Van Gaal: The verdict

  • 1) Sack him now.

  • 2) Sack him at the end of the season.

  • 3) Let him see out his contract and part ways after that.

  • 4) Extend his contract.

  • Undecided (between 1 and 2).

  • Undecided (between 2 and 3).

  • Undecided (between 3 and 4, if things improve before his contract expires, extend).

he is slowly improving. he has played better of late than earlier in the season. plus we have injuries so we can hardly drop him now.

didn't drop him before and he's not really improving is he? the attack suffers already , add him to it and it's diabolical.

Are some people still seriously trying to argue that our attack isn't that bad? How many stats need to be thrown in to prove how crap it is?

In fact, forget stats, just watch us. Its shit.

look at LC , last season same time last place with 13 scored 21 conceded to first with 28 scored and 20 conceded. goals change games and teams fortunes

He really is a stubborn old git isn't he?

If you had to pick probably the two worst games to pick a Carrick/Bastian partnership, it would be Arsenal and Leicester away.

Unbelievable.

I know MS had a nightmare mid-week but most of that was due to him being left horribly exposed.

Carrick just scares me right now. He was shite for England too recently there and I just can't help but feel, along with Rooney, that he's finished.

A lot of what Van Gaal has said recently is really interesting given his history as a coach who liked to play attacking football, and just putting big emphasis on the need for entertaining the fans.

Seems like a part of him is still haunted by the ghost of Bayern, and he's altered his ideology to overcome some of the problems his teams faced in the past.
Not very likely, it wasn't his first experience with vulnerability of his style. In his last year at Ajax, a lot of the best players had left and he had to play 18-year olds who didn't have the talent in the CL and got hammered. And still he took his desire to play attacking football to Barca. After Bayern at the national team he did the qaulifiers in a very attacking style. Allthough the absence of Strootman forced him to change the system, with Strootman it also wasn't a team with many very good players. It worked fine though.

I don't think he's committing players forward or not, it's mostly the players themselves who have to judge when they can get forward and when not. That's why he likes players to think for themselves. But most of them still can't, not in relation to the system at least. That became emberassingly clear wednesday when Schweinsteiger was subbed, but also before there's a general lack of ideas how to create space and danger just by moving and simple passing. Maybe the Bayern players a simular difficulties, but not in an attacking sense but in how to use the system to eliminate space and danger.

That is really quite terrible.
It's also september's news. Where are the chances, shots and shots on target stats from the last few games. Didn't they fit the narrative?

It's become quite obvious that he is not the manager we need. The players look afraid instead of inspired. As long as he is here we won't win a thing. I hate how under SAF only winning the title was good enough...second was first loser. Now, it seems that LVG thinks top 4 is good enough. Just unacceptable, especially after the owners, who were criticized for years over not spending, have sanctioned major funds and we still have seen no improvement. I hope that someone high up can see this and make a sensible decision. I really thought Klopp would've been a good fit for us, but we let that ship sail also.

Not putting Blind on corners from the moment he joined us must be the biggest blot on his career. To think Phil Jones was on corner taking duty at one point instead....

Needs to wake up when it comes to Carrick and Rooney but he's clearly not going to.

Said a million times but I thought he was supposed to have 'balls' that the likes of Moyes did not. Apparently its nonsense.

I didn't even celebrate that schweiny goal not like I celebrate other goals anyway.

He's completely ruined the enjoyment of watching United.

He has a winning mentality and at the end of the day, that seems to be what is most important. I believe some of the critique towards Van Gaal is a bit harsh. We have not been playing eye candy football for awhile and he has a knack of winning games when we are playing badly.

I'm not a fan of LVGs persistence with Rooney but I have to say the recent dreadful performances are due to the players. Misplaced passes, lackadaisical when passing forward, lazy defending the counter.

It's getting to the point where the only chance he has is to play his get-out-of-jail free card and drop Rooney. Might not work, but we can't just go on like this. If he doesn't do it, he may as well leave.

Which are things you are supposed to train and improve during the week.

what is this get out of jail free card?

As if not dropping Rooney was not enough now he insists on that fecking garbage 352 shit, he's really fecking tiresome now.

i dont think you need to give extra training for carrick on passing. if we did, we would read another "united senior fed up with training skills"

Maybe LvG should have asked for 1.5 billion, and clean all of SAF's players out and buy a completely new team. The players he bought himself aren't the problem.

Who talked about extra training?

hes bought pretty much a new team

Must say I was surprise at the formation. What a risk to suddenly change it when playing away to an inform side

But I'm not sure what to make of the half as the goal changes it. We were still quite lacklustre and uneventful and created little. So not much changed I guess

But as a unit for the most part we were set up quite well to stop the opposition. Like we were up against a superior team almost

Van Gaal philosophy

Pass the ball as much as poss. Do not tackle, do not shoot from distance, do not close other team's down , play with no tempo, play with zero intensity. Keep passing - do not run with the ball, be slow keep things simple. Play players out of position and keep passing the ball. If things don't go to plan we'll chuck Fellaini on.

As a utd fan our style of play is abysmal. Players look slow lethargic, some look totally disinterested. We allow ourselves to be bullied haven't seen a single meaningful tackle in that first half.If this is his philosophy then we will win nothing. We are man utd --our fans, our club legends and our very history deserves so much more.

Because he never plays to win, I don't get how people don't understand this yet

This football is so cowardly. Would like to see LVG go

15 mins left and we are just slowly passing it around
