Nani is getting better and definitely more influential, today's goal and assist are proof of this. However, he still has a long way to go to really become consistent. What often frustrates me is his choice of a final pass and frequently the delivery of it. It will come with experience, I am sure.
The best of the best, like Ronaldo, still frustrates regularly in that respect. Nani reacted everytime our defenders spazzed out today with a goal and an assist, he earned us that point. If he does that regularly, alot will be forgiven, just like Ronaldo was forgiven selfishness and ridiculous shots in his '2 goals a game' form a few years back (now that he's not scoring for Madrid though, these weaknesses come to the forefront and are widely criticized... when he was exactly like that last season + goals).

Doesnt matter what a past player produced, Nani isnt Ronaldo. These comparisons are getting a tad outdated.
And you're being very impatient with the lad. We all know he had a slow start to his United career, but hes been improving a lot recently. If thats not enough for you then youre just being unreasonable.
Very good performance today, our best player by a margin today. However, I wish he could stop taking corners permanently or try to hit a proper one, his set piece deliveries are really pathetic.

Well Giggs is even worse with his crossing from set pieces as well as open play but since it's Giggs no one will say anything.
Thought Nani was great today. Sure he was frustrating at times but one great goal, one assist and our only attacking bright spot. Can't ask for much more

Besides I've always been his defender in Newbies when people were getting on his back and what I've said is nothing unreasonable.
Hes a fabulous player now, that goal today was Messi esk, had Messi done that in a Barca shirt tonight youd have Sky wanking all over the studio about another wonder Messi solo goal, it was fantastic, single handedly got us back into the game, both his goals this season, today and against West ham were wonderful individual goals, fabulous talent, and yet again he created the other goal today, another assist for the leading goal creator in the league now, honestly hes become as indispensable to this team as anyone right now, hes the sole cause of 90% of our goals at the moment.
His crossing and set piece play is still very frustrating, but you cant really have a go at him for it when without him wed be up shit creek this season frankly and no one in our team knows how to take a set piece anyway not just him.
I just hope we dont have Madrid sniffing around him in the next 12-18 months.

He played well and took his goal well, his crossing can be frustrating but it's not a drama, he has many assists from it. He's still one of the best at it in the league.

Dont know why so many people are complaining about his success rate in crossing. How many shots would Andy Cole need to finally score in a match?
I don't get the dissing of his crossing today to be honest. He was clearly told for his corners to stick to the near post. Bolton are a taller team than us with Knight and Ricketts in the box, so we'd never win those battles. We were relying on a cheeky flick on from O Shea or something lucky to get something from them. No point blaming Nani.
His other crossing was hardly poor either, he hit quite a few lovely balls into the box. There was just nobody to get on the end of them for the most part.

Fair point, as I said Nani has become a very influential player for us and with experience, his decision-making and delivery will become even better.
The point stands though. Cole is just an obvious example. No forward has a perfect strikerate, same as no winger has a perfect success rate with every cross
Another good game today. Despite some inconsistency he still had the most attacking influence from our side. He knows we are putting a lot of responsibilty on his shoulders to be a matchwinner for us. In the past the pressure may have got to him, but not now. I hope this form continues because he's really quite brilliant when he plays like this.
At the back of my mind is the fear that our other wingers are some distance away from his productivity at the moment. We dare not lose him to injury.

We have 3 players that actually dominate our play and attacks atm, and those are Nani, Scholes and Berbatov.

I think we seeing the benefits out of the player, he still has some work to do. He should take on more players, deliver quality ball more often and our set pieces can be more creative but fair play to him for stepping up his game for the team.
The lad was excellent today. feck all of y'all who wanted a 100 out of 100 performance. He is human. Not a computer simulation.
I think Nani is unfairly put under the microscope in every game, most flair players like him have wasteful moments but if it's balanced out with healthy contributions then that is the trade off you make to have a player capable of a bit of magic in your team.

Agree, Chief. It's strange because he puts on performances a lot better than others on the team, yet it's Nani who still gets criticised.

His development is somewhere close to where Ronny was in 06 and early 07. The similarities are intriguing to say the least.

Again, totally agree. I'm slowly becoming a big fan of Nani. It's so great to have an attacker so comfortable on the ball and who's always willing to go at defenders, and has so much in the bag to hurt you with.
Very satisfied with Nani's productivity right now. Today was far from his best performance (he was our biggest threat, mind) and he's still ended up scoring a quality goal and grabbing another assist. He got 14 assists last season and he's already well on his way to bettering that tally. Most of those came after Christmas as well, so his contribution throughout the calender year of 2010 has been pretty amazing, really, especially considering a lot of fans thought he was on his way out during the January transfer window.
I know Berbatov has taken a huge amount of credit this season, and rightly so, but I think Nani's actually been our best player so far. Hope to God he stays fit, because I think we're pretty much fecked if he doesn't. Didn't think I'd be saying that 12 months ago...

Totally agree, today he set up both our goals and was a threat throughtout. Sure some of his crosses were poor you cant expect brilliant deliveries 100% of the time. I suppose because he has become one of our best attacking players people expect more from him...
He's still a work in progress imo. Improving by the year, but still much more left to learn. He we see the type of improvement throughout the course of this season as we did last, then we've got a potential world beater on our hands.

Spot on. Same as I said earlier in the thread. Happy with his performance so far and expect even better from him with time.
His productivity is becoming ridiculous. Even if his crossing and decision making isn't the best throughout a game he still produces moments of magic and creates opportunities for our strikers. Brilliant goal, one decent cross to Owen and lots of promising moves once again... if he manages to keep his form Fergie has turned him into a monster of a player. It certainly helps that he can now regularly play on the right.
