Thing is, that's not going to change no matter the personnel, team selections, or tactics. Judging by the almost total lack of improvement since day 1 of his tenure I don't expect any improvement anytime soon.

Yup. First day and today lost to Swansea. Nothing happened in between. You deserve some kind of award for coming up with shut like this

Is he trying to indirectly pass blame onto Woody by saying targets were identified months ago, i.e. has been up to someone else to bring them in?

I think LVG is more setup for European football, I think we will do quite well in Europe and stand a chance of winning the champions league, but in the premier league we will struggle with his style of play.

I think VG deserves to see out his contract, and if after those 3 years there is no huge degree in improvement maybe a change is needed. I still don't think we have recovered from the 2009-12 regression, and fergies retirement and the Moyes era. It's still hitting the club since that time

Me too..He is not a premier league winning manager imo..he just doesnt seem to get this league and adapt to it..Id love to pull a Chelsea in Europe..win an undeserved European cup..But Blind vs Messi..could be a long night for us..

Why? What has he done to "deserve" it? He spent 150m last season and had us stumble to 4th. He hasn't earned it, at least not yet.

We just can't find the player to take us up a level attacking wise, it is frustrating that we will probably have to wait until next summer to sort that problem out.

Before this match our average goals per game was 0.67

Last season was 1.63. Lower than moyes and considerably lower than fergies years

Glad to see we're improving

We could buy lewandowski and we would still struggle because we aren't creative

Let's not use the money spent against him, he had a massive job on his hands to rebuild the team.

If we bought Messi we'd probably instruct him to cut down the dribbling because dribbling leads to possession losses...

And therein lies the problem. The lack of creativity within the squad is worrying, although it has improved over the last few games it's far to inconsistent to be considered acceptable.

What the feck is he on about?! 85 mins of dominance? Enjoyed our football today? He can't be serious, surely?

How can you create chances when rooney is static inside the box ? The striker needs to make runs and drag the defenders, others need to make runs form deep.

Lewandoski would at least bully CB's and make runs, Rooney wants the ball to his feet and even then he has been absolute pants in holding up play and setting up others. The first goal came when he was disposed in the final third because we were going for the second to tie up the game.

This whole rooney isn't getting chances things is bull, he just pants atm and it's affecting how we play in the final third.

Good ol' LVG:

"What? You don't think we played well?!? I'll set fire to my trousers to prove that we did...Ow..."

As should the attacking midfielders. We simply can't blame Rooney for our lack of goals.

He hasn't done that properly either. Two season and our only striking option is Wayne fecking Rooney. And our wingers are Ashley Young and a 21 year old from the Dutch league.

Our attack is shambles. I don't think there is anything wrong with using it against him.

A team can dominate possession and look threatening. United do not look especially threatening. I don't think the passing was quicker than previous games this season. It's a major problem when your main striker and current goalkeeper both look, to be brutally honest, not very good.

We would be more creative if our striker would move more.

People don't seem to understand LVG. His tactics is good, but his handling of our striker and winger isn't, and it makes a big problem to his tactics. If anything, Herrera is creative and Mata isn't bad either and if there is a hole, he will find it. So it should be clear that the problem is the striker, who doesn't have enough movement as none of our creative players can find a way to pass enough good balls to him. It can't be all of them.

Against Tottenham and Newcastle we had 2-3 great counterattacking chances end every time Rooney, Depay and Mata have managed to make absolutely nothing from it. That has nothing to do with the tactics, but with them (this is where I blame him - we need a better and faster striker, plus one of the wingers have to be more direct and fast).

If the opponent is any good, his teams will not create to many half chances, but will still have 4-5 big chances at least, because he doesn't want the players to risk to much. So if you score half your big chances you will win, because on the other end the team is compact, controls the game and will not concede if the players are the ones who can do the job and we have these players.

If we had kept the shape today we wouldn't have conceded the first goal, but OK it does happen.

One season.
I agree that we need a forward but he can't change the entire squad straight away, if he did we would end up a shambles.

Did you see the chances he missed today ? Like did you see him today ? He has absolutely nothing up front, no movement at all at times.

Compare how threatening and mobile gomis was in comparison, he was also good at holding up play, bringing in ayew to cause problems and was in general giving blind problems today.

Rooney cannot be the focal point of any successful attack force this season on his current form, if he was just missing chance then fair enough but he's overall form including touch/link-up play/passing/hold up play have all been alarming poor. Today was no different.

We tired a manager that hadn't won anything, it didn't work, we are trying a manager that won quite a lot, it isn't working...where now....

Klopp, Ancelotti and Guardiola. Dare I say even Mourinho might be available soon.

Good coaches will always be available to us. But at the moment we need to see if the current one can get things right. Looking doubtful for me.

I think we have the creativity, just he will not let it thrive.

Then don't sell what you already have, mate.

We shouldn't have sold Nani and Van Persie then. And should have done our utmost to make di Maria feel more wanted.

We are better than our depth of despair under Moyes, but nowhere near good enough to be true title challengers and I reckon we will be in a fight again for the 4th spot.

We don't know what's going on behind closed doors, but I agree, if we had no direct replacement for RVP we should never have sold him.

Annoyed right now so my view have probably changed by tomorrow but the football we play atm is so dire I can't wrap my head around it. Yes Rooney looks bad but we should be able to serve up better week after week than this.

As long as he keeps us in Europe he's safe, and probably should be.

Given our performance so far this year that could be a stretch if we don't get our heads out of our holes mind.

As I said, we can't simply blame him, other players should have scored today as well or at least made the keeper work.
By the way I'd drop Rooney in a second but I think the problem runs deeper than that

Why cant he just accept that United have always played freeflowing attacking football? It would make his life so much easier. Do we have the players to do it? Yes. Do the fans love it? Yes. For a club with a history like ours, why cant he understand that all our squads have been built around this ideology.
