La Liga 2013-2014

Barça escape! Málaga hit the post after a fine move, great pass by Fabrice.

Schuster going for broke, bringing on Seba Fernández and Pedro Morales.

Neymar forcing a good save from Willy with a free-kick he won himself.

You can see how Neymar has injected some directness and pace into Barça's attack, but he isn't precise enough yet... needs more match rhythm.

To be honest I'm still not that impressed with him.. I mean I know he's a good player, and he did a few good things already, but with that price tag, you tend to expect a bit more.. May be he needs some time.

True, but like I said he needs rhythm, hasn't even started a game yet (not even in pre-season I think). His goal against Atlético in the Supercopa was nice enough, and he just had a couple of good runs with and without the ball. Him and Messi on the same pitch should be fireworks IMO.

Málaga finishing the stronger, they should have scored just now. Good save from Valdés but it was straight at him, twice. Tissone been impressive defensively, just couldn't do enough there to score.

Really good game by Málaga, just so unlucky in the final third. They deserved a draw at least IMO.

Poor game by Barca but still they got 3 points and a clean sheet. Neymar was good when he came in. Sanchez should have had 8 red cards for his whining in every referees decisions or tackle/foul by Malaga players.

Barcelona just about get away with the three points.. I guess they still need Messi.

Malaga should have nicked a point in the end..

Neymar making the run down the wing, and Messi finding him with the through pass. On paper that's a great combination, let's see how it works out in reality.

I think Neymar was their most creative player: he uses his trickery well and won them a lot of free kicks. His finishing wasn't so good, but he is usually spot on. I expect big things from him this season, especially if Messi could be in and out with a hamstring injury.

Willy Caballero has already looked far below his outstanding previous season, with some shaky interventions, but there've also been some excellent goalkeeping displays in La Liga so far... Celta's Yoel and Athletic debutant Herrerín with great performances, both keepers in the Madrid-Betis game were also excellent; but Miguel Ángel Moyà was just incredible in Getafe's 2-2 draw with Almería, as he made at least 2-3 world class stops to earn his side a draw.

Kiko Casilla (Espanyol) has also stood out, and produced this beauty of a save:

Mateu Lahoz is such a bizarre referee...

Terrible referee. At a minimum, two Malaga players should've been sent off but all the douchery beforehand that never even got a whistle let alone a booking is standard for several Primera referees. Credit to Cesc & Alexis not losing their heads because they were getting chopped down left & right. This, of course, is standard tactics from Schuster - don't think I've ever seen him coach a clean side

Willy couldn't have done much about that goal, not sure how some can ignore the obvious, he was blocked from the initial trajectory of the shot. He'd have had to have been telepathic to know where it was going, merely chance that he ended up near the final path of the shot. Adriano is a part time fullback, IMO,always ends up getting injured, and is really strong in one area - long distance shooting from either edge of the box, curling it in.

Cesc still on a roll although he seemed to disappear in the 2nd half but that 1st half was impressive play from him - clearly playing with a chip on his shoulder. Good for him, he needs to raise his game.

Neymar is going to be special, pretty confident of that, and I like how Tata & the club are bringing him along slowly

Marca announcing Casillas in the team and he was benched again. What a shit journal, with a shit agenda.

So a 1-0 win away to Granada then for Real Madrid (where they lost last season due to a Cristiano OG.), this time Benzema scored from a Cristiano "assist" which was actually a miscontrolling of an excellent Di María cross.

Granada were denied a quite blatant pen IMO, Casemiro making the challenge from behind on Buonanotte.

Overall very little being created by RM and the second game in a row that they only really deserved to draw IMO. Ancelotti so far not getting too much out of his offensive players, save for an excellent 20 mins or so in the 2nd half against Betis.

My mate tells me Diego Lopez was again good for Real. Not looking good for the crybaby that Casillas is.

Crybaby? I've only heard him praise Diego Lopez and talking about working hard. Haven't heard him making a claim that he owns the spot or anything of the sort. A lot of other players, managers and journalist are whining though.

Apparently, he did throw a strop before deciding to knuckle down.

Key word here. People seem to choose to believe what journos have to say. Much of it is such a bullshit, a lot of it is lost in translation and it's often "a friend of someone who has a cousin who's a janitor at the Bernabeau" or something like that.

It's like that for the same reason that we have gossip rags and TV channels like E!. Generally people buy into it and they do love to gossip.

So Ronaldo plays in the middle knowing he can't score that many goals on that position and so far Anceloti didn't change CR to his original position. They aren't going far on CL playing like that.

Ah man don't be boring us with your logic ;)

Too early in the season to be saying that.

Also, now that my veil of jealousy and loathing is now off after their thrashing by Bayern, I can see Barca are a really entertaining team to watch, and will likely be watching more of their games this season.

I can't even understand what happens here. He barely moves and then flies to the ground. Not even a real air-swing. Bizarre.

He's looking at the keeper not at the ball or his teammate. Benzema steps over it perfectly and Ronaldo looks like he's still thinking about his shopping list, and falls over trying to get his feet to work.

Oh yeah, happens to me with shopping lists all the time.

Messi and Neymar start for Barca against Atletico in the 2nd leg of the charty shield thing.

Courtois will keep a clear sheet.

Barcelona to score 2 and Courtiois to either mess up a cross or let in one he should have done better with, again

Is he doing that a lot? I've not seen much of Atletico this season.

Nah  but I have seen him do one of each so far this season. Still a brilliant young keeper, but it does my head in when I see all the posts bigging him up on here without mention of the mistakes he, and every young keeper make, like De Gea a year ago.
