Because that's the unfortunate fate of any French clubs not named PSG that goes far in any competition, they get plundered for their talents and have to start over. Like Monaco did in 2018 or Lille in 2012.

Lille are currently not complying to the DNCG, they need to sell players and even if they weren't in that situation they can't match the wages that the likes of Marseille, Lyon, Monaco or PSG can pay, let alone larger foreign clubs.

That's such a shame. I would have really liked to see them compete with all their stars in the Champions League
