Liverpool Vs Manchester United

They seemed to want it more than we did after being against the ropes for the last few weeks. Referee's terrible decisions didn't help but we must do our job before we can blame anyone else. We should be able to create more chances than we did during this game.

Sloppy passing and not enough urgency for most of the match, we were really bad but the referee was worse. This was by far the worst referee display I've seen in a long time. The first half was 50/50 between the two teams but I think seriously think our heads were clouded by the first half display from the ref, you saw our players arguing with him at HT, there and then I just think we lost our way and never got our heads back into the match. We pushed and pushed towards the end and felt we could have got an equaliser but they broke away (from an incident I felt we should have had a freekick BTW) and struck the killer blow.

Oh, com'on lads. I thought torres was invisible till that moment. Vidic did himself no harm today except that he still has that "thou shall not pass" moment again. Lucas and Mascherano were all over the pitch closing our two down. It in a sense was just like Sunderland again with Cana and Cattermole. Bad performance surely. But its their cup game, we weren't expecting a stroll in the park.

Onwards and upwards indeed.

They played the same tactics 3 times in a row and we lost all 3 times.. We would have known they would play like that..

i thought valencia was one of the few players who looked up for it - he was dangerous every time we got him on the ball - was unlucky not to score as well

He was probably up for it but he's so one-dimensional. He'll be five, ten yards outside the box on the right and will force a cross. He needs to penetrate at the defender, he'd draw fouls and maybe penalties, or possibly beat his man and lay it off for a goal. And he never uses his left, except when he runs to his left and has nothing in mind and will simply toe-poke it.

We'll be alright, of course, but this is definitely getting frustrating. Good performance from Liverpool just like the last two games. We've got to start fighting like we want it in these games or we're going to keep losing these fixtures.

Pick up tomorrow.

That was the worst game I have seen for a long time ,we did not even look like scoring.
When ever we had a change it was like the player was scared to shoot.
The ref was dreadfull , but the 2 sending off had to be done , he had booked them already ,but Vidic's first yellow was a joke.
I had Vidic down has my man of the match before he was sent off and stick by it,he took a red for the team but he did not need to to be honest we would not of scored in that game if we had played for a week.

We were terrible, the better team won undoubtedly. I can now say though i have well and truly seen my arse with Berbatov. We purchased this guy for a lot of money to be the calm composed one, the player who gives us silk and sex upfront. He couldn't make a pass today to save his life. These are the games that make our players what they are and Berbatov was found wanting once again. A lot of people will blame Valencia but he created more than Berbs today. By the looks of things he knows it too. His face on the bench after he was subbed, he looked like he was shitting himself.

FT. Liverpool 2-0 Manchester United

Toothless, embarassing performance. Got what we deserved im afraid. This is our wake up call.

We've been having "wake up calls" for six months now, ever since Liverpool humiliated us at Old Trafford. We didn't take any last season, stumbling over the line - and then losing the Champion's League final in pathetic fashion - and we've not taken any this season, either.

ok so as a female i obviously don't know the finer points of the game like you men - but is carrick as bad i think?

He's a quality player but has regressed of late. Not sure if it's a confidence thing or if his quality (or lack of top quality) had been masked by Giggs new found energy and Ronaldo's brilliance. The central midfield has been the weakest part for United the last four or five seasons.

We were poor until they scored... Maybe Giggs should have been moved into the centre earlier. Liverpool wanted it more also. But that ref was also a disgrace, not that it would have changed anything but he was surely not doing his job correctly.

He was one of our better players today.

I thought the midfield didn't cope with theirs today. Having two defensive minded players in Lucas and Mascherano certainly suffocated us. Both Scholes and Carrick weren't at their best or anywhere close to it to say the least.

Not quite invisible, he was just lying down.

True. But i tend to over-exaggerate a bit.

I must ponder how a ref is given a match of this magnitude when he's never officiated a match of this magnitude. Surely this was a match for a top rated official. He was influenced by the home crowd and even Giggs talked him into a yellow against Mascherano. He bottled many calls including two potential United penalties and one for Liverpool. And he never booked Lucas for repeated fouling. He also got it wrong on the Carragher yellow and when Carragher used his hand to swat the ball forward during the run of play that led to the final goal. That's a second yellow and a free kick. Evra's yellow was a joke as was his first "foul" when Torres tripped himself. Berbatov got a yellow that was ludicrous.

Oh god am I going to eat this monday morning. I have to say we were very poor today, didn't deserve and got nothing but I am upset at the way we were beaten. The ref was crap and clearly a homer.

As long as that's all they win this season, I'll forgive and forget.

Me too. They beat us twice last season and we still ended up as Champions and they won feck all.

It does hurt though particularly when in it is such a lame shitty performance. No urgency or passion, particularly the 2nd half. It could have been worse. We were lucky not to be 2 or 3 nil down at half time.

I agree - my biggest concern is now the outcome of a particular match, but rather how often we seem to put in a woeful performance against some of the better teams. I agree it seemed to start with the mauling we got from Liverpool last season, with the Champion's League final perhaps the worst.

We seem to play a very different type of game against some of these teams. It's as if we expect them to roll over, or play below our level, and when they don't we seem to run out of ideas.

Getting beat is annoying enough, but deserving to get beaten is far worse.

I wasn't optimistic about this game. I knew we would be getting closed down throughout the park and we completely lacked the ability to retain the ball under pressure, we try to keep possession and end up losing it in dangerous areas. We were lucky not to be punished a lot sooner. Midfield had no energy.. Once again Fletcher is missed and we are left to wonder how different our team would be if Hargreaves was fit.

Really though, it was a completely lacklustre performance and we got what we deserved. Although it's no time to get worried, I must say that we have come up against two top sides this year and looked shite both (although we did win one), and even last season we had one big game against a top team (3-0 Chelsea). I think if we win the league this season it will be like last year; through grinding out wins in low scoring games.

I though picking Scholes after he'd played the majority of the game against CSKA was the only mistake in the team selection. Anderson would have given us a bit more of a buzzing around prescence in the midfield.

I thought Giggs kept coming inside too often which left Evra very isolated coming forward and that was obvious when Nani came on and Evra had more of a freedom to get forward.

Defensively i thought we weren't that bad, Vidic had his customary sending off but i thought he was great in the air all game and his first yellow was quite harsh really. Rio was poor though, for the goal he should have been closer to Torres before the pass was made to him but hey-ho.

We lost, that's the be all and end all. We're still just behind Chelsea and everyone knows that we start the season poorly so if we're there or there abouts come Christmas then we still have a big chance. Liverpool on the other hand cannot rely on Torres to get all their goals. Who else in the Liverpool team looked like scoring today? they will drop more points that is for sure, we just need to make sure that we bounce back from this (like we usually do) and go on a run of wins.

But i am proud to announce that the KRAP campaign is back on track!

Shocking match. Absoloutely gutted. Was a worse performance than the one at Burnley!

People laughed at Mascherano and Lucas, but at least they put a shift in and they where to much for the likes of Scholes and Carrick. Then Giggs and Carrick. Simply never let them get time on the ball, I think we would of stood a better chance with Anderson and Fletcher in the middle.

Nothing against SAF but it appears some managers just have the edge on tactics. Quieroz was a big influence for SAF. He's not replaced him with a brilliant tactician.

Owen should have come on earlier...he looked effective.

Ok we did not play well...but the ref clearly had a huge say in how this game was decided..Lucas not even booked, Carra...no red card and Carrick should have got a penalty....clear as day...

berbatov's never played at this kind of level before united. for the bulk of his career he has been either in bundesliga, and then spurs. not exactly as pressure cooker of situations as united. aesthetically he's great, but just out of his depth when you are taking about the creme of the footballing world.

even more so with a non existent midfield behind you!
