Under normal circumstances I'd agree. However last Summer Liverpool were In a unique position of having significant financial strength in terms of wages they could afford and fees they could spend.
It was even different to Spurs after they sold Bale. Liverpool could have afforded tge big transfer fees, but also the big wages needed to sign 2-3 players on £150-200k a week. They had the wage budget and the transfer budget to really make a go at re-establishing themselves in the elite.
Instead of targeting those players they made a half arsed attempt to sign Sanchez and then seemed to just settle for mediocrity and hopeful punts.
The likes of Tevez, Mourinho, Martinez, Marchisio, Griezmann etc would have all been attainable if they went in hard.
Meh, I'm not too sure about that. I'm struggling to think of a proven top quality signing in the last couple of years. Tevez wants back to Argentina, Moutinho is probably on crazy wages at Monaco, Griezmann wouldn't pick us over Atletico, and so on. Maybe we could've got some players like that if we offered big wages but we also desperately needed to add depth to our squad. We could go on about it forever but the only thing we needed to do was to find a suitable replacement for Suarez and we failed to do that.
The depth thing is a load of shite, and completely contradicts the line coming from other 'pool fans. You don't go for depth but also go for young players that can develop into good players for the squad. Aside from Can and Moreno, you've hardly used the new signings, with Manquillo and Lovren quickly falling out of favour, Lallana seemingly being back-up, and the rest never really being in favour to start with.

I think Coutinho and Sturridge gave the brass a really inflated idea of how effective this strategy is.
Assadi, Borini, Alberto, Aspas, Ilori, Ballotelli, Lambert, Markovic - All complete nonentities.
Allen and Mignolet have been ok, although Allen was overpriced and not really a 'value in the market deal' as much as a 'I want my man in'. Can looks like he can be actual value.
Not to mention all our loan signings have been utter duds. Zero value there.
Since Rodgers came in, I'd class only Sturridge, Coutinho and Sakho as good value, Can Moreno and Mignolet as potentially good and Allen and Lallana as overpriced but ok now they are here (Mignolet and Moreno probably should be in the ok category really).
Rafa got flack for his signings, but he got a lot more value out of his transfer policy.
It doesn't help that our bigger signings haven't been good either. Sakho, Lovren, Markovic, Lallana, Balotelli - One good signing, one ok, one who might come good and two utter duds. But hardly 100m worth of talent there.
So in short, we suck all over at transfers.
I'm sorry, but Sakho can't be a good signing. He has looked like a liability every time I've seen him play.
I'm not sure about that. You could offer higher wages for the majority of those players and they'd have made a difference. My view is that you buy quality who demote current first team players into squad players. You don't buy player's with the intention that they will just fill the squad.

Haven't written him off yet. Not the 20m player we needed though. Don't think he will be in the near future either.
We spent 62m on three players to replace Suarez. On paper, seems like a good idea, rather than put all eggs in one basket to replace a player who filled 3 roles anyway. Very little replacing of anything in those three though.

He's a typical FSG signing. The lad may well come good .. there are plenty of very respected people in the game who think he will. However he isn't what we needed at the time.

I've been saying for most of the season that you guys should hold onto him but thats actually the main reason i'd let him go at this point.
3 years in and hes still struggling to put together a formation or vaguely balanced team out every week.
Hes been pushing sterling around the pitch every week to shoehorn him into some wonky formation.
You need a striker, at least one midfielder and to replace your entire back 5 in the summer ideally, which is kind of damning.
I'd stick with him if i thought there was an endgame but i suspect if he was given another 2 / 3 years you'd still be playing 3-4-3 or a midfield diamond or some weird formation pushing sterling to wing back to make it work.
Im starting to get a bit skeptical that there is a philosophy really outside of getting guys like henderson to run a million miles every match too.

He's been played as a RWB a lot of the time I have seen him (which he clearly isn't). I am surprised at how much criticism he is getting. After having a year to adapt to the league, and played in his best position, I think he could be alright.
It's as cliched as Brendon Rodgers death by football. He looks good because he plays next to Toure and Lovren. You paid how much? 15 Million? That's serious money for a defender
He's also a seriously good defender.
Just read on the BBC that it would take 10m to sack Rodgers. They're not sacking him if that's true
Yep, that'd constitute a third of our budget sales not included plus all the backroom staff and the money required to bring the new man in just makes it extremely unviable. You've also got no guarantee that the players would adapt to the new man and how long it would to take for him to shape his side, this having brought a boatload of signings in last summer already who I expect will be given a chance to improve next season barring a few.
We might aswell just try and focus on helping Rodger's maximise his strengths and negate his coaching deficiencies, but I really am in two minds if Klopp is on the market and does want to come its a real can not miss opportunity, the only thing that worries me is the way he plays might not be sustainable in the Prem in the long term. Dortmund's players burntout eventually and here he won't even have a mid season break and will have a probable Europa League campaign to contend with to complicate matters further. Still its a moot point. I can't see the sack coming for Rodgers barring a disastrous end to the season but I'd fully understand if they pulled the curtains down on Rodgers if Klopp assured them he wanted to come long shot though it may be.

I cannot imagine there are no get out clauses, even on a fixed period contract. If Brenda has lost the board £10m would be chicken feed in a constructed dismissal case. The more difficult question would be a viable alternative brought in on a relative shoestring budget.
Klopp would be the perfect candidate. This season some of his key players were burned out due to World Cup commitments, Dortmund were not the only ones to suffer. He also lost two top players to Munich and not replaced. His lack of success was also due to opponents second guessing his tactics. He recovered during the break but there is a feeling that this season has exhausted everyone. It's been a lesson and I wouldn't be surprised if Klopp takes time out and reappraise himself. However, he's still a great squad craftsman and builds confidence in average players.

Thankfully you're giving Rodgers an extra year and allowing Klopp the chance to continue to manage in the Champions League.
