:And i suppose the ball didnt strike Silvestre's hand in the box in the 1st half?

:wenger:

Yes. But...the number of times we've had penalties denied when the balls hit a defenders's raised hands...hardly even rates a mention on the boards these days.

Silvestre's hands were down, no intent and no opportunity to get out of the way of a ricochet. No decent ref would have given it (I think that's the pont you are making).

Wouldn't have been surprised to see the Pongolle incident go against us but endless TV replays have all proved that nobody knows whether there was contact - so again a correct decision.

As was the decision to let Houllier deal with Diouf and finish the game 11 vs 11.

They allowed him time to consult Eileen, did they?

This is the same guy who questioned beckham's free kick ability, said Owen isnt a natural goalscorer and feels that disabled people are handicapped due to sins in a previous life. :wenger:

But if you wish to stand in his corner, that's up to you....

When you say 'fair minded', are you seriously referring to Sky?

Don't take your temper out on me DJS.

I did say that Hoddle might not be right - just that it obviously wasn't a clear-cut penalty if he (and the referee for that matter) said it wasn't.

And the United fans I watched it with thought it was a penalty. So :p to you.

And by fair-minded neutrals, I meant exactly that. And whilst I'm not a fair-minded neutral, I do think I'm a fair-minded United supporter.

Hmm... at the time, I was as sure as you are that it should have been a penalty, but seeing it again, it isn't clear whether Rio touched him. I'm not saying it wasn't, but it is bloody impossible to see exactly what happened.

Fortunately (sort of), it doesn't matter anyway because Heskey should have scored at the end and you should have created some better chances when you were running all over us at the beginning.

You're right mate, we SHOULD'VE taken our chances.

I dont think Poll helped, but it shouldnt have mattered.

It's in the past now, que sera sera 'n' all that....

Maybe the international break will give some of our lads some time to recover from injury...but as i said, it'll be a long season now with 5 defeats already.

Something's going to have to give at some point.

I'm a bitter plastic scouser, who believes the match was fixed, even though Diouff should've been sent off, Gerrard should've got a yellow. Yes there was no contact in the box, and Pongy fell over, but heh, it's all a conspiracy.

Dont mis-interpret me Liv, there was no temper there.....i like to discuss things with your sort, because you always retain a sense of dignity and dont get abusive...so as i say, no 'temper' was intended.

From my POV, Pongo was brought down having taken the ball away from Rio - between the two of them, Rio and Howard caused him to lose his balance - it wasnt by the power of positive thinking or telepathy...that's more Hoddle's style ;)

Anyway, we can debate this all day and i can keep being sworn at by the classier United fans here, but sunset is fast approaching and i need to go and break my fast.

Never let it be said that i hide out in times of 'trouble' :D

And, every cloud has a silver lining - all it takes is one look at Leeds to keep my chin up.

;)

You're really classy, arent you what with your continuous, pathetic swearing and abuse...makes you feel big, does it?

At least it's good to see that Howard's made a friend.

My take - Liverpool had better possession- unfortunately they came up against a United back-line which was on form, & persisted in playing the ball to Diouf who was very well marshalled by O'Shea who today played his best game of the season - ditto Silvestre & the much criticised Rio!

They should have played Kewell more as he seemed to get the better of Gary, who needed his brother Phil to help out.

Heskey was a very good targetman & he did set up Murphy whose shot was very well blocked by Silvestre from 8 yards. Thankfully for us, his finishing let him & Liverpool down.

Poll had one of his 'fairer days' tho' should have booked Gerrard & sent off Diuof altho' United were lucky he didn't give Liverpool a penalty - altho' it was a close thing & Rio seemed to have reached the ball altho' replays showed it wasn't the case.

He was however correct not to award a penalty against Silvestre earlier as it was a clash of boots & the ball ricocheted against Silvestre's hand - most refs wouldn't have awarded one, & rightly so.

At the end of the day, it was Giggs who made the diff altho' Heskey missed that golden opportunity to equalise in the last minute.

A very tough match & Liverpool did very well but didn't have enough penetration & finishing.

Thank Goodness we won this one - a real heart-stopping match!

Can we now say ....18 .....but not for .....14.

The best team won . full stop.

Winning the league....your avinn a laffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff.
.
Harry Kewell ,which team is in decline please tell me!!!!!!!!

:wenger: is quoted in the Mail today as likening his current side to the World Cup winning Brazil team of '94 in that they play the ball back and forth back and forth then hit their opponents like a Rattle snake, well it hasn't worked at home against Arsenal, Chelsea and now Man Utd today, what is this guy on ???

Clever, teach me to do that.

Oh and if you dont like Giggzy, feck orf, because he may be a twat, but hes red cafes twat! ;)

That's quite a collection of twats you've got there now... AEBM and now Giggzy... ;)

doesn't :wenger: always claim that your players return tired from internationals?

;)

Pongolle was going over before Rio even got there. Ergo, correct decision was no penalty.

Buddhists think Owen isnt a natural goalscorer and that Beckham's crap at free kicks?

As for Sky....that'd be the same Sky that owned 10% of your club, non? :smirk:

But they don't anymore. What's your point?

That's tosh. A players balance is irrelevant. He played the ball, Ferdinand played the man, ergo it WAS a penalty. If Rio had played the ball then different story but he didn't. It was the same as Diouf's first challenge on O'Shea but Diouf got booked, Rio got nothing.

...and Diouf didn't get a second yellow for imprinting his studs onto O'Shea's shin - the cameras showed it was so forceful that it possibly tore through the pads & caused bleeding!

And for good measure, how about Gerrard's now famous leg-breaking attempts? Did that receive a yellow?

:boring: Get some perspective. O'Shea kicked the underside of Diouf's boot as Diouf attempted to block a clearance, Diouf did not kick out at or scrape his studs down the players leg in an effort to injure O'Shea - Royston has cornered the market there. It was an unfortunate accident not malicious.

:boring: :boring:

When a Liverpool player commits a foul, it's the opponents who put their body in the way of the stud - if it happens to a United player, he should have been booked or sent-off! :wenger:

Even Houllier reluctantly eventually apologised to Boateng when Gerrard nearly broke his leg 2 seasons or so ago despite initially calling him an actor....

How pathetic. Everyone is an ABU. Grow up. It was exactly the same as the incident a couple of years back when Gronkjaer kicked the underside of Vieira's boot. Vieira was wrongly sent off and it was overturned.

The Boateng incident was interesting, the following week he made exactly the same challenge, if not worse, in a European game and the press made nothing of it. Odd that.

You appear to have a collection of anti-Gerrard bullshit ready to drop into any argument. Very bitter that. Shouldn't expect anything less though.
