Chelsea are not playing better football than us.

From what I have seen they actually do. Apart from the defence. Team that literally has players who want their manager gone are playing better than us.

20 goals (10 v brugge and ipswich) in the first 10. better early vs. poorer opposition. but still nothing to be over joyed by.

Martial in the first half when their defender dived in the way, Fellaini tap in, Martial from Depay's good play, Lingard from a set piece or something when it dropped back and he blasted wide, Mata after that good bit of intricate passing shooting wide on his right foot, Schweinsteiger blast just over. And most of those missed the target.

That's off memory, there were likely others too, we took 21 shots and let's face it we're not the type of team that bombards the opposition with shots, we try to get into good positions first.

Only the Fellaini, Martial second half and Lingard chances were really good chances... The rest were just half chances/ openings.

And the funny thing is, the best two chances of the entire game fell to West Ham players.

The way I see it is that he has said so often now that our play in the final third needs to improve, we need to play with more tempo. I was getting concerned at our inability to do that because usually his teams pick up the tempo around mid-november, the fact today we saw the players with a higher tempo during the first 20 minutes which then dropped but was picked up again after the team talk is promising and it resulted in more chances created.

I'm thinking more of the same from here on, play with that tempo against Wolfsburg as we need to if we are to win, away to Bournemouth do the same and so on. A player like Depay could take advantage of that consequently adding some goals.

The manager is responsible for getting us scoring but he is also responsible for getting us keeping clean sheets. In the summer there was a lot of pessimism about our defence because of how easily we conceded chances last season only for De Gea to save us, when Blind was moved to centre back the criticism was ridiculous considering a ball hadn't been kicked.

The defence is much improved on last season (despite the injuries, currently Shaw, Rojo, Jones, Valencia), our ability to assert control has also improved and finally our results away from home, three things that we struggled with. The attacking play was poor last season too and unfortunately still is now. The attacking play needs to be quicker, today we got that more than in previous games, after a good start in the first half it went back to our usual play but the second half was more like the first 20 mins showing the manager genuinely does want that increase in tempo and it's a matter of time before we start seeing it for 90 mins, when that happens we will consistently create chances.
Actually this match and the reaction to it reminded me of a match when he was managing AZ, after a difficult second season where nothing worked out, he lost his third(?) match in the second season 0-3 and all the journalists were over the moon because it was all falling apart again and he would soon be sacked. LvG just answered that it was their best match in a very long time and if they kept playing like that there would be no problem. He got laughed at, but they didn't lose a single match the rest of the season and won the title well before the last match day. That match was the turning point, but the only one to recognize it was LvG, because he actually looks at how they played at not at the score or some silly cherry picked stat.

Of course it's a bit tricky with this much injuries and a potential mood killer for the season in Wolfsburg. But today I actually saw three very good attacks, quick, with a lot of blind single touches, among other decent stuff. So there's something clicking that didn't click before. Rooney is probably out for a few weeks, Herrera will soon be fit again and he's consistently good lately, Depay is getting in sync with the PL's pace, Martial's level hasn't dropped deep although he's having the hangover from the high of his first few matches, Lingard is probably not a future world class player but he's positive and just keeps gettin on with it when things don't work out. Options enough in midfield, defence looks shaky from time to time but doesn't concede much.

So I wouldn't be surprised if in a months time it's top of the league, scoring a decent amount of goals and looking confidently forward to the big CL games. Of course losing to Wolfsburg would be a disappointment that could gain momentum, but I see something changing in the team and I hope the Wolfsburg game isn't coming too soon.

Not his fault that Martial couldn't hit the side of a barn with his right foot and Blind passed straight into the path of two West ham players. His fault was losing faith in a striker like Hernandez and misplace his faith in everyone else.

Im at the stage now where I'd give almost any manager a chance over van Gaal. The fact Liverpool got klopp is killing me.
Same here. He has them playing good football and I think he is a motivator. He would be one to lift players confidence not kick them when they are down all the time. I like is handling of Sturridge, basically telling him to man up.

It's becoming a bit worrying how low some United fans standards have dropped. Talking about how well some of our attacks were yet we didnt score. Can we as fans affect decisions at the club with our mentality or not?

In LvG's dictionary "attacking" means just passing the ball around. Do you guys believe that if we play against Liverpool managed by Klopp we will tear them a new one, as scousers will not be parking the bus? I am afraid that we will concede early in the game and the bubble of "possession-based football with the best defense in the league" will be burst in the first half. I honestly do not believe that our defense is solid, midfield is functioning well, while attack just needs one more true striker to get us flying. It looks like our problem is fundamental and it is directly related to tactics and style imposed on the team by LvG.

If Manchester United was representation of Redcafe's mental state it would be hell of a ride but obviously this is not a democracy. LvG and staff are under control of everything including when they eat and how they sit at the table.

Perhaps someday we should aspire to be like FC United in that matter ?

Its LVG's fault because his poor tactics in the previous games, led to us not creating chances/scoring goals. It was obvious that our strikers are not very confident in front of goal, the reason primarily being we havent scored in like ages.

Just waiting for Louis to sell Herrera for not suiting the 'philosophy'. It would suit everything else he's done.

It's LvG's fault that a 20 year old is left trying to carry the attack.

Think we missed the boat not getting Klopp when he was available a month ago (or whenever)

Really disappointed at the time and it's only got worse since it happened.

Klopp was the man we should have replaced Ferguson with, or at very least Moyes with. I didn't mind Van Gaal but it's sickening to see him move to them.

Shocking guys.... He can go now for all I care, this is not going to change with him at the helm..

The state of our striking department... LvG has well and truly cocked up there and the worst part of it is we all could see it at the time. Zero hindsight needed. To get rid of strikers and only bring in a 19 year old that we need to develop into a striker was just crazy. It's his fault we are paper thin up top.

I very much doubt this can be improved in January.

M.E.N. are saying that LvG has said Suarez and Aguerro would score in his side. Well that's a good way to keep your forwards on your side.

That would genuinely be a fireable offence. We need another Herrera to be able to play 4-3-3, not to go back to having precisely zero mobile, technically good midfielders.

On another note, the Chicharito sale looks real bad right now. Even if he was only scoring at a reasonable rate and not once per game in the Bundesliga, just having a threat off the bench and someone who attacks crosses would help. Couple of low crosses today from Darmian just begging for someone like Chicharito to attack them. It's not like Martial couldn't play wide or even as the 10, sort of interchanging with Mata, to the extent Van Gaal allows that sort of thing.

Verdict unchanged: Give Van Gaal his final year unless Guardiola wants the job or Van Gaal wants to get rid of any of Shaw, Herrera, Martial, Memphis or Smalling, which he won't. No extension without very significant improvement.

I don't want LvG here buying more players to fit his system. I hate his bloody system. I have always said that things would get better if he gets the right players, but if we then drop further down, who will come to us. Who wants to play in a system that stifles you talents.

Think he was asked the question by the journalist if they would score in his side and he said he thinks they would. Nothing to do with our attackers really, just answering the question.

It's as though Manchester United and Leicester City have had a "vice Versa" (IMDB it kids) moment. Us with the cowardly and negative tactics designed to not lose a football game and them with the free flowing attacking football designed to score goals and win football games.

The funny part is that Ranieri and LVG are both very "tactical", they both give a lot of instructions and want to see a disciplined game from their teams.

results are the only thing keeping his job. I really hope we beat wolfsburg.

0-0 at home v wham in the prem isn't a result nor is 0-0 v PSV in CL. those are or should be wins. 1-1 away to LC looks good compared to those two games.

Except one still manages to attack fluently while the other is disciplined defensively only. Can't even say they were that today. They attacked more, but had absolutely no composure, which might be expected from a Martial or Lingard, but Fellaini is experienced as is Mata.

Klopp wouldn't of needed over £200 million to have us playing nice football, put it that way.

You are right, but my point is that Leicester are playing like they are because they respect Ranieri's instructions. It was the same with Monaco, like a true italian he is all about tactical drills and collective organization in defense and in attack.
