just think that Milner would be better suited to a CM role eventually.

I thought he was rubbish today.

Yeh he wasnt great. Was probably Villa's best player though.

I disagree on most of that to be honest. I rate Milner's delivery higher, especially from a moving ball. Milner's also a much better striker of a ball and is miles more intelligent. Yes he can act like a headless chicken when he's trying to work his sack off and get the ball back for his team.

Young is a better dribbler but only because of his pace, his close control is average.

He's become better than an "average winger." Both him and Aaron Lennon have improved by quite a bit in the past year or so.

He's a good player. A more effective player than Ashley Young.

Disappointing player, looked very good when he first broke through at Leeds. Average PL winger these days.

And that was my exact view this time last year. He's come on leaps and bounds since then.

I think he's a quality player, very versatile in position & will work his socks off every game. Reminds me of Rooney in some aspects of the work ethic & strength. He has a great cross on him too.

Spot on.

This time last week a lot of you tards were beating off about Young. Now it's Milner, next week let me guess Aghbonlahor?

Definitely, there are far less talented players in the top four, so if Milner was brought through the ranks say at Liverpool I'm sure he would've been used here and there (wing, full-back, midfield etc).

I'd rather have him at United as a utility/midfield player for £2 mill than have to splash out on £15 mil+ on a mediocre winger like Ashley Young.

Am dissapointed however in that he hasn't really become a really top level player seeing as he broke through same time as Wayne and always showed great technical ability.

He hasn't got enough technically for his lack of pace to be good enough for a top 4 team and i wouldn't have him over Malouda or Park.

He's not top 4 first XI quality.

I think a lot of people are getting wrapped up thinking of a traditional attacking winger and then deciding that Milner couldn't start for a top 4 club.

Is he worse than Park? Look at the games Park was chosen to start last season - pretty much every big game against top class opposition.

What's the point in comparing him to Young? They're different players. A good squad needs both of them - same as how SAF enjoys having players like Giggs and Nani on the one hand, and Park to balance out the squad.

Milner has suddenly gone from being completely underrated on the Caf to now being slightly overrated, pretty much overnight.

Suppose that's a fair point Baldwin. Milner isn't a typical winger in that sense and he is quite generally consistent.

Even if he is having an off day he'll work his socks off and still provide something to the team in the same way Rooney can do when he is off his game. Consistency is something which seems to be very much a requirement from midfeld in the modern game which is why Park would often start ahead of the more flashy Nani.

He is top 4 material when you look at some of the average squad players in the top 4, like Eboue/Lucas etc, but is he good enough to start for any of the top 4 teams? No.
