Some interesting quotes there and well worth a read.

In the aftermath of Mourinho's exit, United sources stated clearly the appointment of a technical director was on the agenda, in addition to a new manager.

At present, nothing has changed from Van Gaal's time, with Woodward in overall charge and Matt Judge, who has a masters degree in economics and finance and 13 years' experience in investment banking, negotiating fees and contracts. United are adamant their priority is the football side and success on pitch is the objective for everyone at the club. Van Gaal does not agree.

"At the moment there is a structure with a scouting division and above that is someone at Woodward's right hand. The structure is not so bad but the right hand has to be a technical director with a football view, not somebody with a banker's role," Van Gaal says.

"Unfortunately, we are talking about a commercial club, not a football club. I spoke to Ferguson about this and in his last years, he also had problems with it."

As I've said before, I've got some sympathy for Van Gaal, and I definitely believe he was a better manager than David Moyes, but as with Mourinho, Van Gaal's ego prevented him from succeeding at the club.

I still feel that Van Gaal would've done a lot better with better players. The man did not make his legacy playing tumescent football after all.

As much as I wanted him gone, his sacking has left a sour taste in my mouth. Terribly dealt with, without any respect for him.

I really liked LVG as a man, much more than Moyes/Jose. But unfortunately his football was just as bad.

Agreed. He didn't really deserve more time, but he did win the FA Cup and got us back in the Champions League after the Moyes disaster. Deserved a lot more respect.

Woodward could have told him months in advance that he was going. To find out that he was getting sacked on the same day after the FA cup win was very poor from us.

While I liked him more than Jose and he certainly gave me one of the funniest moments when we played Arsenal, what exactly is his legacy?
Great Ajax side with the promotion of great young players, enjoyable moments with Barca and BM. However you’d have take the poor run those teams had.

He may not have made his legacy playing tumescent football but he certainly ended it that way.

Enjoy your retirement in Portugal Louis

Maybe he's right that the Glazers are turning United into a machine for making money and football is of secondary importance.

Very true and shows how far we Have fallen in recent years

The leak was all Mourinho & Mendes' doing. The club should've told him earlier admittedly, but what happened after the final was down to two toxic cnuts.

Hopefully we're now done with the dinosaur era.

It’s always been that way, but don’t forget the success we’ve also had under them

He comes over as a very smart guy, who is a little bitter about his time at United.
And for those who think he was treated unfairly, that football in the last several months of his tenure was absolutely dire. I had hard time staying awake!

I actually didn't know that. Still, I'm fairly certain we've agreed a deal with Jose months before and we should have done the right thing and told LvG about it - he wanted to stay for 2 years anyway. Handled poorly all-around.

Agreed. But some fans still believe Moyes was better than Van Gaal!

Can people still argue that our club cares more about football then business?

"The coach after me [Mourinho] changed to park-the-bus tactics and played on the counter. Now there is another coach who parks the bus and plays on the counter. The main difference between Mourinho and Solskjaer is that Solskjaer is winning.

I'd rather have someone who 'parks the bus' and wins than the tumescent paint drying zombieball that you were stinking up the place with mate.

For me too, we'd literally just got in the car to head home from Wembley and they were announcing he was sacked. Absolutely appalling the way he was sacked and made me lose more confidence in the way the club was being ran.

If Fergie also had problems with it like he said, then why was he still able to win the league? Just more excuses, it sounds like.

I think we need a DOF as much as the next man, but it wasn’t big bad Manchester United who made you sell off Fergie’s title winning team and replace them with Matteo fecking Darmian.

Like him as a bloke, but his football can feck off.

Because Sir Alex is legend and a one off. I doubt he has a reason to lie, it's pretty much an open secret that we run a scatter-gun approach in regards to our transfer policy and if anything Sir Alex was holding it all together.

Van Gaal was lucky he wasn’t sacked months sooner.

It would have been interesting to see how he would of done if we had a DOF, LVG had the right ideas but his recruitment let him down.

Surely nobody argued that with a straight face?
There's been a few in certain threads here.

It's been clear as day since Moyes. Waiting until top 4 was gone and then sacking him.

Maybe Van Gaal should have been appointed technical director instead of manager.

I always thought he was just a few tweaks away from creating a winning team. Didn't get the chance unfortunately.

Hard to respect incompetence. We just had to get rid of him.
He deserved more respect than Jose and got significantly less. Sacking any manager the same day they win an FA Cup is truly pathetic. Nothing to be gained from it, yet more respect lost as a club.

Yes his philosophy was great, but the players he bought and his inability to get the team converting possession into goals showed that he was past it as a manager/coach.

Do we give the impression that we are some agony aunt or retirement home?

Looks a lot better now after Jose but in the same way George W Bush looks a better President now after Trump

So he's confirming that Fergie had issues with the commercial side.

Does that put paid to the, 'no value in the market' years?

True. I don’t get why that absolves him from blame entirely though, it’s scatter gun because LVG allowed it to be so. Sir Alex had the final say on transfers and so did Van Gaal as far as we know. The buck stops with him.
