If we get RvP and Rooney back, and kept healthy, and if Evra finds himself some form(hard to blame, ran into the dirt), I'd fear nothing. Young and Valencia remembering the footballers they were 2-3 years ago would also be a nice treat.

Yep, I think with Mata settling in quick and a fit and ready R&R the rest of the team will settle down. I think we will push for 4th until the last day. If we can win at Arsenal which we can do and beat Liverpool and City at home I can see us getting there. Everton and Arsenal will be our toughest games away.

Berbatov, Veron, Tevez, Rooney were all very exciting at the time. Ruud and Ronaldo less so since we knew less about them at the top level.

I wanted us to sign him when he was at Valencia. Instead we went with Young.
Oh well, better late than never.

Everton and Arsenal are the ones. If we take them, I'd imagine 4th would be comfortable.

I wonder though, if Chelsea, Arsenal and City can keep their form for the rest of the season, odds are that at least one of them will have at least some kind of stumble. If one of them has a significant one, everything opens up nicely again.

Has a United signing ever been so universally praised before?

Even RVP had his doubters over whether we really needed him, me included at the time.

Ronaldo possibly? That friendly game certainly made me cream myself at the prospect.

Really? he was an unknown quantity then. I would say since RVP and before that Berbatov
I never got excited for Berba, he was never on Rooney or Tevez's level for me. RVP came out of nowhere for me as I was focused in the Hazard and then Lucas Moura threads  The most exciting transfer in recent times was probably De Gea to be honest, I always wanted us to sign him to replace VDS and knew he'd turn into one of the best keepers in the world.

Arguably the most creative player in Chelsea and probably one of not many players who can be compared to likes of Iniesta.

Can't believe it's January window.

He'd been out injured for a year and some were unsure about him as that can raise questions. He signed the same summer as Veron and I remember thinking Veron was the key signing. Ha.

Yeah I remember him getting injured, wasn't it during his first medical?

I'm as excited as I was when we signed Van Persie, Berbatov, Nani, Anderson, Rooney, Ronaldo, Van Nistelrooy and Veron.

This just doesn't happen for us United fans!

We didn't really need what van Persie or Berbatov had to offer as much as we need someone like Mata in the team.

I was thinking about Ronaldo's signing in retrospect, not the level of excitement at the time of his signing.

Welcome Juan. Went to bed as soon as Jose announced he was off and woke up to the official news, great positive move from the club and lets hope it really gives us that boost we need for the top 4.

This isn't universally praised even. For some reason people (including United supporters) have been criticising it.

Every signing has two sides to it but when you bring in world class, that's really the only argument that has any grounds. Any team is better with Mata in it.

Thank God. We have a proper cover for Valencia now

Valencia is going to be baffled at his novelty of using both feet. And passing. And crossing. And getting past someone by not running fast.

We really needed a pick me up and the timing of signing a player like Mata is just perfect.

Great News! Delighted to have him at the club. With Rumours of Wayne renewing and a bid for Shaw this could be an exciting month, results so far aside.

Let's hope the players are boosted by this recent optimism about the club and start showing it on the pitch. Adding one of the countries top young full backs along with a genuine world class talent is a huge boost for moral and more importantly a huge boost on the playing field. Add that to the imminent return of our two current best players and there is cause for great optimism for the rest of this season. Even if the prospect of silverware is practically nil.

Finally. Redcafe for ages has been craving for a Spanish midfielder. Now we can all look forward to seeing the next Spanish squad and seeing Manchester United next to a players name. It's been a long time coming.

Seriously does anyone else think he looks like he could be Rooneys better looking brother with hair?
