It is interesting isn't it. Fergie's never would have signed a European Cup tied player in January. I think that Ferguson would have deemed Mata too slow for United as well. Martin Ferguson scouted Isco as too slow for us.

It really seems that Moyes is a bit of a muppet. I never thought that we would see the days under the Glazer's where we signed world class players for mega fees.

I guess the worry now is if Moyes will use Mata in the way that we all know that he should.

Would Chelsea have still sold us Mata if we were title challenging?

I don't think so.

Maybe the only positive of doing kinda shit this season.
Exactly! Moyes is a great tactition after all.

Really didn't believe this. Fantastic and most of all this a signing of style!!

Now it seems he's signing we might see the end of the awful puns. That would be sweet.

That's one of the funniest gifs I've ever seen. Can't stop laughing.

Scholes played behind Ruud for a period early in the 00's. Finished with a good goal tally too. He was over 25 by then.

That was one season though. Mata has never played central midfield from what I can tell.

Thank feck this is official, I have been feeling sick with the thought that we wouldn't sign him.

I feel it important to remind you all that Juan Mata in English means John Kills. I love a bit of Johnny Kills myself.

That's it, this makes me fully support United in England! You've signed a fellow Asturiano that came through the ranks of Madrid and one who shares the same first name as me nonetheless!

I hope he does great for you guys and helps you secure that important 4th spot.

Congrats!

There can be only Juan.

YOU'RE THE JUAN THAT I WANT, THE JUAN THAT I WANT, OH OH OH HONEY!

Just think of all that gloating the Chelsea fans gave us over Rooney. Making signs, taunts on message boards, singing his name. Little did they know the next transfer between the clubs would be us swooping in to purchase their last season player of the year.

Question may have been asked, but any idea why we waited until after NYSE closed to make announcement? It was done literally minutes after it closed for the weekend. .. what's the benefit to us in that?

Generally anytime a company has big news it has to disclose, it will wait until Friday night after the markets close so that the news can be fully digested over the weekend and no snap decisions get made. Around 90% of shares traded worldwide are done by algorithms. So if investors get slightly panicked by a disclosure it can have a knock on effect when they want out, the algorithms pick up on it and the problem exacerbates. It also allows for the company to do some decent pr over the weekend justifying any decisions/outcomes.

Traditionally this is reserved for bad news - profit warnings, unfavourable trading updates etc. but the same principle applies to good news; volatility is never a good thing.

And whilst we all think this is great news, shareholders might not (non-football fans, just interested in making money from their investment).

Apologies for this rather dry response when the correct post in the thread should be "feck yeah", but you asked....

Last 2* seasons. What a coup, an absolute brilliant coup.

The way he plays there's no reason why he can't remain on top of his game until 33, at least. That'll be seven and a half years worth, if it pans out that way.
