United trio doubtful for Cup final

Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Wes Brown remain Manchester United's major doubts ahead of Sunday's Worthington Cup final.

Mikael Silvestre has resumed training after his recent ankle injury and will play against Liverpool in Cardiff, but neither Brown (hamstring), Scholes (groin) or Giggs (thigh) is looking likely to make United's side.

'Of the three, I think Scholes has the better chance, but Giggs and Brown are very doubtful, which is really disappointing for the lads,' said Ferguson.

'I think when you go through the course of a whole season, you are happy to get an injury or two, but when you get them and it means missing a final it affects them more deeply.

'But we will do our best and give them every chance, but other than that everyone is fit and ready.'

South African midfielder Quinton Fortune will play for the reserves against Blackburn tonight, and if he comes through unscathed will be added to the squad.

So that changes the line up a bit, i'm thinking this..

Barthez

Gaz-Rio-O'Shea-Mickey

becks-keane-butt-veron

ole-ruud

I rekon Mikey will go in the middle to cope with the pace of

and JOS out on the left

Listen to yourselves!!

Who gives a damn, its the Worthington!

I remember you mancs taking the pure piss out of the scousers when they took their final sgainst Birmingham seriously. Now you're actually taking an interest in the competition.

For what its worth I think United will win comfortably (in terms of the play) but by only one goal.

I think the opponents are more important than the competition in this case.

I don't feel confident at all of a United win.

That's what them 5 defeats in a row we had will do to your confidence Liv.

In 3 of those 5 games we played without pride, were outplayed and lost them.

In 2, we outplayed them, dominated possession, missed good chances, hit the woodwork & had blatent pens turned down. Then we still lost.

I think it's vital that we don't attempt a 200 mile an hour start and find ourselves 1-0 down on the counter.

If we score first, we will win I reckon. If they score first, they will frustrate us and win.

They are shit at dictating the pace of a game. We should invite them on and control the play like at Anfield. Patience is the key.

Then we can concede a late Heskey scuffed shot and enjoy their foul celebrations and the screams of Hyyyyyyyyyypia as he lifts the world cup above his head.

I'm of for the weekend now. Probably won't get a chance to post until Sunday night. So.....

UNITED! UNITED! UNITED!
C'MON YOU REDS BEAT THE SCOUSE SCUM

Good Luck.
Be Careful.

Look, it's OK. You can get excited about playing Liverpool. It's not as if you're getting excited about the Worthington Cup.

But why isn't the WC taken seriously? Strikes me as being no different to the FA Cup except there's no non-league teams. Why isn't it prestigious?

I think it'll be the usual 'spoiler' trio of Murphy, Hamman and Gerrard across the midfield so there'll be no time or space for our more skilful players.

Start with Keane and Butt / Neville in midfield and save Veron / Giggs for later in the game when players tire and spaces open up.

Agree a win against the opponents is more important than a win in the Worthless cup. Also some of you seem to forget our last win against the Scousers 2-1 at their place quite recently I think... ;) Think the boys will be up for it tomorrow especially after Juve on Wednesday..!

I'm starting to think we'll start off with this:

----------- Fab -----------

Gaz -- Rio --- Silv -- John

Becks -- Butt --- Roy -- Seba

----------- Scholes -----------

----------- Ruud -----------

with Ole to use as Plan B.
