We had our 'give it a go' phase and while Cardiff was a nice break I still couldn't give a toss about this. It's Leeds, so I hope we give em a thrashing but this is definately one for the fringes.

Carroll
Gary/Phil Rio O'Shea Fortune
Fletcher Butt Djemba Richardson
Forlan Ronaldo

Let's see how that lot do.

Thing is, we don't have much in reserve so unless we were prepared to dust off the likes of McShane, Lynch or whoever we might as well play a half decent back-line.

Silv worry for Reds

MIKAEL Silvestre is a new injury worry for Manchester United - and he may miss next Saturday's Old Trafford clash with Portsmouth.

The French defender limped off at half time of Saturday's home defeat by Fulham with a knee injury, which was being assessed by the Reds' medical staff today.

He was due to be rested for tomorrow night's Carling Cup game at Leeds in any case, but manager Sir Alex Ferguson is concerned that he may be out for longer.

With Wes Brown injured and a possible ban hanging over Rio Ferdinand, United are hoping that tests today will reveal it is not serious.

The Reds will continue with midfield pair Nicky Butt and Eric Djemba-Djemba at Leeds as Fergie feels they need games under their belt.

Fergie plans to use fringe players

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that he plans to use the Carling Cup to keep some of his fringe players fit and ready for action.

In previous seasons Ferguson has selected a number of youth team players for the competition, but with the club's third round tie being against bitter rivals Leeds United he won't go that far this time.

"Nicky Butt, Eric Djemba-Djemba, David Bellion and Diego Forlan will all play," he told the club's official website.

"It will be a mix of that and the first-team squad, which is exactly the way we have always approached it. Roy Carroll will also play."

Leeds United squad:

Robinson, Kelly, Matteo, Harte, Radebe, Duberry, Roque Junior, Camara, Viduka, Olembe, Sakho, Wilcox, Smith, Johnson, Batty, Lennon, Domi, Chapuis, Bridges, Milner, Barmby, Carson.

Manchester United squad:

Carroll, P Neville, Pugh, Tierney, O'Shea, Fortune, Butt, Djemba-Djemba, Fletcher, Scholes, van Nistelrooy, Giggs, Ronaldo, Bellion, Forlan, Steele, Richardson, Eagles.

However the game goes, fergie should rest Ruud, and play forlan and bellion for the whole match.

Not sure about Bellion and Forlan up front. Where's the end product coming from? Perhaps a stronger finisher such as Nardiello would be better suited as a partner.

Let's play Ronaldo upfront and see what he can do.

Rest RVN! And why Ferdinand is not playing? He could be banned soon. Where is Nardiello?

I would prefer this line-up

-----------Carroll---------------
Gary----Rio----O'Shea---Fortune
Fletcher--Phil--Djemba--Ronaldo
-------Bellion--Forlan-----------

Subs
Nardiello
Butt
Kleberson???
Richardson
Steele

i read from somewhere that ronaldo wont be playing..SAF wana rest him..
Probably true, afterall, Sir Alex hasn't played him twice in a week ever yet.

-----------Carroll---------------

Gary----Rio----O'Shea---Fortune

--------Jones----Djemba--------

Eagles------Fletcher-----Bellion--

------------Ronaldo-------------

That would be my team, I'd be interested in seeing how Ronaldo does upfront. It looks a very good team IMO.

That was just their "probable team" though. They might get it completely wrong.

This is just a fitness exercise for us,these lads have no experience playing together, I'd be very suprised if we got anything from this game, and team selection would indicate, that Fergie couldn't give a shite about this competition :( ah well we'll see

carroll
phil neville - gary neville - john o´shea- quinton fortune
darren fletcher - nicky butt - djemba djemba - kieron richardson

Looking forward to seeing this side. Looks like a weakened Leeds side as well tho, so it will be important not to read too much into it if we win as that could cause complacency. The way we play will be more important than the result.
