La Liga 2013-2014

As far as statistics are concerned, we know that Messi has very few shots in a game. I have watched la liga for a fairly long time, and you have to admit that Messi either scores a goal or, he makes the goalkeeper work/hits the post. Very few of his shots actually go wide of the posts or over the bar. Suffice to say, as far as shot to goal conversion is concerned, he has to be the most effective of all footballers today. The actual statistic that is frightening is if he had scored from those shots on target. Something to ponder over.

Pedro's stats in his first season were incredible: he scored from 53% of his shots and over 80% were on target.

Didn't watch the Barca game, but what's this I'm reading about them having just 46% possession?! Have they ever had less then 50 in the last 5 years or so even??

Speaking of statistics. Rayo Vallecano had 51% possession tonight, the first team to have a possession advantage over Barcelona since Real Madrid in 2008. Not that it did Rayo any good of course.

Incidentally, the last three Rayo-Barca results are now 0-7, 0-5, 0-4 - so they're getting closer. :smirk:

Great finish by Diego Costa after an excellent first time through ball from Koke, who also assisted the first goal with a cross. 0-2 Atléti, away to Valladolid.

"Barcelona win 4-0, but lose possession for first time in 317 games - since 4-1 loss to Madrid in May, 2008."

5 goals and 1 assist for Diego Costa. I expect him to be one of the best players outside Real Madrid and Barcelona come the end of the season. He's doing really well thus far - long may it continue.

That's depressing on more levels than I can say.

I was with you up until then. I literally laughed out loud.

Not wrong. We had the ball against City 58,4% of the game and conceded twice from counter-attacks.

Arsenal play that way in Europe, not so much in the league.

A lively start in the Real - Getafe game. Getafe will pay for scoring early.

Depressing, but if you've watched him this season, then you will see how talented he is. I don't like his off the ball actions, I don't think anyone does, but I don't see what's depressing about what I said.

Depressing in the same way that Suarez is that good as well. We don't like bad people having success.

Nah, it's like Denis Wise getting 21 caps for England - depressing.

He'd never finish a game if I was the ref (or start one for that matter )

Leaving aside Diego Costa himself (which I would, gladly) the other depressing aspect is that there used to be much more competition for that "best outside the big two" award - people like Torres, Aguero, Villa etc.

And Ron makes it 2-1 from the spot.

What's with Spaniards and jumping in the wall with their hands in the air? Remember Cesc doing it twice for Arsenal. So stupid. Especially in Spain where they are very tough on handballs.

Excellent pen.

A good chance there for Getafe. Should have taken the shot. They remain dangerous on the counter.

Close from Benzema. Didn't hit it properly. Moya did well.
