Let's all Laugh at England

 True.

People are idiots though if they seriously think anything over a very tiny minority actually thought for one second we had any chance. There's been a lot of prejudice against the English over a fecking song of late, and that's just plain backwards. Just laugh at us for being shit, not for mistakenly thinking we actually believed we were any good ;)

Basically, that's all people have been doing here untill Englishmen took it into serious matter

It really just wasn't/hasn't been the English though has it. Despite people trying to twist the narrative that way, there's been plenty of others who haven't been here just to have a light hearted joke about it all. Thankfully most of us can see the fun side of it all, well apart from the idiots banging on over and over about that fecking aggravating song! ;)

Cannot see him recovering from this.

Good. I can't stand the cock ;)

yes it's been a crazy thread

it started off as almost shock amongst England fans that they aren't supported by everyone - some suggesting that if you don't support England you shouldn't support a team from England

lots of upset Englishmen derailed the thread - quite sad really as we've resident Scousers who are much better craic with less of a stick up their arses in the RAWK or laugh at Liverpool threads

All good yea but it's still fecking irritating to the rest of Britain who all have to watch the same tv :)

And it's not the song! It's just those three words! Sing songs all you want but signing off posts and constantly saying it (I'm a broken record here but no one wants to address) was the kicker.

The other kicker was you all claiming it was irony self depreciating humour when its clearly only been sung when you've done a bit well and had false hope, and not previously when you've been shit(er). Why didn't you use your World famous irony and humour when you were bombing out of every other tournament. That is a genuine question, I think one poster has answered, maybe.

But I digress, obviously my nation was too shit to qualify, too shit for you englanders to even care about but I still love it here, can't wait to get further than you lot in the euros again and starting banging on about our passion :D

Yeah. But you conveniently overlook the ones bringing politics and history into a football discussion and acting as if all of you are having a genuine laugh

Here we go again

You are totally wrong btw, we annoyingly sing it at every tournament ffs, I don't understand why you seem to think it's just been this one? That's your whole point in your second paragraph, we literally sing it all the fecking time! So trying to separate the song from the words is just you doing that to make a point that's fundamentally flawed. It's coming home has been a feature in every tournament since the slogan first appeared (before the song was even a thing) then was put in the song. Every tournament. It's just this one now it's become a big problem for others. I get what you are saying, but what you are saying is based on a belief that's incorrect.

Oh and I've never once signed off a post on here with those words, but people were to have a laugh and wind others up. I guess it worked well, but yeah it's only the English who are taking this thread seriously ;)

Just calm down Zlatan, it's only bloody football, for goodness sake. It's only a daft song, no harm done. The more you complain the more the English will sing it...I'm telling you :-)

Harry Kane brought a football home after his hat trick, is that what the songs about?

But I still see that Hattrick by Kane
Pickfords save at close range
Mandzukic writhing in pain

I've wasted my last post of the day to tell you I'm calm  no need to goodness sake me. I'm all good honestly mate, thanks. I've had a great World Cup. I've even listened to radio one World Cup playlists full of England songs, it's been great.

Just pointing out that the England song defenders are talking shit :)

You seem quite irritated though.

Edit: sorry @Redlambs but I'm out of posts to reply but made the effort to edit this, just for you. You know I love a hashtag :D

The song started to annoy me, honestly, even though I like it (and Baddiel and Skinner) because for all the irony it does lay some sort of proprietary claim to the sport.

That said, I don't think England should have any regrets about this World Cup. This was one of the best, and most enjoyable, English teams (as opposed to collections of individuals) I've watched.

I prefer the '98 remix to the original, chorus sounds punchier. And in '98 it was up against the wonderfully bizarre 'Vindaloo'...

But yeah, it will be sung at the next tourny just like it has at every one since 96. #itsneverstoppingcominghome!

Vindaloo is brilliant.
The music video for Vindaloo makes it for me. Obviously a very good parody of 'Bittersweet Symphony' but so delightfully absurd. Haven't had a really iconic World Cup song since then, I don't think.

Quite the contrary, I've loved every minute of this world cup. In terms of football, it's been the best for decades and I have to say the Russians have put on a dam good show. The fact England got to a semi-final when we really are a bit shite was pretty funny to. You have to remember that English fans haven't really given a toss about the team for ages, so it was a nice change to see national support re-ignited, although how long that will last is anyones guess!

England put in its place. They were nice till the point they had it easy. Clearly found while playing better teams

More of a origin-claim, which to my knowledge isn't wrong.

Haha yeah it was like RAWk here looking at some English fans posts.

We should have had a redcafe goes into meltdown (England fan World Cup edition) thread

True, but I don't hear the French singing 'motorsport's coming home'. As I said, I like the song but when you're doing well it's just a little undignified to keep repeating. They're all games played in some form since the dawn of time.

At best it comes off as someone telling you "hey, look how far in the past I can live!!!" Like some Sheffield Wednesday fan telling you how great a club it is.

The Russians were playing it in the stadium after every goal we scored. That fuelled it.

Stop talking sense you Englishman.

We invented football and it's ours. Screw these small time little shits who have never invented much of note, when football comes home at the Euros they will all know about it then! In fact I'm going to write a song about how we invented every type of sports ball known to man, make it a big hit, then I can go around claiming every single ball is mine and then when someone on Redcafe tries to make a shit point I'll take ALL the sports balls home! Then no one can play and we'll have an even easier route to the trophy.

Now all I need to do is get some shit pundit to mention it over and over, some drunk idiots to sing it and then it's official.

It's all coming home. Everything.

England have finished 4th in a World Cup - absolutely fantastic achievement and way beyond what anybody could have imagined before the tournament. Well done to them.

Great world cup . Knocking the jocks out in qualifying was a great start . Going into the tournament with a shite squad and a shite manager but then getting a nice run of games to reach the semis was fun too , we would never reach the semis with a tougher draw . It just made it all enjoyable for a change . After getting knocked out its brilliant how we are now getting called arrogant by non English that don`t get our sense of humour . Be nice to get another British team in qualifying as even though we are shit , they are all far worse . There is a good chance that all the home nations will qualify as there are now 24 places out of 55 teams so that should make it interesting . Playing the games all across Europe is pretty cool and the final is in Wembley . It`s Coming Home .

 Love this thread.

 It's been great fun ;)

Except it really wasn’t. Plenty of English thought they’d win it, or atleast make the final, as they were jizzing themselves when they got the easy side of the draw.

Yeah yeah, I suppose you have plenty of English mates too and they sung Three Lions whilst telling you we were going to beat Croatia 5-0. Very likely.

But it really was wasn’t it - no one English thought we would win it. You can continue to to make things up if it makes you happy!

It’s coming home, la :-)

Lineker and everyone else trotting out this line is being a bit disingenuous.

Sure you can say its all a bit of fun and typical English humor. But tell me, looking at the draw, deep down if you weren't thinking to yourself "Maybe, just maybe with a bit of luck we've got a chance."

If the route to the final was Argentina-Brazil-France and fans were singing "Its coming home", more and more after each win then sure its a bit of self depreciating humor.

But Colombia-Sweden-Croatia/Russia (no disrespect)? Are you seriously telling me that there wasn't an English fan out there who honestly felt there was a chance for a place in the final and a Portugal style win?

Every single person who sang its coming home expected England to lose against one of the above teams?

Of course we hoped we might get to the final - the fans of every team would have been hoping to win each match they played.

The issues is that there appears to be lots of non-English people claiming that the English EXPECTED to win - which is clearly not the case.

By the way, the song is called Three Lions and these are some of the lyrics - written by comedians, who had a show Fantasy Football in the 90’s - it really can’t be more clear that it’s a piss take.

[Verse 1: Frank Skinner (comedian - and avid West Brom supporter]

Everyone seems to know the score, they've seen it all before
They just know, they're so sure
That England's gonna throw it away, gonna blow it away
But I know they can play, 'cause I remember

[Verse 2: David Baddiel (he’s also a comedian)]
So many jokes, so many sneers
But all those "Oh, so nears", wear you down through the years
But I still see that tackle by Moore and when Lineker scored
Bobby belting the ball, and Nobby dancing

Every team can hope of winning a World Cup, nobody can blame your fans for that.

What's funny for me is that this is pretty much same old England that lacks any creativity, is very strong on set pieces, and has few overrated and pointless players that your fans pretend for some reason are good players(Stones, Alli, Sterling, probably Maguire too), and yet people pretend Southgate did some magic with them, when in reality it was mostly lucky draw that got them to the semis. And that's fine, there's always team that's luckier than other teams, but pretending that Southgate did some miracle with this team is ridiculous when England didn't win against any decent opposition, didn't score any goals from open play(despite everyone repeating that they are apparently insisting on ball playing defenders and stuff like that), had couple of lucky penalties and some deflected goals. What's different with this team to 2010, 2014., or any other previous team for me is that this one lacks Gerrard so I can at least enjoy these younger players without watching his face, and this team at least has a keeper that didn't conceede from every shot that went on target so that's an improvement.

Except it really wasn’t. Plenty of English thought they’d win it, or atleast make the final, as they were jizzing themselves when they got the easy side of the draw.

There’s a difference between thinking you might have a chance (many of us) and thinking you’ll win it (hardly any). And, if a football fan can’t indulge in some dreaming, then let’s shut down the site for next season as City will most likely win the league easily and United are a long way behind the big boys in Europe.

So now it's wrong to believe in your team ? lol
