Liverpool v Manchester United

Jones
Rio
Vida/Evans
Evra

Nani
Carrick
Anderson
Cleverley/Fletcher
Young

Rooney

0-1 Rooney

Is close to the team I would go for, probably going for Carrick, Anderson and Fletcher as the midfield three. Might go with Park or Valencia over Young. Any chance of Smalling being available for this match?

SAF said he's hoping to have Smalling, Vidic and Cleverley back for this match. But he said that Vidic & Cleverley would both have to train very hard for them to be considered.

He didn't say that about Smalling, so yes I think he'll be back.

2-2. Featuring a Suarez dive for a penalty, and a last minute equaliser for us.

Our midfield is good enough with Lucas, but Adam definitely weakens it defensively. If Adam plays then Rooney will really need to take advantage of the hole Adam leaves there. However, the other side of the coin, Adam serves up some seriously deadly set pieces and you won't want to give away free kicks or corners as Carroll will be eyeing up your Gay goalie.

Our subs will be key, Bellamy is better than most people have expected and are yet to expect. Gerrard could be the other sub (if not starting). As long as we don't concede stupid early goals it will all be about a second half push.

No gung-ho footy here.

Rooney up top on his own. Liverpool will be up for it and no very well that we aren't good when pressured. 5 in the midfield is needed.

Jones ---------Rio---- Vidic---------- Evra
Nani -Carrick -Park--- Anderson- Young

i really hope carrick doesnt play in this match, id prefer fletcher.

its been a whiles since we won at anfield, cant see us winning there this year either.

........De Gea
Jones Rio Vida Evra
Cleverley Anderson
Nani Rooney Young
.......Welbeck

Vida is too good to ease back into the side. If he's ready he's ready.

I reckon United are due a beating. Norwich came close enough.

I think Basle came a lot closer than Norwich. I always felt against Norwich we were bound to get a goal that would kill them off especially as they were missing a hatful.

I suspect your first statement is right but thats because this is Liverpool's cup final and add the history of referee's giving them a helping hand we may just struggle.

Who's the ref? Has it been decided yet?

Normally I loathe the national break but I think this one comes at a good time for us. Hopefully Vidic and Ferdinand are fit and ready and Cleverley coming soon too.

I agree on the views on Vidic, get him straight into the team

It's going to be a tough call for Fergie. Vidic has certainly been badly missed, but he tends to look rusty after an absence, which we can ill afford at Anfield.

Both Jones and Evans have had their problems this season as well, I would think an off pace Vidic I still better than an inconsistent Jones or Evans.

Torres got behind us too much, not something Rio and Vida would let happen, even if they were coming back from a layoff.

He's a safety first defender anyway, he very rarely make choices that lead to goals. Jones needs to learn to kick/head the ball out in the situations that warrant.

4-5-1 formation for this match, with both Hernandez and Welbeck on the bench ready to come on in the second half.

ok, I'll bite - I thought you were better than to try and emulate the idiotic wumming of your arse-mate - they were three goals away from winning. Please don't start cherry-picking their "near misses" whilst totally ignoring ours. Silly.

We are definitely due a win at Anfield, no doubt about that. Whether we get it or not though, is a different matter entirely. I do believe we stand a good chance, especially if Vidic is back but Rooney will need to have a blinder up front. Hopefully the midfield smartens up, real quick.

A draw will not be a bad result for me. But not a lose. That's gonna be a real downer.

Score draw. 2-2.

About time we turned up at Anfield.

We've not actually played well there since the feckin' late 90's.

A couple of good results, but they were counter attack stuff.

Throwing vidic back into this game without any gametime is a huge risk expect him to be close to getting a yellow or two. Rio looks off the pace as well. We need Carrick or Fletcher to play.

I agree it is about time we put in a performance and comfortably beat them, we didn't play too badly when we beat them 2-1 (the Forlan game), 2-1 (the Giggs game) and 1-0 (Rooney goal) but certainly the wins under this current side have been very much smash and grab

Fergie will probably play 4-4-2 like the past few games at Anfield and they'll run circles around our midfield.

PLEASE pack the midfield for this one!

Don't think it will be announced for another week or so. Can't see them picking Webb cos Dalglish would cry.

This Web thing is way overblown - it's the typical media witch hunt. We receive the rough end of the stick and not a murmur but the moment a decision goes in our favour they press are crying from the rooftops.

Yeah it's ridiculous. I'd like us to beat Liverpool with an offside goal or dodgy decision to see Dalglish explode but it would only mean that the media spout shit about us and make referee's fail to give us anything for months.

I dont see it panning out that way unless they switch from their 4-4-2 if they match us up then no way will their midfield dominate ours.

That said I can see Gerrard starting ahead of Carroll so they probably will change to 4-5-1 if we play Welbeck instead of Hernandez though we can easily match them up with the former on one of the wings and Young playing more centrally (matching up Gerrard)
