No. Diving pisses people off as its cheating and annoys true sports fans, but nothing else.

Nasty tackles with deliberate intent to injure will always be disliked by vast majority of fans but it seems like you're implying that (1) there was intent and (2) United fans trivialise nasty tackles if they're on Liverpool players.

There will always be hard but fair tackles that cause injuries.... That's unfortunate, but that's sport and this looked like one of them. I'm pretty sure that if there's a deliberately nasty tackle on a Liverpool player and it causes a bad injury, most United fans will at least acknowledge the bad tackle... whoever the injured player plays for. For example, I know a lot of United fans and none of them think Keanes tackle on Haaland was a good thing or "justice"... they think it was dickish.

I fecking love Klopp. He's no saint, but he's funny, he's charming and he talks sh** sometimes just like every other manager. I loved to see Fergie rile up Benitez as well, even though I was on Benitez side most of the time. Be happy we have these managers in the game who give something of themselves. I love when he gets the crowd going.

I don't know what being media friendly has to do with officials who are exempt from answering to the media.

Klopp regularly acts hostile towards officials but plays it off and they fall for it. I don't know Klopp personally, so I can't say if he's manipulating them or he's just being himself.

Or when a team is built with a strong identity and is consistent in what it tries to do, it's easier to fit in and become another efficient cog in the machine. We used to do that when we made the likes of Anderson, Park, Smalling, Valencia and plenty others look like very good performers. It's true that players can help a team play well but it's just as important that the team help the players.

I think it's a British, American and Scandinavian think in my experience at least. I always see how Americans who never follow football comment on that every 4 years during the world cup. I think it has to do with the definition of machismo in those cultures where showing pain or weakness or even emotions in some cases, is not looked upon to be very "manly". Hockey and rugby are also big in those places, two sports characterized by their physicality and masculinity. The idea that it's the cheating part of diving that offends people however is quite frankly very suspect when you consider how many acts of cheating go on in every game with no one batting an eye.
 
Tables really have turned. Liverpool are now the ones with the better manager who are playing exciting and effective football.

It's the circle of life, but unfortunately for Liverpool their rise from mediocrity coincides with City juggernaut.

To be fair, United and Liverpool are England's 2 greatest clubs, so we take turns being above one another. We were superior in the 50s and 60s, Liverpool were superior in the 70s and 80s, then we were better in the 90s and 00s, and on balance this decade too. They're currently better which should come as no surprise given their focused direction and wise investment over the past 3 years.

It also is the thing that keeps me optimistic. Truth be told we have no sunk nowhere near as low as they have in past years and at least commercially and financially have a huge leg up over them. In other words-if they can recover the way they have, we have no excuses regardless of what Mou whines about. I know it's Pool but I'd rather see them do well than Shitty or Chelski any day of the week. *gasp*

Still need to win stuff though. Nobody is going to remember all this pretty great football if they haven’t won anything.

And no I wouldn’t want to see Liverpool do better than Chelsea or Man City. I don’t want Liverpool getting close to our title record.

We are not on balance since we have won 2 PL titles so far, and they've won nothing.

They have infinitely better and more competent owners though. Until Klopp came, they were constrained by managerial incompetence which reflected badly on them as well. Now, they are showing their smarts.

You see Linda Pizzuti interact with fans on Twitter, it's clear they are invested in the success of the club. Can't imagine Ed or the Glazers doing such a thing. The problem is, even if Jose leaves, we are stuck with the Glazers which makes all our commercial power useless.

Eh? United have won two league titles, an FA Cup, a Europa League and a League Cup this decade, while Liverpool have won a single league cup. They've also finished ahead of United in the league just twice this decade.

Liverpool are better this season, but they certainly haven't edged the decade, and won't come close until they actually win something.

Well yes, that goes without saying. But I'd say that Klopp can only really be judged on what does at Liverpool from this season onwards, as this is very much his side now. It's all very well people saying that Liverpool have only won 1 League Cup in over a decade, but Jurgen Klopp is only into his 4th year so he can't carry the can for the lack of success prior to his arrival. The players he inherited were not good enough to even qualify for a top 4 spot let alone win a major trophy. Then add in the loss of our best player - Coutinho - to Barcelona, & you have a situation whereby it takes a very special kind of manager to get us to where we are now, & in such a short space of time. Not forgetting also that whilst building this squad of players we got to 3 cup finals where we lost to 3 very good sides. So the way I see things at the moment, it's quite possible we may not win anything this season too. But so long as we have Klopp as our manager, then I'd bet my house he'll put some significant silverware in our trophy cabinet before he calls it a day.

I think so too. He did an excellent job in revamping the squad. Sold Coutinho and some other deadwood like Benteke, financed his new transfers with that money and made you a much better team (from basically a mid-table team to top 4). This is basically the first season where you actually really invested in your squad (Keita, Fabinho, Alisson) and when Klopp is pushing for more (top 2, maybe even the league). I still think that Pep is superior given unlimited funds, but Klopp is probably the best there is when working on a comparably limited budget.

Its very true the next step now he’s got his team, is silverware

But his 1st season with a team near enough full of his signings, sitting top of the league above a City team that looks unstoppable (almost) and through to the CL last 16.....

I don't doubt that Jose being shite doesn't help in the slightest, but all 3 are strange players too. Two especially seem to have poor attitudes and one is just poor at football.
 
klopp is a perfect fit for real madrid, as long as he gets some time to build the team that he wants. Also for psg, as the title is easy to win, however much better chances with klopp to win the CL.

He's pretty unproven for a club full of superstars and difficult characters. I think the likes of Ibrahimovic would get along with him very well, but someone like Neymar, don't know really. Think the perfect big club for him, ironically, would have been United after SAF, similar history/fanbase to Liverpool that would also require a huge rebuilding job, known for playing high paced football during the SAF era, but with superior financial support.
 
Don't think anyone else could have the results he has with Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum in midfield, maybe Simeone. 6 goals conceded almost halfway through the season with Robertson, Matip, Alex-Arnold level talents in defense is equally outrageous. His next club should be an elite one like Barca and Madrid. Turning the likes of Dortmund and Liverpool into "almost winners" shouldn't be his ceiling.

Yeah agreed, that's exactly what I tried to say in my post but the "on balance" sentence was a clunky run on and probably misrepresented what i was trying to say (it was late up and I was tired). When you look at the balance of results this decade, we are better because of our 2 leagues and other trophies.

Van Dijk? Absolutely world class, 90% of the credit for their defensive solidity goes to him. And Alisson being a competent GK is a factor too.

And Milner is not average. He is very much above average, one of the best midfielders in the league.

Yeah, Klopp has done a good job, but let's not eliminate his big money buys who are a part of their success just to hype his managerial skills. It's the right mix of above average to borderline world class players + average players that Klopp is getting the best out of.

Milner is massively underrated. He's actually a good player. Was excellent for Villa, great for City, and very good for Liverpool. He would improve our squad.

When people lump him in with Henderson it irritates me. Milner is vastly superior.
 
The level he's helped Wijnaldum achieved is nothing short of spectacular in my opinion. Wijnaldum was a fine player at Feyenoord and PSV, but he was never going to cut it at PL subtop team Liverpool. Now Pool elevated themselves to the top of the league and he's actually a vital part of it. Never would have thought he'd go that far.

Honestly have to say I'm chuffed for the guy, because he's a genuinely nice lad. Even if he plays for pool.

Yeah, guys like Wijnaldum and Milner are like the unsung heroes of our team. Hard workers and great at recycling the ball. We could do with a creative spark in midfield, though, as none of our current ones are particularly good at attacking. Granted, Shaqiri may develop into one, but I'd still like a Fekir kind of signing.
