I'm not suggesting that Rogan isn't left-leaning(by American standards, mind you). I've just noticed how often he's felt the need to stress this fact

What makes Burr so brilliant (apart from being hilarious) is how willing he is to admit he’s clueless about stuff. Other comedians always come from a position of thinking they know more than other people. Bill Burr thrives on knowing less.

It's clearly a bit more than that. Rogan really thinks he's proper macho and wants to push Burr into the conversation. Look at his smug little face when he says "no let's talk about it."
He's incredibly irresponsible, at best.
Saw a post in that Reddit thread saying Rogan is what happens when you mistake having questions for being intellectual.
He's been friends with Bill Burr for donkeys years and this isn't the first time he's had old billy redface give him a roasting. He knows a Burr rant is gold!
I watched the whole thing, even though I'm done with Joe Rogan at this stage, just to hear Bill Burr talk shite for 3 hours. He's funnier just ranting about stuff than when doing standup these days. So self aware, and happy to say he's talking complete shit as well. People seem to be overthinking that clip though, they are 2 good friends who were just waffling for the whole thing.
Oh absolutely, it's a bit of a wind up. It isn't malicious and it never gets close to anyone getting angry. But it is a conversation about a serious issue and Burr knows that.
That's what makes him great. He gets his message across, even if he's taking the piss.
He's the best for sure.
The best thing about Burr is that his comedy has firm groundings in truth and honesty. Yes he was joking with a friend, but there’s also the fact he’ll never let dumb shit fly around in the air without hitting it.
He’s also unequivocally, and universally accepted as, a top tier stand up.
Joe never has been. He’s a loved American stand up. But he’d have remained a club comic if he hadn’t been famous for other shit. Huge draw in the states, but he’s the least funny of all his comedic guests. Other than Shaub. He’s smart enough to know this too.
Do people sit around and watch/listen to these episodes in their entirety every week? Seems like a huge investment of time, to me. The snippets and highlights that go viral would be enough for me.
I have listened to full episodes in the past depending on who is on. Was good when I was travelling more often. I haven’t listened to a full one in a while. Done with Joe Rogan. A shame because when he had good guests on I have really enjoyed some episodes. But the Bill Burr one, I found myself only half listening, because Rogan was ruining it. How do you ruin Bill Burr!!
Also Joey Diaz is a really good story teller. The only one of Rogan’s “regulars” I’d spend any time with. Bryan, Brendan, and Eddie are insufferable bullshitters.
I only listen when he has an interesting guest: a scientist or a relevant public figure (Bernie/Dr Cornel West/Killer Mike, etc). There’s also this one guy that knows all kinds of stuff about Mexican cartels.
Podcasts can be decent background noise for me when working. I work from home and they don't take much concentration it is easy background listening. Do quite a bit of driving for work to and listen then as I'd rather that than the radio but yeah I dont think I'd sit down watching it on YouTube in one big three hour sitting the audio is enough
Just full ones when there are interesting people on, or good comedians like Bill Burr. Nikki Glaser ones are good for just 'chatting shit' type stuff.
That's why he's one of my favorites as well. Even in his early days (early to mid noughties) when he was a semi-regular guest on Opie & Anthony's radio show, he was one of the handfuls alongside comedians like Patrice O'Neal and Colin Quinn that would give them sh*t on their bs while still being hilarious. Others would just cower to them as their gigs in the east coast depended on those radio shows.
I still find myself listening to these all the time. They’re better than any new shows or podcasts out there. feck you and feck the liberty bell.

People overthink Joe Rogan in general. Stoned bloke who has some very interesting guests on waffling for x number of hours. Thats all it is. Sometimes he'll say something stupid, like we all do all the time. Bill gave him some stick in that clip, and he wasn't offended, he seemed to find it hilarious. He doesn't seem to take himself that seriously at all.
Yeah I think he's just a jock of average intelligence who ultimately means well most of the time, he has some stupid opinions but seems like the kind of person that would always be open to someone more knowledgeable changing his view on something. My main issue with him is that he has such a large audience that he needs to consider who he has on his show, and how he interviews them, because he has massive influence to a large number of younger white men who can fall into crap attitudes far easier than most demographics, seemingly.

I'm most of the way through it. I am enjoying it, although Joe has been a little frustrating for me. Like when Bret was making the wider point of how the public are so positive Derek Chauvin has murdered George Floyd but we know that in a court of law there's always a chance based on different factors that he could possibly make it out of this and what that might mean for unrest in America, and Joe just banged on about how 'no no, I am an expert and his knee was on his neck'... We know Joe, he's making a wider point. Stop it. Think it's about an hour in and goes on for 15 or so minutes.
Also I do think Bret is a bit wrapped up in his own intelligence. Just a bit of ever so slightly patronizing little quips along the lines of 'are you still following?' and 'am I making sense?' and 'this might not make sense at first but I will tie it back at the end okay?'. I do still like him though and he is nowhere near as bad for it as his brother Eric who is just in a constant state of glee at how smart he is.
Hah, yes. Watch the Nick Bostrom one where he tries to explain the possibilty of us being in a simulation and Joe not getting it.
The cancel STEM stuff abit scary. Some of these people, Bret/Eric/etc, don't see a very happy ending to all this chaos
It doesn’t help that he’s stoned out of his gourd half the time. It’s actually quite impressive how well he holds it together but I’m sure that the shows when he’s most formulaic, repetitive and less able to listen properly are the shows when he’s most binned. Obviously, he’d be in complete denial about this.
Yeah I have no idea how he can even operate half the time when he's smoking that strength of weed.
Sometimes I feel as if he's one of those dudes who feels they're enlightened and always correct, and he has to tell you his way of thinking and persuade you into it.
He chooses viewership and $ over what’s right and True. He’s a ghoul nowadays.
He doesn’t smoke lots of strong weed. He doesn’t do DMT. He doesn’t do Shrooms yearly. He’s never done Acid more than once and has never tried Ketamine.
He believes he’s done all of those enough. Which is fine. But he paints himself as a psychonaut. He’s not. He’s a charlatan.
He’s on the wrong end of the bell curve in terms of how interesting he is.
He’s just a normal dude. He had a thirst for knowledge. Now he thinks he’s educated. Which limits how good his conversations are with people.
He shuts people down because he thinks he knows better. He never used to do that. He has turned in to everything he hated about celebrity radio.
It’s all about the $. He’s socially liberal but believes Capitalism is good enough that we shouldn’t change the economic system. He sees large values come in and he prizes that above almost all things.
I used to love the podcast. He’s a cartoon now. It’s a real shame.
Its funny i was listening to episode 215 or so a couple of months ago and he basically said burn it down, its beyond saving. Completely dismissive of that attitude now, won't even entertain the idea
