La Liga 2013-2014

There's been a lot of posters on this board who've been bitter about Bale for a while who will stick the boot in at every opportunity.

I don't know how he ll do at real long term but there's a good chance he ll shut his critics up, just like when people were laughing at his losing streak, when man utd fans widely said that Nani was already better than Bale and his highest level was several levels above that of Bale's and those who said he didn't have the technical ability to play in Spain.
Amongst many others.

Fair play to him.

I am a Manchester United fan, but out of the two players you have mentioned; Nani and Bale, only one of those players has actually evolved, and unfortunately it isn't Nani. Bale has evolved so much that he can be considered a very important player.

I'll happily be the first to put my hand-up and admit to being wrong about Bale at Madrid. Yes most of their games are the footballing equivalent of shooting fish in a barrel, but I thought he'd freeze under the big lights of Madrid, and that the pressure of the ridiculous price-tag with his injuries wouldn't help him, but Bale has been pretty fantastic early on in the big time.

But now that Manucho is on we'll see some proper class

Nani was better than Bale in 2010/11. Careers have went a lot differently since then, Bale has got much better and Nani has stagnated.

it was obvious he was going to score a shitload of goals for RM...

1. it's Real Madrid
2. it's La Liga
3. Bale is a good player, with some serious fire power on him.

do the math

Yeah but as good as Nani was then, Bale has been much better than that or is now. Nani himself has actually never hit those heights again, so he has actually regressed since then

Yes, we could say that better players from England have played in La Liga, but none really have shone like Bale is doing at the moment. Scoring 10 goals in 14 games plus a nice load of assists to boot is not bad going for a player that was injured and had no real pre-season warm-up.

Edit: Make that 11 goals in 14 games. Hattrick for Bale.

It was questionable. If he was, it certainly wasn't the gulf in class that so many on here insisted it was at the time.

I know Glaston receives a lot of abuse on here anyway but he got a lot of abuse around that time for even daring to suggest Nani and Bale were on the same level. Nani was well on his way to Ronaldo like performances while Bale was always destined to be an average power and pace winger.

Shows how pointless predictions in football are really.

ronaldo?

That is what they used to say when Bale played as a left-back for Spurs. Couldn't win a game every time he played for Spurs as LB. As for the Nani v Bale debate, it is over to be honest. Bale is clearly better.

Don't think that's been a debate for the last 2 years. Bale's gotten better and Nani's regressed big time.

Modric MOTM tonight. What a player he is. If there's a Scholes replacement out there it's this guy but we've no chance because playing like that he should be one of the first names on the Madrid teamsheet.

Here he is  Still in denial?

Don't want to upset the cheerleaders, but lets be honest, it's 3 goals that were harder to miss. The last one in particular he jogs into the six yard box unmarked

I don't think those sorts of goals were what they paid the big bucks for so don't mind if I hang fire.

There are still a few around here who will still swear that Nani is the bees knees and superior to Bale. Over the last 2-3 years, Bale has gone from a natural left-back winning feck all, to a left winger who can play on the right and score absolute screamers. Nani just hits them out of the ground, in which case we should sign Johnny Wilkinson and sell Nani to the England rugby team.

Alexis has a habit of missing the sort of goals that Bale scored tonight. If we are devalueing the likes of Bale then, it doesn't really say much for the likes of Messi and Ronaldo. It could even be that you are trying to say that La Liga has got easier and easier with each passing season and the defending has been amateur-like.

I do admire you, keeping up this ridiculous charade for the past few years when you've been proved wrong time and again.

This does mean however first game back from injury Ronaldo will score at least 5 to put Bale back in his place.

Alexis has for the most part of his la liga career, been a horrendous finisher. Seen him miss from 6 yards out several times.

We all know Messi and Ronaldo are above the rest, but is there any really doubt the hugely inflated numbers are partly down to their teams overall strength compared with the opposition? I don't think so to be honest.

bit of a walter mitty aren't you? For being in the top tier of players I struggle to remember games Bale has changed against top sides. Probably because there aren't too many.

Apart from all the goals he's scored against the top sides in the premier league.

If you want a laugh, just do a search for any Gareth Bale thread since I don't know when, roughly around 2007, and you will read some hilarious stuff saying that he is not worth 10 million, or that Micah Richards/Adam Johnson are better than Bale...I have had to have surgery to repair my sides.

There's truth to this of course but Ronaldo and Messi have basically carried their goalscoring records to Europe over the past 3/4 years. 3/4 seasons in which they've won the CL once between them.

I've had the pleasure of reading, participating in and receiving abuse in (though nowhere near as much as Glaston) various Bale related topics over the short amount of time I've been on here. Seems to be a slightly prickly subject on here for some.

People seem to like under-rating him, in part I guess because he's seen as being an athletic player rather than a technical one and the last few years have been all about technical players (though of course, Bale actually does have a lot of technical ability).

Their teams are better than most in Europe too. A decade ago no way these two score the way they do now.

Are they the only 2 good teams in Europe? Cos not many other players have a 1 in 1 record in Europe for the past 3 seasons.

Which just shows that the gap between the few top teams and the 2nd tier teams in Europe is also increasing. More and more results in the group stages are really embarrassing for smaller teams and other forwards also put up crazy numbers, Gomez scored 8 in 8 games in 10/11 and 12 in 12 games in 11/12 for example, the two seasons in which he started for Bayern. We have now 2 players with 8 goals after 5 group stage games and as great as Ronaldo and Zlatan are, that's not only a reflection of their ability but a massive sign for the lack of competitiveness between the top clubs and the rest. There are 6 players with at least 5 goals after 5 CL games this season, that's very worrying, imo. Squad depth at top clubs has become a big joke and is really hurting the competitions. They would probably score less if they faced the reserve players of their own team instead of top teams from weaker leagues.

i didn't think it was that obvious. He can't dribble and i was expecting he would need to dribble a lot in La Liga. He ball control in tight spaces is also supcious. Yet he finds space and can carry on with his goal and assist feasts.

Kudos wheres it due

Very tough game for Barca tonight. I see them dropping points. Bilbao are playing quite well again this season.
