Johnny Evans WBA player of the season

If Arsenal sign him he'll be,
The next Rio Ferdinand, not used properly by United.

Last time the Henry mkII went to Arsenal, we found the next Welbeck in our youth team. Maybe this time, the next Evans will step up and solve our CB problem

Agreed, I'd be gutted to see him go to Arsenal.

Ditto. A promising United career wrecked by an utter calamity of a manager and his ludicrous obsession with a back five. Has been an excellent for WBA and would be gutting to see another one or our academy's best products end up at Arsenal.

The worst performance from a central defender I ever remember came from Evans v West Ham away in the league cup (lost 4-0) and if I had to think of a second it would probably be Evans again away to MK Dons

He's found his level

Evans is average. Good with the ball at his feet, average defender.

Let's move on.

Hope he doesn't make me eat my words at Arsenal though, good luck to the lad. I like him - just isn't good enough in my opinion.

Good pro and had some fairly decent spells for us but I wouldn't bat an eyelid if he went there. In fact, I'd far rather that than them sign someone absolutely top class.

Agree with those who say he's a better option than Rojo but that's more of an indictment of him than a reflection of Evans' quality.

Decent player but no more.

Torn apart by Carlton Cole and Will Grigg. Bad memories!

Not everything was LVG's fault. He has to take some responsibility for his own performances and to be fair, he did that in a recent interview.

I also always remember a pre season game away to Rangers where I say Evans play for the first time (pretty sure he scored as well) and I remember not being arsed when Pique left because we had Evans coming through... Look how that turned out :(

This is how I feel. Marginal upgrade on Mertesaker but isn't as good as Koscielny. He's also fairly injury prone.
Decent player but Arsenal fans are not keen, which says it all.

How has Evans' injury record been for WBA?

What a load of rubbish. Nothing against Evans but Ferdinand was one of the best defenders in the world at his pomp. Are you really saying Evans is in that category?

It was a joke. Arsenal fans thought Welbeck was shite when he was here. When they sign him, he suddenly becomes this world class potential.

Gotcha.

I know he's missed a lot of games through injury.

He missed four league games over February and March with a hamstring injury. He started 30 out of a possible 34 for them though, so that's not bad.

Aaaaah. So he is the same old J.Evans.

One of the reasons why he was sold was because he could string enough games together, to gain some form.
Everytime, he played a few good games, he'd get injured. Then when he returned, he needed another few games to gain form.

I think this best spell was a few years ago (I think with Vidic). He had no injuries, got a good run and played very well.
Injuries were his problem.

He's been very good when he as played for them. I live in Birmingham and he West Brok fans rate him very highly.

Harsh. He played 30 league games last season.

He played a lot of games for West Brom. He occasionally comes off early in games - normally around the 60-70 minute mark, but Pulis is managing him well. They're a pretty defensive side, but it's clear he's their best player.

Agreed. He showed quality st the club, but not enough to hammer down a spot. Arsenal's style and poor defensive culture would flatter him a bit. His ability on the ball would work out well there. He'd be a one eyed king in the land of the blind in possessing some defensive instict. He'd look decent to good, but over the course of a season won't look like the player we hoped he'd become.

This is why taking a punt on Rojo made sense at the time. Evans seemed to be regressing after having plateaued.

If he wasn't a good defender Pulis wouldn't have bought him - it's not like he prioritises being good on the ball. Some people just didn't warm to him because they want every defender to be a hard man like Vidic. Evans reads the game very well. His main issue was his inability to stay fit.

High quality player and just what Arsenal need. I hope they don't buy him.

I actually prefer the Nesta/Ferdinand type of defender to the Vidic type. Evans simply wasn't good enough for Man Utd, just as Jones and Rojo aren't in my opinion.

I also think he didn't suit playing a high defensive line. He has been v good for WBA and was brilliant for NI in the euros, both who sit deep.

I prefer ball playing defenders. Evans problem was that he made too many defensive mistakes. Nothing else.
We have seen players improve away from the pressure and scrutiny of Man Utd. Happens all the time.
