If dropping the worst performing player in your squad, is likely to cause a squad revolt, then we need to get rid of ALL of them.

It's bollocks. I have no doubts (I'm no psychic) that plenty of our players are sick to back teeth of seeing Rooney out there.

I don't think the abuse towards Moyes was this intense, the players were getting more stick. And many more people seemed to be defending him, at least till January.
The last 2 pages are basically people calling LvG a cnut.

It's just incredible and sad IMO, the club are trying to follow the Real Madrid model in the transfer market and our fans are also starting to become like Madrid fans.

I have backed LVG and was a fan but he is slowly grinding the life out of me. The last two games are as bad as I have seen since Moyes, both games totally there for the taking but we play without any courage whatsoever and settle and appear be happy with a feckin draw.

I am not saying sack him as we are somehow in with a shout of the title and I don't want us to become one of those clubs with a turnstile on the dug out!

The way the players are passing sideways, backwards, sideways... I cannot make my mind up as to whether it is lack of movement in front of them, instructions or fear that forces the sideways, backwards shyte. I haven't been since City but going next week so I suppose I'll be able to see what is forcing this backwards, sideways anything but forward and with risk mentality and be able to settle this mental debate I am having with myself.

Jesus why does football make me feel this way!!

He has taught me one thing this season. Being an exceptional captain adds no value to the squad or the results, you are better off having an exceptional player and throw the stupid armband down a well. The discussion over who should be captain, the supposed importance of it, the status, the privileges, all just complete nonsense that should be abolished.

I have to disagree with this. The problem ATM for United is that the wrong man is captain. Rooney fit the role okay when we didn't have a clear figure to become captain but it's clear by now that Schweinsteiger is the leader on the pitch both in his attitude and his play. That change IMO needs to be made.

Okay..

1. How is Rooney an exceptional captain? For me, he's the worst captain I've ever seen for United since I've been alive.
2. Roy Keane is on the line here and says to 'stick it up yer bollocks!'

Im still 100% behind Van Gaal. I think he has done a great job so far, am totally satisfied with the strategy and believe he will deliver both trophies and eventually very attractive football within 12 months. Im more than happy to give him that time.

It's frankly abit embarrassing to read the criticism he is getting from some fans. Of course we have a right to wish for better football, but its first and foremost a results business and LVG is delivering above expectations right now.

If we weren't in with a shout of winning the league this year I'd be happy if he left. I've never been so bored watching us, it's more of an endurance test than a rollercoaster ride nowadays.

If performances don't improve (and results don't go his way either) LvG could be looking at the sack come the end of the season.

He has to go in the Summer.

I can't take another season of this dull shite. We should drive up to where ever Guardiola or Ancelotti live with a wheelbarrow full of cash and plead with them to take the job.

that's sad

It really is, they don't even realize that they are the reason why football has become cynical and a business, because some fans think that everything can be done as long as it is successful.

We are flattering to deceive at the moment. The decent league position is papering over the cracks that we are toothless in attack, dreadfully boring in every other department and most of our players seem to have regressed this year seemingly to adapt to LvG's position obsessed style that is more centered on not losing than winning. We are extremely fortunate City, Arsenal, or Chelsea are not having great years or else we may not be in the top 4 right now.

I've been fully behind him until Wednesday. I don't mind possession football p, I actually want us to play possession football but his way of playing it does not work for me.
He waits for chances. That's the main difference between him and Guardiola. That's why LVG keeps the ball in such deep areas. We are very easy to defend against. Better attacking players will help but we will always play below our capabilities under this guy.
Has to go in the summer.
100% this. I've been wobbeling back and forth for a few weeks but he's not right for this club. As you say possession football is fine but you have to take risks and create chances.
Think we'd do well to change manager in the summer.

How? We have spent 260 million pounds under his tenure. How is he performing above expectations with that in mind?

I understand why you would support him if you buy into his "process" line and believe that we're slowly moving in the right direction. But we're not. We're defensively solid, yes, but in terms of attacking football, this is it. It's not a case of grinding out results until we hit form - this is how he wants us to play! That, in itself, is an argument for sacking him.

All his talk about how we just need to take our chances in games. Well, yeah, but if you only create one or two chances per game, then you're running a big risk because you're pretty damn dependant on your players taking those chances.

A stat was posted in this threat saying we're 18th(!!!) in the league in terms of number of chances created. How, then, you can say that he's doing a "great job" is simply beyond me.

The problem is not possession football, the problem is how she expects his team to create chances.
He wants his team to switch play repeatedly from side to side in order to pull teams apart and hit them with a pass down the channels.
In theory, it's not a bad tactic but it seems to be the only tactic LVG will accept in creating chances.
His problem is our opponents are no mugs. They stay compact and close down the channels and because LVG will not accept our players doing any other thing, they switch play endlessly and at a criminal pace.
Most of the little chances we create don't come when we have the ball, they come when team are trying to pass out from the back and give a shite pass.
Possession football isn't the problem but our one paces one dimensional way of attacking teams is.

@K2K @Minimalist @marlowe78 - Van Gaal has called Rooney his greatest ever captain, even better than Danny Blind. That was the quote, I believe. Apparently he has leadership qualities that Van Gaal values.

I am frustrated and struggling to see how his leadership helps our play or our results - I see a lack of passion and no drive toward victory. Whatever leadership Rooney brings to the role as a "great captain" has little value compared to what a better player would offer in his place. The emphasis on the captaincy seems silly to me as well, just make the most senior player or the keeper the captain on the day and be done with the drama.

I won't be renewing if we continue playing like this, the entertainment is not worth the money. Not that it matters as the seat will easily be resold but I bet a lot of people are feeling the same way.

We sack him and bring in Ancelloti and I think we'll steal the league title.

He needs to go. I'm sick of it, I'd much rather watch an exciting, fast, direct United like old then watch this dull shite, even if it means we don't win as much. His tactics don't suit our players, which is funny considering how much money he has spent on transfers.

He said when he was appointed that we will play good football after 3 months, it's been 18 months now and we've seen feck all except some more stability in defense.

Pass, pass, pass then turn and pass some more.

That bit about replacing Rooney because of injury when otherwise he might have subbed Martial broke me.

I would have thought Van Gaal would be the last to shy from a big decision. But if he can't see Rooney is done (or at least merits dropping) or can't do anything about it, if he thinks there's a better chance or Rooney creating something rather than Martial, he has no business managing Manchester United any more.

For all the talk of Pep, I agree with this.

Ancelotti has that strange trait of picking the best players and playing them in their best positions. He doesn't over complicate things and if Van Gaal was to go, I reckon he'd be a breath of fresh air.

He made good on that promise. It took slightly longer than three months, but we eventually started playing much better in the second half/towards the end of last season.

It would have been naive to think that signing 5 new players wouldn't reset the whole process. I'm still hoping for a similar development in the current campaign.

Agreed and I'm talking about this season. Its the perfect season for an underdog to steal it with the inconsistencies.

We've got a squad of good players (good not great) but its just lacking a bit of common sense from the top in getting the best out of them. Ancelotti is pretty much the perfect man for that.

He shouldn't have signed five new players if it made us play worse.

Then next season he may want another striker, and we know he wants a winger, midfield may need an addition with Carrick and Bastian not being spring chickens, then we may also be looking again at defensive positions. And let's hope we don't need a goalkeeper.

So we start all over again?

Seriously, football isn't THAT complicated.

His definition of what is good/bad is quite obviously different to most people. It's why hes never really got Smalling or Herrera. His judgement is seriously poor, and everything just seems to be based on following a strict methodology despite what is happening on the pitch.

Other than the Spurs-Pool-City trilogy, which was followed by three games of toothless possession where we didnt score, when did this occur?

Can't wait for him to be gone. Absolute fraud of a manager.

A complete and utter coward.

7 titles in significant European leagues. A Champions League, a Uefa cup, an Intercontinental cup and a Super cup.
3rd place World Cup finish with a very limited Dutch side. A world coach of the year award.

A complete and utter coward.

Said a man behind a keyboard on the internet.

I'm starting to question whether he's the right man at the right time in his life for this job. But some of these comments are fecking ridiculous.

no we did not get better. well we did because we started so shit but we closed the season with a fecking whimper, and he'll need another 5 players this yr to balance out the unbalanced side he's built to date. it's ok we'll pull an arse and finish with our trophy for 4th place. get in!
